Ford Windstar 2002. The doors frequently open up again after I have hit the auto door close button and it takes several times to get it to latch. One door wouldn't open for 6 months, but now will occasionally. The most serious issue is that lately the sensor has been saying that the door is closed properly, however it has opened 6 times now while I am driving with my kids in the car. I took it in to the shop once when it was malfunctioning but not opening while I am driving, paid $500 to get it fixed, and it still never worked well. When I take it back in to the dealer, they say that there is nothing wrong with it. It is back in the shop now and I basically had to say there was going to be a lawsuit filed if one of my kids was hurt or killed if the door opened up while I was driving again, to get them to take another look. . . They said they would look at it and get back to me with an estimate to get it fixed!.
Doors will not unlock via the fob or internal electronic controls due to bad lock actuators. Had drivers side door lock actuator replaced about 1 1/2 years ago (under extended warranty), but now both sliding doors have the same issue. The sliding doors to not have a keyed entry system so the doors must be unlocked from the inside by pulling up on the lock knob.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The vehicle's door locks automatically unlock without warning. The child safety locks fail to remain locked. The vehicle has not been diagnosed. The failure occurs each time the vehicle is driven. The purchase date was unknown. The current mileage is 98,000 and failure mileage was 90,000.
My 2-year old daughter's right hand was crushed in the power sliding door of our minivan. Her hand is too small for the safety sensor to detect it and therefore, the door latched and locked with her hand between the body pillar and the door.
: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the passenger side sliding door opened as far as the lock would allow. The dealership determined the alignment was off, after realigning the door, the problem persisted. The door had to opened manually to get inside the vehicle. Also, while parked on an incline the same door slammed shut, the dealership was not alerted.

My rear passenger power sliding door has not been closing and locking. Door will pop open. As of labor day 2006 this door is locked and now will not unlock or open. This is forcing my children to exit the vehicle on the driver's side.
On the rear sliding doors, drivers side, the door will not unlock, when you hit the button to unlock, it keeps sticking and it will not let you pull it by hand and will not work at all with the remote, it does it every time we use the van, which is practically every day making it hard and aggravating to get my 2 year old out of his car seat,if something were to happen we wouldn't be able to get him out in time.
Anti-lock brake light went on. I drove it this way for two months. 15 codes in the system. Ford dealer states it's the hydraulic and electric box. To repair both would cost 800. 00 or so, which is including labor and parts. States it's a known problem of 1999 Ford Windstars. I have no anti-lock brakes when the abs light is on. Declining to fix at this time, but a huge liablility for myself. Possiblity of brake failure not discussed at this time. I have already had to repair the upper intake manifold 500. 00+ (at a Ford dealer) and also had the door ajar problem, which was fixed at home here for 0$. This is the third and final problem listed on consumer reports that this vehicle is known for.
For several weeks, the door ajar light remains on despite the fact all the doors are closed; the automatic locking and manual locking will not work. After 10 to 15 minutes of driving, it will go out and the doors will finally lock. Today, while that light was on and the doors would not lock, the driver's side rear sliding door opened while the vehicle was being driven and making a turn. This is extremely dangerous. My grandchildren ride in this vehicle and it is totally unsafe!.
The psd on our 2001 Ford Windstar opened while driving the vehicle with our two small children in the back seat. With the car off, parked and children in their seats, my wife closed the psd with door button in post. Door would not activate. After several pushes on the outside handle, the door closed with power and engaged. After driving several minutes the driver side psd tried to open while she was driving the vehicle. The door opened half way. My wife push the door button on the ceiling and it began to close again. Then it closed and reversed 3 to 4 inches and closed again. Then it repeated the 3 to 4 inches closed and could not be operated. It stayed closed until she reached her destination (10 mins). When she stopped the passenger psd opened on its own. The drivers psd would not open at all power or manual. The children left the van through the passenger psd. We took the car to Ford the next day. They replaced the door switches and contact pads and the power door lock motor on the stuck driver side slider door. The car was outside of warranty (57,000) and we paid $556. 44 for the repairs. By sept 12, the driver side power sliding door was opening again by itself, this time while it was in a park mode. We returned the car to Ford, they could not determine a problem and suggested replacing the sliding door hinge, they thought they saw wear. But they could not say if this would solve the problem. We did not complete the second repair ($250) since it was a guess. We have the parts replaced for the recent repair. The doors worked poorly since we first bought the car. These included two warranty services for the same issue of psd opening on their own or not closing on 6/20/2003 and 9/12/2003. With the first Ford replaced the b-pillar switches and the second could not diagnose a problem. Since Ford has again been unable to find a problem on 9/12/2005 and we are nervous about it occurring again with the children being hurt or falling out while the vehicle is moving.
The automatic sliding door on my 2000 Ford winstar pops open when the weather is hot. Someone has to get out and push it shut. This has been happening since we purchased it new from the dealer, and every time I have taken it in for them to look at they tell me they can't find anything wrong with it. Of course there are numerous postings on edmunds forum about this problem, but the dealer doesn't know anything about it.
Our vehicle has several ongoing problems that the dealer has been unable to repair. The traction control light occaisionally comes on and loud grinding noises are heard and vibrations felt through the floor. This problem began around 9/2004. The interior lights will randomly turn on and off while driving. The dealer completely removed the overhead consoles and headliner to repair a short in the wiring harness; but that didn't fix it. And both power sliding doors have malfunctioned several times. The doors will not open with any of the interior switches or remote, and the power locks on them will hang up. The doors have, on occaision, opened by themselves while the vehicle is parked in the driveway. We found the interior flooded one morning after it rained heavily the night before. We can only assume the door opened on its own. And yesterday, the door right side door opened on it own while driving at about 45mph. The interior lights were flashing on and off and the power lock swith on the door sounded like it was cycling on and off. The vehicle was taken straght to the dealer and they verified that it wasn't working - it wouldn't operate with any of the switches. We have notified Ford under the rules of our state's lemon law and are awaiting their response.
The 2001 Ford Windstar door open indicator symbol on the dash is constantly on. All doors are closed. In the beginning the interior lights would come on and go off, door open bell would chime, and doors would lock and unlock while driving. Now the indicator symbol on dash stays on and interior lights are not working when you open the doors and doors do not lock automatically when driving off. Problem cannot be located.
2000 Windstar sel - sporadic and continuing failure of psds on both sides to close when vehicle stopped, stay open when vehicle placed into gear, and open while vehicle in motion. Paid $2,000+ to sunland Ford to repair, still occuring, going in again. Ford service personnel have been rude, thrown papers at my daughter when she picked the vehicle up (I'm 70). Son in law searched your database for info, don't understand why psds opening while in motion isn't a safety problem.
2003 Ford Windstar with automatic power sliding doors. This is the third incident where the doors automatically opened when they were closed and locked. The first 2x I returned to find the doors opened and retracted. The third my 3 year old was seated in her car seat when the door opened while driving. This is a hazard and major safety issue. Ford has ignored my phone calls and Ford service they can find no problem and cleaned the contacts. I will file suit in the next few weeks to address this horrible defect.
Consumer stated the power doors locked on their own. Consumer was concerned that in an emergency they will be trapped inside . The transmission was difficult to move from park. Once it was pulled out of park it made a loud bang.
We own a 1999 Ford Windstar. We bought it in November of 2001. We have had many problems with the power doors. We have taken it in to the Ford dealer repair shop to get fixed while under warranty, but have never had them working right. The doors very rarely shut tightly and when they do they pop open while in drive. On a few occasions the doors have opened completely. I worry that my children might get seriously injured if this is not taken care of. Has anyone else complained about this?.
Power sliding doors on my 2001 Ford Windstar either pop open or jam closed. When jammed, the door is neither locked or unlocked and will not release from the inside or outside. Luckily, this was discovered before serious incident. I can only imagine if there were an emergency and I could not get to my children in the back seat via either sliding door.
2000 Windstar van, automatic passenger side door opens without warning or input from keyfob.
Since about two months after receiving the vehicle, the passenger side power sliding door has repeatedly malfunctioned. There are three separate problems. The first and most common is that the door will close, only to instantly open again. Any of the three buttons used to close the door automatically cause the same problem. On these occasions, if we attempt to close the door manually, it will not latch at all. Usually after 20+ attempts the door will latch properly. Slightly less common is the second problem, when the door will refuse to unlock. The lock button can't be pulled up, and the buttons on the key fob or door will not unlock the door. Again, this problem only pertains to the passenger sliding door. The third and most recent problem is that, on half a dozen or so occasions, the door has spontaneously opened while the vehicle is moving. The most recent occasion was when the vehicle was exiting a highway and traveling at about 35 mph, in approximately 25 degree weather, with an infant in the seat by the door. On these occasions the door will also exhibit the first noted problem, refusal to remain closed. Two Ford dealerships have made the repairs authorized under warranty, but beyond that have stonewalled. One dealership referred the problem to the "regional rep", but there has been no resolution of the problem.

The passenger side sliding door on my 1999 Ford Windstar does not unlock when the rest of the doors do unlock. During an emergency this could cause a problem when trying to exit the Mini van.
While driving at any speed the rear driver's door opened and closed on its own. Dealership inspected vehicle four times on different occasions, and found nothing wrong with the door.
Consumer complained about an electrical door problem. When backing out of the driveway, the doors flew open and consumer could not control them because they were electric. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer repeatedly and they bandaged the problem which only lasted a month or so. Then it happened again. The consumer stated that the problem was on Fords data base.
The power sliding door on passenger's side lock and unlock for no reason while driving. Dealer was notified. Consumer believed this was a safety issue. The door has also opened while the vehicle was motion.
Door actuators failed in this minivan in 2000. In 2001 the relay switches were replaced and in 2002. Now in 2004 they say I need to replace the door actuators again. As a result the doors do not lock automatically everything must be done manually.

The driver's side rear sliding door will not stay closed unless forced. It opens on it's own regardless of when the van is on or off. Most commonly it occurs as a bounce-back when we've tried to close it with the remote or door-frame button, but it has occurred when I've started the ignition. My concern is that my 2 year old son rides in the captain's chairs in my van-up against that door. He is in a securely latch'ed seat (britax roundabout with latch) but I am not comfortable with the door randomly opening.
2001 Ford Windstar - driver's side sliding door unlatches without warning. Both while in motion and/or parked. Two times I came out to my car in the morning and found that my battery was dead because the sliding door unlatched in the middle of the night and the interior lights were on, for how long I do not know. I have brought the vehicle into the dealership 4 times already for this very important safety issue (problem) and they say it doesn't happen with them but they adjust the door and it continues to happen with me. I have contacted Ford's customer relations and they just keep telling me to bring it to the dealership service center. It seems to happen mostly when I use the overhead console button or the button near the door iteself when closing it.
The sliding door senor failed, causing a 3 year old child's left arm to be closed in the sliding door way. Consumer had to use a crowbar to open the sliding door. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Ie04-008/power sliding door: vehicle's power sliding door would inadvertently open while in motion and stopped. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified.
2000 windtar sliding door on passenger side pops open while vehicle in in motion or door won't open at all. Tailgate very difficult to open. Ford company says it can't duplicate failures except once. I was charged because they said the repairs were cosmetic.
