Abs light came on continually for the last 6000 miles. Brought the vehicle to Ford in plainville, CT and they told me there was no recall and the cost was to include a new computer for an unreasonable dollar amount. Still not corrected and I understand that the abs system is not working. Have checked other owners and they have the same problem. Also have a cruise control system that is not working. Have been told that I need a new harness for a cost of over #300. Still not activated.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. While driving approximately 50 mph, the cruise control failed to disengage when the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the contact had to turn off the cruise control manually. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

Dash abs, brake light on, speedometer, rpm gage jumps back and forward, cruise controll accelerates, passenger window and rear side window doesn''t work.
For some reason my instrument panel custard needles started,to bounce up and down for no reason and sometimes its ok. Than you be driving and everything its ok, but than there goes the needels bouncing up and down agian and than it stops or if I stop at store or gas station and start the ignition agian it does it again. Problem 2, before the fires on the Ford viechels on the cruise control switch mine had already burned out as I was at the store parking loti picked up my hood and there was the smoke and short wires below the brake fluid holder I fixed it,on my own than see all the problems on the daily news. This happen when I only hadabout 85000 miles. Problem 3, for some reason I'm having with my abs,the light keeps coming on and my brakes don't work right, but when the abs light is off my brakes work fine, I tell you Ford can really make sorry vans like the Windstar lx model.

Abs light along with brake indicator light is on. Multiple defect codes for abs module shown on scanner. Brakes not fully stopping vehicle when depressed. Bought vehicle in may 2014. Cruise control acting funny.
Follow-up on odi # 10593430. On may 26, 2014, after Ford dealership in fort walton beach, FL kept my vehicle for a week to fix the cruise control and seat latches recall, I was finally able to pick up my van. They also checked the cause of odometer and speedometer to stopped working, abs and brake light remained on, sliding doors not working, and o/d light flashing; I was told the cause is a defective abs module. They charged me $114. 27 to diagnosed the problem and quoted me $1,265. 00 to replace the abs module. I showed to Ford service advisor, andrew tompitch, a print-out from NHTSA website stating that part of fixing or remedy to the cruise control recall was to "inspect the abs control module connector and repair as necessary. " "repairs will be completed free of charge. " yet Ford charged me for this service and told me that the problems were not the same since my vehicle's scds supposedly did not leak. How could I verified what he told me was true when he wouldn't let me enter the work bay to watch what the technician was doing to my vehicle? andrew admitted that the abs module is defective and that they had replaced several modules due to the same problems as my van. But andrew said it's not part of the recall and wouldn't replace it free of charge. If Ford used defective parts such as the abs module, then Ford should be responsible to replacing the defective abs module and recall it before a life is lost!.

No one was injured. The dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the cruise control deactivation switch was replaced due to a recall in 2011. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximated failure mileage was 200,000. An.
Abs, traction control, cruise control and speedometer either are intermittent or not working at all. This causes issues with braking, vehicle control, driver attentiveness and other safety related issues.

I didn't have a crash I noticed that my abs brake and tire pressure light was staying on and a short time after I started hearing a loud rumbling noise in the front end every time I slow an it's impossible to make sudden stops and at times my speedometer starts flickering back and forth as well as my cruise control is currently inoperable. I have limited driving this vehicle in which I purchased due to feeling it is not in a safe manner for my children to be in. I have had several shops as well as individuals that told me these areas are common to go out on this specific vehicle and that there is possible recall. I just want to be able to drive my van with out worrying if I'm going to be able to come to a stop when needed as well as not knowing if I could possible break down or something break in the front end while I am driving at somewhat high speeds. Thank you and hope to hear from someone soon in regards to this situation!.
Used the vehicle to go on a trip about 200 miles from home, the cruise control was working but the brake light stayed on. When I got back home and parked the vehicle for a couple of days, when I went to go back out in the van on another short trip and got on the interstate the cruise wouldn't work again. The brake light stays on all the time when before the cruise stopped working it was only intermittent. Now the light is on all the time and the cruise isn't working at all. I can't use the van on trips o when I go a few miles away from home because the cruise don't work. I have a bad back and joints and rely on that cruise to help me get from point a to point b. Thanks, paula.
My 19yr old daughter was traveling to new jersey from indiana on rt. 70. When using the cruise control attempted to exit for a rest stop when she applied the break the abs light came on and the cruise control did not disengage. She had committed to the exit ramp thank god she was able to move back off the ramp just in time to miss the over pass barrier. She had to ride the shoulder shutting down the ignition once she did that she was able tob resue. She did not use the cruise control again and but then the engine light came on a cold start. I check the code and dtcs found wade bank one and two lean found a bad pcv valve and replaced it. But when reading the codes found 9 additional codes c1185 c1198 c1194 c1254 c1256 c1250 c1242 c1214 and c1210. I then called the Ford dealership and checked for recalls. Finding 3 I followed up having two being serious and having to do with speed control rear subframe and rear support. When asking the service advisor what these codes meant he had no clue he said and without a costly scanner charge the tech had no idea. So as always I hit the inter net andeasily found numerous complaints . . . I was a service advisor for Honda for 5yrs and a tech for 10 prior. I never put my customers life on the line wth? is Ford teaching these men? I will have to inspect and repair this vehicle myself being disabled this will not come easy. I don't trust them at all anymore. My family's life is to important to have a money hungry company kill them. And once repairs are finished I will sell it and buy a Honda. Yes Honda is not perfect but I have never seen the company ever mislead customers intentionally as this and when they messup they cover their customers and fix it right. Unreal.
My abs light & traction light are now on. Also, needles jump on dash {odometer, speedometer, fuel & heat level} and cruise control does not work any longer {this has been happening since receiving my van back from the Ford garage after 7 months from the axle recall repair over a year ago}. Tried to bleed my brakes after replacing pads and caliper but cannot bleed front left or rear right. Was told by a Ford mechanic that this may be a problem in the abs module. As pertaining to a Ford recall in October, 2009, all of the above problems may be connected to this recall. My van was inspected and nothing was done to it because, at the time, because it was deemed safe. I have since replaced the electrical tape on the wiring harness that they were suppose to be inspecting because it was falling off due to brake fluid on it (reason for said recall}. I plan on calling the garage in the am to have them reinspect my van for this recall because I cannot afford to replace any more parts in it. I have put a lot into it just since getting it back after the axle recall because it deteriorated sitting in their driveway for the winter due to salt. I hope nobody else is going through this. I love my van and have owned it for 11 years but it is getting too expensive for a one-income-household to repair due to bad parts or service. Please have Ford work to fix these problems so I can afford to keep my van. Thank you!.
Abs light start flashing, lose cruise control, then over drive started flashing on the van, cut off o/d light still flashing.
Abs light comes on and off while driving, cruise control does not work, speedometer and rmp guage goes crazy and stops working, leaking break fliud but can't seem to locate problem, interior lights flicker on and off, door locks will start going up and down while driving, rear passenger door does not close all the way and will sometime pop out but not completely open while driving, makes noise when turing left I had the rack and pinion changed but that did not solve the problem the noise just got worse.
Abs and brake warning lights light up randomly and cruise control stops working. Main brakes still function. I see lots of similar complaints online. Had brakes repaired twice and the mechanic always mentions a loss of brake fluid. Even after that, the problem persists. I do not believe my VIN was ever part of the scds switch recall but I am suspicious this may be somehow related (?). If so, there could be risk of a fire and I do not feel safe. I'd like some answers before I spend any more money at local mechanic fixing this car. Calling Ford dealer tomorrow to see if there is anything they can do.
Purchased this vehicle in January 2012 and have had nothing but problems with it. According to Ford all recalls have been done on this vehicle but here is a list of the issues with the van: abs light comes on, check engine light comes on, van has no cruise control at all, and last Friday I could not put the van in gear. After the Ford dealership "repaired" the solenoid for the van now all of a sudden there is currently no rear brake lights. This van is less than safe to be on the road and have seen that some of the recalls would have solved the speed control issue but the Ford factory will not answer any of my questions. Take a look online and you will see thousands of people with the same issues we are having and it was brought to the attention of Ford that we are having the same issues as thousands of other people so this is beyond a problematic vehicle. The vehicle is currently sitting at the local Ford dealer while they try and figure out what is wrong with the light system. This vehicle has been in the shop twice since we have owned it and this is costing us hundreds (so far) to fix issues that everyone with this vehicle is having. The latest issues have led to us being without a vehicle for almost a week and we have a disabled child in the home and this is unacceptable.
On Sunday 5/20/12, upon starting our 2000 Ford Windstar van, I noticed that the speedometer was not working and the abs (yellow) light was persistently on. (however the red brake light that had been shining on the dashboard persistently for many, many months, even after recall servicing, was now off. ) driving for a few minutes, we realized that the air conditioning was not putting out cool air, only warm, and that the odometer was displaying only dashes. I should also mention, now that I have read up on these problems, which had seemed unrelated, but are apparently all traceable to a defective/leaking sdcd, that the cruise control on this vehicle has not worked for many months.
My van was in great shape and great condition. I was driving to work on may 6th 2012 about 45-50 mph entered the I-215 collector, started to smell a burned rubber smell, I looked at the temp gauge and it was normal, the van started to sputter like running out of gas, the van was not out of gas almost full, the service engine light started to flash on and off, I pulled over to the shoulder and came to a complete stop, looked at the temp gauge again and it still was normal, the burned rubber smell got worse and I noticed then a black smoke coming from under the hood. I got out of the van and stood at the front of the van to call aaa and the engine burst into flames under the hood. There was not indicator what so ever that the vehicle was overheating. This all occurred in about 5-10 minutes. The police came and could not put the fire out with extinguisher. The fire department had to put the fire out. It burned up my entire vehicle with all the contents inside. The fireman stated that even the front tires were burned up and melted. I did get pictures of what happened. I only had liability insurance so I thought I was just out of luck. A security specialist from work said that it sounded like the fire could have started due to a factory safety defect and told me to do some research. I did find that there was a recall on the speed switch or control on 1996 Ford Windstars. I always use my cruise control. I have filed a claim with my insurance based on a burn under the assumption that the fire occurred due to the speed control recall. Please let me know what I can do. I never received any notification of the recall or I would have taken it in to be fixed before this happened.

Abs light comes on intermittently, even in summer with no adverse driving conditions. It stays on for varying lengths of time, then disappears for some time, then out of the blue comes back on. Braking a little bit harder than usual does seem to trigger it. Also, recently, the cruise control just suddenly stopped working. It worked fine one day, then all of a sudden, a day or two later, I hit on, but it refused to set. I tried again on another day and it still wouldn't set.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that when driving with the cruise control activated, the vehicle would independently accelerate without warning. The failure persisted until it had become a permanent occurrence and would present itself even when the cruise control function was not being used. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacture informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in any active recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 151,000.
While driving my Windstar van the abs light came on and stayed on. At random times the brake light comes on and off. When both brake lights are on the cruise control doesn't work.
1999 Ford Windstar: the brake pressure differential deactivation switch (scds) (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) has leaked an excessive amount of brake fluid. The fluid accumulates on the power connectors for the abs brake system which are powered by fuses 101 and 102 and are both 40 amp. The cruise control has failed and we are fearful that this leaking brake fluid will cause a fire.
The vehicle was checked by Ford dealer in alamogordo, nm 88310 due to a recall for "rear axle cracks, subframe corrosion" and "brake, abs brake, cruise control, and speedometer/odometer electrical problems" on Aug/16/2011. They sad there is no problem / or they fixed it. After that date, the brake/abs brake illuminated a couple of times, but went of after the engine was turned off/on again. Also the cruisecontrol stopped working since and isn't currently not working. I found that the "brake pressure differential deactivation switch (scds) (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) is leaking!!!. It is completely wet and the fluid is dropping down slowly. Pictures are available, taken today 04/04/2012.
Abs and trac failure lights come on, windows won't go up and down, cruise control cuts in and out and the check engine light flashes when cruise is on. Ford refuses to deal with this situation and stand by their product.
The abs and brake warning lights go on randomly for no reason, also cruise control will stop working.
Abs light illuminated a few months after a recall was complied by Ford. The recall consist of replacing a brake pressure switch, cruise control part, and abs module.
The abs and brake light began coming on intermittantly a couple of months ago. It seems that the abs ecu module is the problem as multiple abs codes were read. Now, two months later my cruise control no longer works. If you do the research online as well as in your complaint section for 2001 winstar it is an all too common problem. It seems to be a problem that was not addressed properly on an earlier recall by Ford (09s09) which included a scds wiring harness replacement only caused by brake fluid leaking onto wiring and causing a potential fire hazard. Many owners believe the fluid not only ran down the wiring continuing to run onto the abs connector causing parts to short out and fail and also onto the cruise control connector causing it to fail. I truly believe this is the reason all these abs modules are failing. . . It's amazing how many complaints with my same problem are on your website these are very expensive parts to replace (over $1000) plus labor. The absence of the abs system does cause braking problems and can cause the brakes to lock up and skid. . . This happened to me. . . Just missed having a wreck! the connector to the cruise is also being effected causing it to fail as well. I think Ford should be required to at least check these vehicle and replace these parts if they are found to be faulty before someone gets in an accident. They may have already.
Brake lights came on suddenly when driving, cruise control stop working, svc engine light sometimes flash, was repaired in the past by dealer on 12/09/03 ( recall 09s09) for the same reason, right now I don't have a code but seems to be the same problem.
As I was driving down the highway, cruise control set to 60mph. My cruise shut off, my abs and traction control lights came on. If you shut the vehicle off and let it cool down, it will stay off for a while, but usually comes on within a few moments of beginning to drive. And the brakes will work, but I will not have abs or traction control at all.
We had our Ford Windstar brakes done all the way around and my abs and emergency brake light and traction light come on and off. The cruise control works sometimes. Ford dealer in my town wont check it out without a diagnostic fee even thou a recall is said to be issued for the same complaints.
Abs and brake light comes on after 5 minutes, when the car is turned off it resets but the comes on again 5 minutes or so after driving. Cruise control not working.
My 2000 Ford Windstar van has frequent and intermittent problems with the abs light coming on and eventually going off; the cruise control not working sometimes even after it was repaired by the dealer; and the gauges in the instrument panel (including the speedometer) erratically malfunctioning. I have been told that these are common problems with Ford Windstar and may be subject to recalls. (even though the mileage is high, I replaced the transmission and engine with a brand new transmission and a brand new engine in 2006 and 2007, respectively. Only less than 50,000 miles on the vehicle since 2006. ).
The abs light has been on but no one can tell me why. It goes out when the vehicle is shut off but will light up again after about 10 minutes of driving. The cruise control would work sometimes and not others. If finally quit working all together. The fuses are all fine. The power windows and door locks work sometimes and not others or might work on one side of the vehicle but not the other.
Subframe broke 8/2010 and replaced. Rusted badly 12/2011 Ford dealer fixed , also checked real axel and fixed, recall #11s16 for the brake pressure differential switch leaking, brake light now coming on speedometer not registering odometer not registering ,abs light on, information center says trans error fuel error temp error and also cruise control surges cuts out and the braking distance change suddenly and without warning, the abs and ecm is wet with oil not covered properly. I think this is a ongoing problem with front the brake switch recall that still not fixed.
2001 Ford Windstar. I took it to the dealership to have some safety recalls done. A few days later I was driving along and smoke started boiling out from under the hood so I pulled over and by the time I got stopped and got the kids out safely it quit smoking. I raised the hood and could see some burned wiring under the brake master cylinder. We got back in and drove on then the transmission started shifting wrong and the brake pedal didn't feel right,it felt spongy. I took it to my mechanic who is ase master and Ford senior master certified. He replaced the trans range sensor and told me that the fire was caused by a defective cruise control deactivation switch leaking brake fluid. He replaced the switch and advised me to take it back to the dealer and have them do the recall which is what they were supposed to have done in the first place. He said that it also had a damaged abs module and wiring and that was part of the recall. I called them and they said they only did the rear axle recall that was on the letter I got from Ford. My mechanic said that they were required by law to complete all safety recalls while it was in their possesion. I am going to take it back but I'm afraid to drive it cause it hardly has any brakes. My mechanis said it was because all the brake fluid leaked out of the switch and got air in the lines.
