We have a 01 Ford Windstar limited with automatic doors, with safety sensors. The drivers side door was working intermittently, not always opening and closing with the buttons. My 3yr old daughter reached in the van to get a toy and the door closed on her arm,(without anyone touching a button to close the door) the door eventually opened. The injury consisted of broken skin and a severe bruise on the outer and the inner side of the arm. The van was still covered by extended warranty and four parts were replaced:
1. Contr asy bdy s
2. Sensor asy - ac
3. R/contr & lat a
4. Actu asy - bdy sd
the door is still having problems opening all of the time. The Ford dealership cannot find a problem with it.

We have a 1998 Ford Windstar, the door switch, is a safety problem when the doors are shut, the light showing the door open, the door locks will unlock, and the in side lights will stay on. I had new rear door locks replaced, my wife safety is a factor if you leave the inside lights on, the battery will fail, if you take the fuse out, then the windows will not work.

Sliding passenger door has opened by itself on a couple of different occasions. The driver's side sliding door does not always shut properly. Will not close completely. Have taken the car to dealer for repairs and they say they have fixed it. Still have problem occasionally.
The passenger sliding door will not unlock, and once it locks you can not even pull the lock up trapping the people in the back.

I have power sliding doors on my Windstar van. This van has been taken to the shop numerous times because the door will not shut securely. I have actually had to take it to the shop with the door only particularly secure for them to examine the problem. This is unsafe especially since my child was in the van with me. I reported to Ford that I was having problems getting it fixed and they sent a letter for me to take it to the dealer, please note I had been taking it to the dealer for the past 6 months.

I would just like you to be aware the the automatic sliding doors on my Windstar tend to open up by themselves while in reverse or driving I find this as a major safety risk since I have 4 small children who ride in the back.
2003 Ford winstar wife was leaning on front passinger door, door was lock, but as slowing down for stop sign and a few bumps in the road the front pass door "poped"open enough to sound the door open alarm. The door did not open all the way, the lock button was still in the down position. Ford dealer looked over and said they saw no defect, however what and why did the door come open part way.
The electric sliding door on our 2003 Ford Windstar will not stop if my wife or child is in its intended path. The door will literally pin them against the door frame. I have had to apply force in order to have the door reverse. Also the door mechanism (latch) will not allow the door to open when pulled. The door must be forceibly pulled to ectivate the auto open sequence. My wife has stated that when closing ther door with the key fob that the door does not alway close, she has had two occurences where she has removed my daughter from the van and closed the door, when she came out of the store the door was open.
Passenger side sliding power assist door does not always latch correctly.
Consumer complained repeatedly about transmission problems, but nothing was done because the dealer could not duplicate the problem. The door lock was inoperative with the key, when driven at low speeds a clunk noise was heard, but it was an intermittent problem, the vehicle lurched in low gear and the consumer had to downshift when going up hill.
Both of the sliding door power locking mechanisms are malfunctioning. They no longer unlock with the switch. It is also impossible to pull the lock knob up. When the switch is pressed the door re-locks itself. If a person is sitting in the back seat, the door also will not open via the door handle or switch. This is a very dangerous situation if an emergency were to arise. Sometimes we can open it by holding down the front door switch and pulling the outside door hand at the same time. It doesn't work every time.
While traveling on the highway and without prior warning driver's side sliding door came open.
Passenger automatic sliding door reopens while in the process of closing. This happens about 80% of the time. We have to manually force the door to close some times and try 4-5 times the other times to close. This problem also occurs sometimes while in reverse or drive, when close button is pushed inside. Also, the sliding door does not stop and retract if something is in the way. I, the owner, remotely closed the door and realized I forgot something, I went to grab for it, and the door continued to close and almost shut my shoulder and arm inside. Fortunately, I was able to pull my arm out, but the door continued to close until it finally shut.
When my 2000 Ford Windstar had only 43,000 miles on it the driver's side power sliding door began malfunctioning. Initially it would not latch when closing and would pop back open. Since that time it has gotten to the point where it will not even open all the way on its own. It will open about 12 inches then stop, and still will not latch when closing.
Consumer states driver's door pops open w/o warning while driving. Mr.

Both sliding doors on our 1999 Ford Windstar, do not open with the electric door opener and the left side door cannot be opened from the inside. The right side door is deteriorating the same as the left side. This could be a dangerous situation if someone were in the car and needed to get out quickly for any reason.

I bought it two years ago and a month after I bought it the door ajar light goes on when I open the slider or the trunk and it won't go out therefore my dome light stays on and if I don't pull the fuse I risk the chance of loosing my batteryand when the fuse is out I can't open my windows.

While driving at any speed, intermittently the back right sliding door comes ajar. The problem has occurred on three occasions. The dealer has no idea what causes the problem. Currently, the consumer has a problem with the back/left side door closing securely. The door had been leaking since the vehicle was purchased. The door had a significant difference in space between the front door in comparison to the driver door. Also the cruise control was inoperative.

While traveling 35-mph in a construction zone vehicle struck a large pothole, and front passenger's door came open. Consumer stated that door was securely closed before incident.
Right side sliding door would reopen by itself after closing and remained open, unable to close door. Vehicle taken to dealer, and waiting on repairs. Repairs were performed by the dealer.
2000 Ford Windstar had multiple problems, most severely was the failure of the sliding doors to latch/lock properly. They would pop open while on the roadway putting children at risk sitting next to the doors. Ford dealership said they were unaware of problem and vehicle taken in 6x for repairs. Ford motor said they were also unaware of any other Windstars having this problem. Found on internet that this is wideranging problem. Filed lawsuit again Ford under California lemon law. They are buying car back. Tracy mccrackin.
On the day consumer bought vehicle and drove it home there was some noise coming from steering column. Contacted dealer, and the dealer said that they did not find anything wrong. Consumer states bells go off randomly for no reason, at any given time and when it rains both sliding doors leak inside, passenger side door is loose and shakes and rattles, will open by itself.
