2001 Ford Windstar rear axle recall. I brought my van in for inspection for the rear axle recall (1os13) the Ford dealership condemned the vehicle and I was provided with a rental car. Ford has no parts to fix this concern and also has no timetable when this will be resolved. This is unacceptable to me and Ford needs to stand behind there products and show loyalty to there customers.
2000 Ford Windstar, the control arm front passenger side detached from the frame while my wife was driving to work on 11/19/10. Luckily there were no other cars coming or she would have hit them head on. All vehicle controls were lost; no steering , no transmission drive train. The vehicle swerved out of control until luckily, the vehicle stopped partly on the side of the road. The vehicle had to be towed. I also noticed a hole in the rear axle which there is a recall for. The vehicle obviously cannot be driven and I am unsure if the transmission is damaged due to the drive axle being pulled out of it.

While driving on interstate highway the rear axle broke on 1999 Ford Windstar. Almost lost control but managed to get to side of road safely. This is a life and death problem where all of these axles need to be replaced !.

1998 Ford Windstar has rusted engine subframe, which, if lets go would cause side axle and front tire to seperate from van and cause loss of steering control, loss of braking, and possible accident. This was discovered while van was on ramp for oil change . Received recall on rear axle cracking and recall was done today by Ford. Brought subframe problem to the dealers attention and they stated that Ford was fully aware of this problem but could do nothing about it because Ford had not issued a recall on this time. The service station owner which did my oil change expressed an opinion that he felt that the front subframe rusting was indeed much more of a concern than the cracking of the rear axle which has been recalled by Ford. At present I am afraid to drive my Windstar with this structural defect and I feel Ford should remedy this defect in the same manner that they did with the cracking rear axle.

I have Windstar 2001. My brake light and abs light were on. I searched the internet and found that there was a recall on the axle, that may have something to do with the lights being on. This was in sept. 2010. I went to the dealer, they toldme the axle was cracked and that they would have to hold my van. It is now Dec. 2010,I am driving a rental. No word as to when I will be getting my van back. Ford wants me to look at new cars. Monthly payments of about $400. 00. I am sr. Citizen and cannot afford this. My van has 57000 miles, how safe will this be when I get it back? do I need to look for another vehicle. My husband is desabled and needs a large van to get in and out of. Please advise, since they don't want to give me much for my van, I am stuck. The dealer said that they are going to install brackets, not a new axle. Can this be safe? I have never had any major problems with this vehicle, til now.
Rear axle is fractured. Its has a 3 inch long crack on the rear axle toward the drivers side. We are the original owners of the van since 1998.
Rear axle on 2001 Ford Windstar is cracked. Noticed a banging sound while going over bumps. Took it to a repair shop that identified the problem.
To whom it may concern. My name is [xxx], we have a 2002 Ford Windstar. Last week the rear axle snapped while my wife was driving with my 10 year old son. But for the grace of god, she didn't crash and was killed. Axle actually snapped in two. Since this incident, we have gone on line and found over 200 incidents of this same problem. Evidently, rear axle is "u" design, and salt and road debris gets caught up in axle and causes corrosion. Ford better address this problem before someone is killed. Please note that most of these vans are used by families, with small children. I would hate to see a fatality without Ford doing something about it. Is there any recourse with Ford. My contact info

Back axel broke on our 2001 Ford Windstar while driving down the highway at 65 miles an hour. We just got it towed back home, today is Sunday so we will have to call on it tomorrow, but I see there are a lot of complaints with this.
I was traveling the kansas turnpike with my sister in my Ford Windstar van at night. The van then started to be shimmying and vibrating some, like when the road is rough. We were traveling through some construction so thought it might have been attributed to the road conditions. But the vibrating continued. We pulled off the highway and looked at the tires, but they all looked good. We continued driving, trying to figure out what was causing the roughness. I continued driving at different speeds to see if that made a difference. It did not. The vibrating was not totally continuous, every few seconds or so it disappeared, then would restart. I kept driving, with hazard lights, at about 45 mph, because it was nighttime, and on the highway. I pulled off at the next service/rest stop and got out and looked at my tires. One hubcap was askew, which I put back on. To see if that had anything to do with the van's ride, I decided to drive a bit in the parking lot. I put the van into reverse and just as I started to move, there was a loud clank and thud. There was something seriously wrong. I saw that the rear tires both were crooked, the van, lower, and that the rear axle was broken into 2 parts. A policeman verified that the car was broken so it could stay there until towed. It was flatbed towed to a Ford service center, where they had to replace the rear axle assembly, shock absorber assemblies, rear stabilizer bar, spindles, rear parking brake cable (which had rusted and seized up) assemblies and inner and outer tie rods and nuts and bolts. . At the time the van had less than 71,000 miles on it. We were very lucky that we weren't still traveling down the highway when the axle went kerplunk!.
Driving my Ford Windstar se 2001, it felt like the rear axle was about to fall apart. Indeed, the Ford dealership service department diagnosed a rear axle crack today, may 27, 2010. This is a serious safety hazard. The service department will not let me drive it off the lot unless it is repaired.
Backing out of driveway, the rear axel of my 2001 Ford Windstar cracked in half. I may repair the vehicle.
Rear axle snapped at about 30 mph. Destroyed both rear shocks and driver's side rear wheel.
I had just had our 2000 Ford Windstar serviced at our Ford dealer a few days before where they replaced worn sway bars and bushings. I was backing out of our driveway when I heard a snap and then could here something metal dragging on the ground. I pulled back into my driveway and looked under my car to find that the rear axle had broken in about the center of the axle. I had it towed into our Ford dealer to find out what happened they took a look at it and said it snapped and that there was no sign of wear before it broke. I asked if there was any previous knowledge of this happening or if Ford was aware of this issue and was told no.
During a routine oil change on our Ford 2001 Windstar our mechanic noticed that the rear axle was cracked about 12 " from the drivers side tire. If the axle had failed catastrophically while driving my family would have been seriously injured or killed. An internet search revealed numerous identical failure on Windstars of the same model year.
The right front axle broke without warning while I was driving to the movies with all my kids in the van. Luckily no one was injured but my mechanic said that should not have happened without warning. He also said if we would have been on the freeway it would have been bad, really bad.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the constant-velocity joints on the passenger side were repeatedly replaced and the speedometer did not work. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that there were no recalls addressing the failures. The manufacturer was notified and offered no other assistance. The failure mileage was 139,000.
Driver front seatbelt malfunctioning, persistent vibration in rt front end at 60-65mph not cured by new struts, sway bar links, springs alignment, multiple wheel balance. Ts.
