2003 Ford Windstar. Consumer writes in regards to the performance of the Ford motor company and two safety recalls
the consumer stated the inspections and repairs were not conducted in a timely, efficient, and responsible manner. The consumer stated when he finally received an appointment for the axle inspection, it was determined the axle was cracked in three places. The dealer did not have the replacement parts and the vehicle was deemed unsafe to drive, and therefore, it was left at the dealer for over a month. The consumer stated he then received another recall relating to the subframe. The consumer contacted the dealer regarding the second recall and was informed they were aware of it and he would be contacted when the repairs for the second recall had been completed. The consumer received a voice mail from the dealer stating the parts for the axle had arrived. However, it was discovered the engine had an oil leak, the sway bar link was broken in the front, the right front tire was badly worn on the inside and the left rear shock was completely blown out.

My 2003 Ford Windstar engine caught on fire on 8/22/09. The fire department was called. It was towed to a auto shop by aaa. I was told it was the abs and oil leaked, which caused a fire.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford Windstar. While driving 60 mph, the check engine light illuminated. The dealer stated that there was a faulty valve cover, and the engine needed an upper intake and driver side valve cover. The cost to repair the vehicle was $500. The dealer did not explain the possible cause of the failure; however, when the valve cover does not fit properly, it causes oil to leak into the motor. The failure and current mileages were 89,946.

My van is sputtering and I was told it is due to the valve cover leaking and my upper intake is full of oil. In addition, that the engine is taking in air and basically my engine is covered in oil. Ford service then proceeds to tell me that the extended warranty will not cover this because it is a fault in design by Ford and on newer models this design has been fixed. Ford will not cover repairs either because I am just over 3 years and over 36k miles. If it is a fault in design by Ford as indicated by their dealership service, then I should not have to cover repair charges.
While driving ,the engine light came. We took the car to the dealership the next day. Service dept said that the valve cover allowed the oil to leak into the system. The repair cost was $636. 00. I asked the service man, how do we know this will not happen again? he replied, Ford designed a new valve cover that would prevent this from happening again.

The truck idles ruff. The wrong engine motor valve cover bolts were used at time of the truck being manufactured. As a result the bolts caused an oil leak in the engine. The dealership replaced the bolts. Please provide more details. There were eight bolts covered with plastic which melted and caused oil to enter the engine and run rough. Mechanic informed the consumer that many of these bolts have been replaced. The consumer feels Ford should cover the cost of repairs, not him.
Other is the head gasket went and leaked oil in my engine causing it to be replaced. Ford denied any problems with this and I believed them until I read your web site article on the head gasket problem with 1995 Windstars. I called Ford this morning again and read the article and they still will not step up to the plate on this. Nothing else has gone wrong with my car.
