Abs light on intermittently. Instrument panel gauges erratic sometimes. Cruise control not functional at times.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the when he turned off the cruise control; several warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle started to lose power, but the contact was able to drive the vehicle to his residence. The contact was not able to restart the vehicle. Abs and brake lights coming on for no apparent reason. Had recall service on cruise control and the warning lights for the abs and brake lights have been coming on intermittently since that service was done. Talked with the local Ford service department and they are aware of this problem. Said that the previous recall on the cruise control didn't have anything to do with my warning lights for abs and brakes (but they have had more issues with this problem than the cruise control recall). If I remember the correctly, the cruise control recall - it had something to do with brake fluid contact and potential for fire, my cruise was shorted out and not working - must have been from brake fluid. I am thinking that this flaw has something to do with electrical components connected from the brake and abs system to the warning lights being shorted out in a similar way; it is just a guess, I am sure that the real mechanics know what is going on. . . . This is a safety issue and Ford needs to recall this design flaw; the warning device is not working as designed. I am sure that the $1,600 to fix the problem is an issue for Ford. Sometimes the lights turn on when I start the vehicle, sometimes I may be driving and they will turn on, at times the warning lights do not come on at all. The brakes are not effected from what I can tell and my fluid levels are normal. I hope that my brakes don't really experience a problem.

We have a 2002 Ford Windstar. We were at the dealership today for an oil change, new fuel filter and tires rotated. Our van was one that was recalled for the cruise control. We took it in when were notified and about 2 weeks after the recall our cruise control stopped working. Last fri. Our abs light came on and then it suddenly went out. We had to have a new axle put on our van in may,2010 due to the axle cracked. We thought maybe the light came on because of having new brakes put on when we installed the new axle. We had the Ford mechanic check this out and he told us that the abs is leaking, but this has nothing to do with the cruise control. If this is leaking and the cruise control won't work because of it leaking isn't related to the recall?.
I had the recall 09809 repair done on my 2001 Ford Windstar on 12-0-09 (inspected deactivation switch, leaking, replace switch and apply grease to connectors). Prior to that on 7-13-09 I reported to Ford dealer that the red brake and yellow anti-lock brake lights came on especially when the ac was on. They quick checked the module and filled brake level per the receipt for $29. 50. This past week I took it in again with the same problem and also an oil change and told them I thought the recall repair needed to be done again. They told me the lights coming on where not related to the recall and gave me code #s and stated that it needs abs control modules with a part estimate of $853. 88 and labor at $97. 50. They stated they contacted Ford as I had told them I was wanting an adjustment on the cost of checking on it again and they said Ford offered no assistance. When I had first taken the car in I attempted to show the man a consumer reports article about the recall in the January 2010 edition which mentions the faulty cruise control switch leaking causing potential for a fire. Anyway the second man when I went to pick up the van would also not look at the article and asked me where I heard of it "on the internet?". I feel like the problem stems from what was supposedly fixed in the recall and from what I have now seen on the internet it appears others are still having the same problems after recall repairs. I don't know if I should get the module fixed, have them undo/remove the cruise or abs system or what. I feel Ford is trying to get by not entirely fixing the problem due to financial reasons. Please let me know if an investigation can be opened if one has not been already and what my safest best course of action would be.
Cruise control problems my cruise control will not work after being replaced with the new switch from the recent recall on my vehicle. My vehicle is being fixed and I will have to pay for the parts and service. Has something to do with the scds and abs.
The speedometer, odometer & cruise control did not work & abs pump ran continuously. Abs & brake light stayed on. This only happened when the outside temp. Was around 80-85 deg. F & lights shut off once the engine cooled. Diagnosis was defective brake control mod. Pulled fuse 101 to keep pump from running. In 2012 the lights remained on with fuse in and the speedo & odo would go out intermittently. Nov. 2013, lost speedo & odo all together.
Warning lights in dash come on and go off, abs and brake light stay on, cruise control don't work every time.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact had the cruise control set at 60 mph when the vehicle suddenly accelerated to over 60 mph. When the contact applied the brake, the cruise control did not disengage. When the contact shifted into neutral, the cruise control disengaged. The failure occurred twice after the vehicle was taken to the local dealership for repairs for recall 09v399000 (vehicle speed control). The contact planned to take the vehicle to the dealership for diagnosis. The current and failure mileages were approximately 18,000.
No recall notice sent to me regarding cruise control switch recall that could cause fire while driving or idle. My 2001 Ford Windstar was parked in my driveway approximately 5:30 pm on 04/21/2010 and at 10:57 the engine caught fire and blew up. The fire also melted the siding on the house.
Cruise control automatically engages and slowly accelerates the vehicle. When not using cruise control and I remove my foot from the gas pedal (not yet applying the brakes), the vehicle does not slow down, but actually accelerates at a slow rate and continues to do so until I apply the brakes.
2001 Ford Windstar. 96,000 miles. Date of incident 01/30/2010 while traveling on i95 in the baltimore area my cruise control did not disengage. Instead the vehicle's speed increased to over 80 mph. This happened one time as I will not use the cruise control again. On 02/08/2010 the local Ford dealer told me that the recall on my Windstar was only for a leaking switch. After completing the recall repair I was told that the cruise control is ok. Certainly was not ok on 01/30/2010.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford Windstar. The contact received notification of NHTSA recall campaign id number: 09v399000 (vehicle
speed control) October 2009 and took the vehicle in for repairs. On a separate occasion, while driving at approximate speeds of 55-65 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle began abnormally surging and losing brake fluid. In may 2010, the contact was driving at relatively low, unknown speeds when the vehicle abnormally accelerated in reverse and crashed into two yard fences. The vehicle sustained major damage and the contact was not injured. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the cruise control mechanism was disconnected. There were two more failures. In addition, the contact stated there were never any unintended acceleration incidents prior to the recall repair. The failure mileage was 106,000 and the current mileage is 113,000. Updated 07/26/10. Updated 09/07/10.

Several weeks of the abs light coming on, and cruise control malfunctioning, followed by my van catching fire while driving, and being completely destroyed.
The contact owns a 1998 Ford wind star. While driving with the vehicle speed cruise control activated at 52 mph the rpms increased to four. She deactivated the cruise control, but then all of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument control panel. The vehicle began to decelerate, then there was an under-hood fire. The fire department extinguished the flames. The vehicle was towed to a center where an investigator from the city inspected the vehicle. He speculated that the cause of the failure was the vehicle speed cruise control switch. She will receive a report in ten days. The insurance company stated because it was a cruise control fire the manufacture was responsible. The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 95,000.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. While driving 25 mph he noticed that there was smoke under the hood. He was able to safely drive the vehicle to a local repair facility. The technician extinguished the fire and determined that the cruise control brake switch failed and caused the fire. The technician removed the fuse which allowed the contact to drive the vehicle; however, he was unable to view his speed since the fire damaged the control switch. The vehicle has not been repaired. The contact will notify the manufacturer of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,000. Updated 01/29/10 updated 01/29/10.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that a fire almost erupted, from break fluid leaking under the firewall in the cruise control. He notified the dealer in reference to recall# 06v286000, vehicle speed control. He was advised that since his vehicle was excluded from the recall, he was ineligible for a free remedy. No repairs were made. The manufacturer was notified. The failure and current mileages were 94,558.
I have a 1996 Ford Windstar van that caught fire while I was driving. The cruise control was on. The vehicle lost power, then a boom and there were flames around the firewall. The master cylinder, wiring harness, hoses etc. Were destroyed. The fire was located more on the driver's side of the vehicle. This vehicle has been more than properly maintained, and my mechanic can attest to this. This vehicle has not yet been repaired. I was not injured. This occurred prior to the current recall.

Tl- the contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. She states that the cruise control does not work and the activated switch is allowing the brake fluid to leak down to the master cyclinder which cause the light to illiminate and needs to have the vehicle repaired as soon as possible. . The dealer was contacted and they stated thatthe recall did not qualify for her vehicle . The vehicle will be repaired at owner expense. The failure mileage was 125000 and current mileage was 130000.
For the past several years my van has has intermittent problems with the brake lights on dash appearing while driving the car at various speeds. Once I stop the car and turn it off the lights will usually disappear but sometimes will come back within minutes of restarting car. This tends to happen during warmer times of year versus winter. Also I have noticed a problem with brakes even right after getting them replaced. The mechanic says there is nothing wrong with the brakes?? around the same time this started to happen my cruise control stopped working. I had recieved a notice from Ford about cruise control recall but when I called the local dealer and told them that my cruise control was not working and I was wondering if it had something to do with recall they said no, that was not the problem.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. The contact stated the abs light illuminates intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer advised they will not repair the failure because the vehicle does not have cruise control. The manufacturer was contacted and a report was taken. They will not assist with the repair, because the contact's VIN was not included in recall 09v399000; vehicle speed control. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 13,000.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford wind star. He stated the brake pressure switch is leaking brake fluid and this causes his cruise control not to work. While he was driving the vehicle using his cruise control it slowed down and he could not put the cruise control back on. He took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told the brake fluid is leaking and not going into the brake pressure switch which operates the cruise control. He contacted the manufacture and was told his vehicle is not under warranty or recall. The failure mileage is 115,500. Bl.
1998 Ford Windstar cruise control deactivation switch is leaking brake fluid onto connectors below causing a fire and safety hazard.
On July 6, 2009, my Ford Windstar minivan burned up. I was driving to pick up supper when the cruise control stopped working. I went on, picked up supper, and started the car again. Immediately smoke started billowing. I pulled around the corner in the parking lot, parked again, and popped the hood. There was a small fire in the alternator area. I took my toddler out of the car and ran into a store to call the fire department. By the time they got there, the car was destroyed and a total loss. We had the car towed and given to mcdonald's towing. The fire department didn't know what caused it, but that it looked like possible leaking brake fluid.
I own a 2000 Ford Windstar, and the brake pressure differential deactivation switch has been leaking, causing blown fuses, malfunction of the a/c, malfunction of the abs, loss of cruise control, and malfunction of the speedometer and odometer. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2001 Ford wind star. The contact noticed that he was losing brake fluid. He then proceeded to take off in the vehicle. Upon further investigation he noticed that brake fluid was leaking on the wire harness. He disconnected the cruise control switch and replaced it with a 3 way valve to stop the brake fluid from leaking on the wiring harness. He went to a dealer to determine if the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign#01v207000 (vehicle speed control:accelerator pedal). He contacted the manufacturer and was informed that his vehicle was not included in the current recall for the vehicle speed control and no compensation would be offered. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure mileage is 140,000 and the current mileage is and the VIN are unknown. Bl.
Brake, abs brake, cruise control, and speedometer/odometer electrical problems my dash lights are on and off all the time went to 3 mechanic they all checked my brakes, abs and could not find a problem it goes on whenever it wants stays on for weeks then comes back on while driving this has been doing for over a year. I even put stickers over the lights that I can see while driving. I still think there is a electrical wiring problem it is very annoying. I can not afford to get another vehicle . I see there are a lot of complaint about same problem my niece has one does the same thing and my brother in law in west virginia his is doing it too so I really thing Ford needs to check into this before someone's van catches fire or hurt some one.
The cruise control deactivator sensor on the master brake cylinder shorted out due to brake fluid in it. This caused the wires to it to burn off the insulation and a large amount of smoke to enter the vehicle. All replacement parts are oem leading me to believe it is an on going problem.
The brake deactivation switch leaking break fluid down onto the cruise control.
Purchased a used 2002 Ford Windstar vehicle at dealership in December 2008--cruise control was working fine at time of purchase--around March 2009 cruise control failed to work. This may not be related but the speedometer would become stuck at speed set after depressing brake and slowing down- cruise control will not activate any longer.
I was driving down the highway, and engaged the cruise control. Upon approaching an intersection, I hit the off button and the cruise control would not dis-engage.
