1 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 01/23/2007

My van started to have sounds of a flock of birds in the engine compartment. It stalled after running 20 miles, the engine light was the only light on. It was towed to the dealer. After running a diagnostic, I was told it was the cam sensor. They fixed that and off I went. Just to get down the road another 20 miles and my engine light came on once again. Back to the dealer I went the very next morning. The service guy I spoke with said" I do not know why that came on, but we will do a diagnostic on it again and find out. By this time I was pissed off. The mechanic said it was putting out codes p0141 and a p0147? ( anyway it was bank1 and bank2) running lean. I asked him when it was in yesterday, did you not notice the codes and he stated "I will have to pull it up on the hard copy, but he did not do it. Now another dealer at a different location has it today(2-13-07) diagnostics are almost the same but with added fuel injector problems. This is not the first time the engine light has came on. More like the 3rd time, with the same diagnostic codes. And each time I had to have almost the same thing done to it( like the injectors being flushed out 2x, now for the 3 rd time in 2 years). But each time the engine light came on, it was always the same codes. Obviously there is a problem with the engine components.

2 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 1999 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 12/10/2002

Check engine light came on. Took vehicle in for diagnostic. Was told that the O2(oxygen)sensors needed to be replaced. Two upstream and one downstream. Second opinion/source said that those particular parts rarely malfunction. Was told that problem could severely damage catalytic converter. Approx. 57k on date of occurance. Seems too soon for this type of problem.

3 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 1996 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 05/09/2002

When parked in driveway (thank god) I stepped on brake and pedal went to the floor. Looked underneath and fluid was flowing off of the catalytic converter. Had vehicle towed to nearest dealer (allstar Ford, praireville, la) to fix. They advised subject line failed due to corrosion (I have the line and it is corrosion). Failure fits nthsa recall 02v101000 except that vehicle was purchased and registered in louisiana, but I have childern in NJ and PA and spend time there each winter and have experienced snow and salted roads many times. In any case there should be an implied contract when you purchase a car that a critical component will not fail due to a preventable design error, or if it fails not be repaired by the manufacturer. I believe any vehicle with this failure regardless of place of purchase or registration should be covered by this recall.

4 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 1996 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 10/01/2001

Overdrive lt flashing-needed new transmission, torque converter, planetary gears, solenoids; had to realign;speedometer off by at least 10 mph; need new rack & pinion-power steering fluid leaking; nothing but problems have spent so much money and also been without car for over a month -only had it 7 months!.

5 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 1996 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 08/03/2000

Nothing but problems since purchasing 1)door ajar light constantly illuminated-all doors checked none ajar 2) engine check light occasionally comes on-happened right after purchase and catalytic converter replaced obviously didn't fix problem 3)occasionally power windows/locks and a/c will go out unless adjustable fan speed turned to high 4)recently front passenger door will open at random usually during a turn-luckily no one sits in that seat 5)speedometer will occasionally flicker higher while driving at speeds greater than 65mph all of these problems have surfaced in the past 1-1. 5 yrs and have continued since then.

6 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 1999 Ford Windstar

The design of the catalytic converter/heat shield is such that it vibrates at highway speeds. This vibration permeates through the floor as a nuisance noise while driving at highway speeds.
