Loss of collant in engine. Dealer explained that this is a common problem and would cost from $1200 to $1500 to repair. Dealer also added that that motor is a "time bomb" trouble code in computer is po301 (misfire at #1 cylinder). Ford no help, considering they admit that it is a common problem that happens anywhere after 60000 miles.
Ford has been unwilling to discuss with me. I've called and written to no avail.
While driving under wet conditions power assisted steering failed. Dealer has examined vehicle and determined that cover under the vehicle which protects the engine needed to be replaced. Please provide any additional information / attachments.

There are several problems with out now three year old Windstar that have either been corrected temporarily or not corrected at all. The most persistent issues are with the drivetrain in particular the transmission which shifts erratically when going around corner or climbing hills at low spead. The recall was performed at 25k but the transmission continues to operate poorly. Ford has offered no solution or warranty extension for these problems. The engine problems to date revolve around the innability to use regular or mid grade fuels as advertised on the vehicles sticker, we have been offered a valve cover replacement for $500 but in speaking with other Windstar owners this only fixes the problem temporarily. Also it seems to me this is a defect that Ford should fix not the owner. The other persistent problem is with the direver side power door, in hot temperatures the door does not close completely and pops open when driveing. The dealer has repaired this several times and while better that in was it continues to be an intermittent problem. We are frustrated with the probelms this vehicle has experienced including the replacement of the entire power steering system, rack, pump and hoses and more frustrating is Fords unwillingness to stand behind the vehicle and its fault. Our overwhelming concern is that the transmission and engine will both fail before we have received any usefull value for our money. Ford needs to be held accountable for the products they develop, I hope you will be able to enforce some type of coverage or warrantee protection for the consumer.
I have had the Windstar in again, with same symptoms as before. Have an appointment tonight to see exactly whats wrong. Van runs terrible again. No safety defect listed.
Dealer has told us entire engine must be replaced.
White smoke coming from tailpipe/loss of antifreeze. Took van to dealer. Going to cost over 2000 dollars to fix. With the same problem happening to so many people who own 1996 Windstar, you would think something could be done about this. No safety defect listed.
There have been numerous failures of systems in my van. The engine must be replaced, the speedometer is out again.
Engine knock when any type of load is applied to the engine. Most prevalent at highway speeds and hills.
Ford recalled all cars with this engine except the 1996. My Windstar was manufactured in July 1995 using the same engines that were put in the 1995 cars.
Engine caught fire while parked in driveway. Car was not running at the time. The car was driven home from work, (about a 20 minute ride), and had been parked for about 5 minutes when the fire occured.
Transmission "pump failed, causing planet gears to come apart.
Vehicle has been in numerous times for new seals on front right passenger door for wind noise: also been in for failed brake system numerous times and front rotors have been on back order for almost 2 months: in numerous times for front end alignment-checked and rechecked by several Ford dealers and they cannot do anything, vehicle has always pulled to the right; engine has died several times and would not start back up; front pads on brake system have been replaced and rotors turned at only 10,000 miles still grinding and will not stop correctly; vehicle feels to me as unsafe for my wife and two younger boys.
Engine has trouble starting and intermittent lunging and rough idle.
When driving at slow speed the engine cuts off. This usually happens without warning. The manufacturer is aware of the problem.
Consumer experiencing problem with vehicle shutting off at random whenever consumer needs to make a turn. Vehicle been in dealer shop two times and condition still occurs.
Vehicle experienced low engine idle condition on deceleration or stop turns. The vehicle has been into the dealer for repair twice.
While driving at approx 20 mph or coming to stop, feels little shaking in steering wheel, then vehicle will turn completely off, no power in engine or electrical system. This also happens when going uphill, or quick stopping, it will then stop and it will restart just like normal. This defect has no set pattern. Dealership claims cannot find problem. This defect can result in an accident.
Engine. Air conditioning.
