1 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

2007 GMC Acadia, service traction control and stabilitrack keeps popping up. It loses the power steering off and on if you drive it in the rain at any speed. Windows can not be controlled by drivers master buttons. Vehicle has 173000 miles on it. Purchased used from buckeye Nissan. Noticed issues right away but their mechanic said there is nothing coming up when they hook up the diagnostics. No warranty when purchased used, this is my first vehicle purchase. I was able to drive the vehicle for a year then got the service traction control and stabilitrack reading and the vehicle would not go over 5 mph. Still paying payments on the vehicle, I could not afford to take it to a mechanic so I purchased a cheap car from a friend and the Acadia sat in my drive way for 2 years. After I paid it off I started to look into repairing it. I put a new battery in it after it sat for so long and it started right up and drove like there was never an issue. I have since replaced the torque converter. Still get engine light and traction control turns off and service stabilitrack reading but has not had it slow down to 5 mph again. Now if I drive in the rain the power steering cuts in and out and is extremely dangerous as it happens at any speed. I have seen several reviews on this vehicle that say the same as mine. The worst part is that gm is aware of these issues but will not assist in repair if the vehicle has over a certain amount of miles on it.

2 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2015

I experienced the issue while driving in the city about 25 mph. I lost power steering while turning and almost hit another car. I have received a recall letter from gm and I scheduled an appointment with the dealership. They required my VIN number to check and make sure my car was covered under the recall and assured me that it was. I then took my car to the dealer and after they had it for 4 hours, I received a call stating they won't cover it because I exceeded the mileage by 10,000 miles. The dealership then attempted to make me pay a diagnostic fee. I contacted gm and they are not willing to do anything to help. I have owned my car for 2 years and they are just now notifying me about the recall. The dealership was only willing to give me a 5% discount off of $1084. I have expressed my feeling on this and explained that I just received the letter and that the car is 8 years old, why did it take them so long to contact the customers. They really expect a 8 year old car to have less then the 150,000 mile limit they set. I also expressed that this is a serious safety issue when you lose all power steering while driving.

3 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2013

While making a turn during a rain storm the engine belt began to squeal and I subsequently lost power steering and the battery warning light came on. I was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road without incident until the power steering came back. I've had this happen several times during rain events since I've owned the vehicle. It appears to occur when excessive water gets onto the drive belt controlling the engine and power steering unit.

4 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2010

I own a 2007 GMC arcadia and sometimes when I go through water (if it's been a heavy rain) my power steering does not work and it's very difficult to steer the car which could be a very dangerous situation. It happened when we were on vacation and we stopped at a auto repair shop and the owner came out and opened the hood and showed my husband that the power steering serpentine belt slipped. There is no covering over the belt and when it gets wet, it can slip. When we explained what happened, that we lost the power steering, he knew exactly what the problem was as he had other people that had the same problem. If we had been on a major highway, doing 65 miles an hour it could have been a tragedy. It also happened again during the christmas holiday.

5 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2010

On several occasions when the car goes through water/puddle the vehicle loses power steering. There is a loss of steering. On some occasions the loss is momentary but the last time it was more than momentary --while having gone through a small puddle of water and then going to make a left turn the steering completely failed and I was unable to complete a turn.

6 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2010

Lost power steering and alternator stopped charging during more then one rain storm. The serpentine belt gets wet and slipped because it's exposed to the element from the right front wheel well.

7 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2008

Low beam headlights go out. I've also taken the vehicle in many times for noise in the steering column. Eventually, I lose my power steering. Everytime, they tell me there is a leak or steering gear problem and it has been repaired but it continues to happen. Im taking it in for the 4th or 5th time now to repair the squeak in the steering. This vehicle is 5 years old and its been in the shop more than any other car that I have owned.

8 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2008

1st there was a loud squeal, car had been sitting out while it was raining. Then another time my power steering went out when I (had no choice) drove through a puddle. Called a dealer because it's still new & they wanted to replace my power steering pump. Over $500 cost there. I took it to an independent repair shop and they said it absolutely shouldn't be the pump because of the age & mileage, probably just a belt. Checked it over and said the rain/water probably caused the belt to slip, which in turn caused me to lose power steering. He said some cars have shields to cover the belts for that reason and showed me where all this occurred. Made sense to me and saved me a lot of money. I live in nc and my kids and I were visiting family in OH, I feel dealer tried to take advantage of that fact. . . Long drive home. . . Don't want to lose it. Drove fine and still is now. Of course, we don't have much rain here to really check it out.
