While driving a fire was observed by third party motorist. The fire emitted from under the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to world Ford in pembroke pines, florida, for an initial assessment. According to world Ford, the vehicle showed heavy transmission fluid leakage, but no obvious sign of fire or fire damage. The manufacturer declined to permit Ford to work on the vehicle pending evaluation/inspection by NHTSA investigators to determine cause of fire, which may or may not be related to obvious transmission issues.

1999 Ford Windstar sel 3. 8l v6 - blown gaskets.
I bought my 1997 Windstar used 6 months ago with 87,000 on it, I have driven only 3,000 miles and my engine blew with no warning. This was the most expensive used car I had ever owned and we did everything we could before we bought it. . We checked the VIN report on carfax. . . We had the vehicle checked out by our own mechanic. I thought I had found a great (dream for me)vehicle. Ben satcher Ford in SC said there was no recall on this car only the 95 model and that problem had been since fixed. So I'm stuck with paying $3000 for a new engine while I still owe $6000 on my vehicle. This vehicle is the only way I can transport my 3 children around together, our other vehicle is a pick-up with only front seats. . . So were stranded.

The apparently common blown head gasket on the 3. 8l engine has occurred on my '96 Ford Windstar. I've been told by the local Ford service center that Ford is not compensating owners for this obvious design flaw.
Have a 97 Ford Windstar all of a sudden I had a tire blow completely here to find out that the coil spring on drivers front broke and went into tire, then to find out there was a recall 2 years ago on it but was never notified of it and also a few weeks ago, van all of a sudden kept getting real hot with rolling white smoke just to find out that there was problems with the head gaskets on these Windstars but yet still was never notified, this is not right, I feel we were cheated, now have a van that sits and still owe $10,000 on because I'm a family man of six and cannot afford the cost of these major repairs, I'm afraid of what might of happened if this would of blew with all my family in it on a highway, is this how the Ford company treats their consumers by lying and decieving them.
Have in Ford dealer shop a 1996 Ford Windstar with 92,100 miles on it. It has the infamous 3. 8l engine head gasket and front cover gasket problem, as previously defined by Ford motor company. Ford customer assistance center refuses to cover the cost of this.
I have a 1996 Ford Windstar (3. 8-liter engine) with almost 78,000 miles. I've owned is since it was new. It experienced a blown head gasket 3 weeks ago. The service manager at bert weinman Ford here in chicago recommended that I replace the engine. I did so at a price of almost $4500. From what I know, Ford has a serious problem with head gaskets in this engine. They have offered extended warranty for some model years, but none which covers my vehicle.
The vehicle failed to start, the dealer stated the engine was damaged.

According to jerry's Ford Lincoln Mercury, an authorized Ford dealer in leesburg, virginia, my engine blew a head gasket. This happened when I started the car. There were 2 passengers, ages 15 and 16, and myself, the driver in the car at the time this occurred. I contacted Ford and was told that the build date of my engine was 12/19/95 and that the engine had been built in their oakville plant in ontario, cananda. Orson, Ford employee badge #2092 acknowledged that a recall had been issued on engines built in 1995 with this problem, but that no 1996 vehicles were involved. I explained to him that I appeared to have been affected as well. He stated that Ford would not offer me any assistance, goodwill or otherwise, with this defect and that I should contact william clay Ford, jr. In dearborn, michigan if I wished to pursue the matter further.
