The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while at a traffic stop, he accidently engaged the cruise control resume mechanism. The vehicle suddenly increased acceleration and the engine was turned off. After restarting the vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated there was a recall related to the defect. The cruise control cable was disabled. The NHTSA campaign id number: 09v399000 (vehicle speed control) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000.

The throttle cable of my 1999 Ford Windstar frayed and caused the throttle to stick. The frayed outer part of the wire came off leaving sharp metal ends that allowed the cable to become stuck in the plastic sheath. Had to be pulled out by hand. No injury occurred but could have if on the high way.

The contact stated while driving home from the dealership the vehicle would not accelerate more than 40 mph. The vehicle accelerator pedal was pushed slightly, loud popping noise was heard, and the accelerator pedal then went to the floor. In turn the engine was at full acceleration. The brakes were utilized until the vehicle could be returned to the dealership. Upon inspection the throttle cable was frayed. It will be replaced at contact's expense. When trying to stop the vehicle on the highway pedal went to the floor, and the vehicle accelerated to 80 mph. Consumer had to press the brakes very hard to stop, causing damage to the brake pedal. Vehicle was towed, and throttle cable was discovered to be defective. Consumer contacted manufacturer, and was told the vehicle was too old and had too many miles. The throttle stuck, causing severely damaged to brakes. Consumer was advised that Ford did recall on 932 of its 1999 and 2000 model for this problem.
The stainless steel cables that ran down to the gas pedal broke. This was noticed after having the oil changed. After taking the vehicle to dealer, they stated that no defects were found. These cables were visible under the hood.
2003 Ford Windstar. When driving for approximately 15 minutes if he pulls up to a stop sign and puts the vehicle in neutral the vehicle will idle at 2,000 rpms. The vehicle has been inspected four times at the dealership. It is going back to the service department this week. The vehicle has been reprogrammed once, and the idle air control sensor has been replaced. Also, found there was a gasket bulging out, holding the cruise control cable. The last time the vehicle was at dealer, they replaced throttle control sensor on July 5, 2005.
Accelerator pedal will vibrate and will cause consumer's foot to "fall asleep" while driving on highway. Dealership changed accelerator cable to correct defect, no change occurred and vibration continued. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
While driving and upon attemtping to accelerate by depressing accelerator pedal, there was no response from vehicle. Also, without no prior warning vehicle suddenly accelerated without driver depressing accelerator pedal. Consumer has contacted dealer. Please provide any further details.

When stopping at light or making a turn vehicle will not accelerate. This happens intermittently. When turning vehicle off and restarting computer resets, and dealer can't identify problem.
