Our vehicle only has 86k miles and the rack and pinion is leaking heavily. The dealer stated that this is a known issue, but it is out of warranty. Sometimes, the power steering cuts out and it is very difficult to move the steering wheel. We believe that this imposes serious risk while driving and the problem can happen at any time. There is no repeatable scenario to demonstrate the failure. It is random. The front engine cover also leaks oil heavily. The dealer also stated this is a known issue. This could result in rapid engine oil loss and engine failure while driving. I took the vehicle to the dealer yesterday for inspection. Unfortunately no pictures were taken, but their two technicians inspected the vehicle and agreed on the known issues. The service advisor also agreed on the known issues. I inquired about gm helping with these known issues, but the dealer stated that their district aftersales manager was not kind or helpful and would revert to general motor's online goodwill calculator. He accessed the online system which determined my vehicle was out of warranty and/or coverage and that there was no goodwill available to use for my vehicle. We're not looking for goodwill, but rather for gm to repair these high risk product failures. Since these components wear with use, not time, we feel that with our low usage, these components should not have failed.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. While driving, the contact heard a loud noise when turning the vehicle. The stability rack and traction control indicators illuminated before and during the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion failed. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 111,383.
The first issue was the water pump, replaced it and 2 months later out went the power steering pump. At that time of replacing the power steering pump the dealership also replaced the rack and pinion and timing chain. Now, it's the transmission. Going rounds with gm to get them to take care of the issue in its entirety. This vehicle doesn't even have 63k miles on it! this vehicle is defective in every which way. I'm worried about what will go out next. I was looking for something reliable and safe and this Acadia has been everything but that. I have several friends that are also experiencing the same issues. Let the game begin. I have never had a vehicle that I feel is so unsafe and unreliable. I am a hard working woman who drove the same car for 13 years and had none of the issues that I am having with this Acadia that I paid twice as much for! so, to anyone wanting to purchase an Acadia, do reconsider, even as dependable as you feel your dealership may be. . . It will be a lemon in the long run. Be prepared to get your gloves on in the ring with GMC as I'm currently doing. . . As I'm driving a dealership loaner, for 2 days now. . . Good luck!.
Power steering went out completely with absolutely no warning while driving my child to school. Luckily I was not in a vehicle accident. This has happend to me twice already for this vehicle. Both power steering and rack and pinion have gone out while driving and has been replaced twice by GMC in the past 9 months!.
I have a 2007 GMC Acadia with 59,000 miles on it. At 29,000 miles on it, they replaced the power steering pump. Now at 59,000 they are saying it needs a steering rack and pinion assembly and possibly a pump. After doing some research online, I found that these items have a very high failure rate in these vehicles. This seems like an obvious defect that would be very dangerous, especially considering that when these parts fail, the vehicle is almost if not definitely impossible to steer.
The contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that after her vehicle was serviced, she was informed that her steering rack and opinion needed to be replaced. They advised her that it was due to insufficient grease. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
2007 GMC Acadia. Consumer writes regarding the rack and pinion steering being replaced with low mileage.
I purchased a brand new 2007 GMC Acadia in Nov. Of 2007. Since new it has had a steering issue that can not be fixed. The rack and pinion has been replaced and the vehicle has burned up numerous powersteering pumps. The steering, while in a curve, will lock up and then release throwing the vehicle in the direction the wheel is turned. It has thrown the vehicle into the other lane of on coming traffic as well as throwing the vehicle of the road into a fence. Each time the dealership has picked the vehicle up replaced the steering pumps but the problem still remains. The vehicle currently has 47,000 miles on it. The transmission locked up and the shifting components were replaced, then the transmission locked up and was replaced. The steering issue is are main concern. It was taken in on 9/28/10 and received new transmission and powersteering pump. We received the vehicle on 10/25/2010. On, 10/28/10 the vehicle steering locked up again throwing my wife off the road into a fence. There is no way that gm has put three bad power steering pumps on the vehicle. The vehicle has a more serious problem that is binding the steering causing the pumps to burn up. The same problem has made the vehicle unsafe to drive due to the danger of it locking up and throwing the vehicle into on coming traffic. I have all service records reporting this issue. I will not allow my back in this vehicle and I am not comfortable trading it in for another family to be killed in it. I could not live with that. Gm will doing nothing about as they have been contacted. Please help me get a replacement for this vehicle (same year model type and equally equipped) and get this vehicle off the road. I could trade it in as gm wants me too and they will give me $1600 off the trade. But could not sleep at night knowing I put someone else and their families in danger with this vehicle. This car is dangerous. Driving 65mph on freeway when every service and warning light went on. Replaced entire instrument cluster and replace ipc, could have killed us and others. Also engine was removed to repair engine front cover leak at 39,000, now at 85,000 same leak repair is required at cost of $2926. That means every 40,000 miles you need to spend $3000 and have engine removed. Power steering always made whining noise which I was told is normal. At 85,000 was told steering rack and pinion gears need replacement and I am sure the pump needs replacement as well $2000. When driving on the freeway could not stop on exit without brake pedal being pushed all the way to floor, stabiltrak light on could have killed us or someone. Had to replace brake master cylinder. Water pump was leaking after engine was put back in from 1st repair of front cover engine seal. Timing chain has stretch you can hear it, but they only added thrust washers. Rear liftgate - while loading groceries lift gate free fell closed on daughters head. Was told rear lift gate shocks failed. Could have killed someone. This car is a death trap. Don't buy it.
The contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. Whenever the contact attempts to turn the vehicle in either direction, the steering becomes very difficult. The contact noticed a clicking sound coming from the steering column. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was serviced for the power steering rack and pinion. The contact did not notice any differences prior to the failures. The failure still persists. The current mileage was 25,000 and failure mileage was 8,500.
