2 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2013

After traveling 160 miles and exiting the freeway the power steering was inoperable stopped to check fluid was full. Steering is fine as long as the car is above 20 mph. Stopped at small town shop, mechanic informed me that this is nothing new with this car. And that GMC has plenty of changes when replacing the system both pump and rack as well as different fluid but would not help me with any cost. For what is worth the NHTSA knows all about this problem would not hold my breath on them doing anything about the problem untell this car is fully loaded with eight people and they all are killed then they will wake up!.

3 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2012

There has been a whine in my steering column on my 2007 GMC Acadia . Yesterday I was driving along a 2 lane road going into a sharp curve. I was turning my steering column to the right towards the curve, but the steering column made a loud noise and would not respond almost causing me to hit head on into an incoming car on the opposite side of the road. The car finally did respond and a wreck avoided, but that is not the point. There are numerous forums about this particular thing happening to other GMC Acadias as well. The power steering going out is definitely a safety hazard and is not covered under their 100,000 mile warranty. I took my car to a auto repair shop and they indicated that the power steering pump was indeed leaking and needed replacement. These "incidents" need to be addressed and a recall put in place immediately on the Acadia. The dealership has not wanted to take care of anything under warranty unless my VIN matched the one on a particular recall even when I was having the exact problems in the recall.

4 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2011

When I purchased the vehicle there was a noticeable whine in the steering. I asked the salesman and he said that noise was typical with Acadia's and there was no issue with the car. When I took it in for an oil change at a different dealer right before we left on vacation, I was told the power steering pump was going out and needed to be replaced immediately. Did that even though we were delayed going on vacation and subsequently had it replaced two more times as well. Also have had leaks in the sunroof that continue to return, and have now messed up my power window controls to the point that I can not control any of the other windows from the drivers seat. Have had to replace the water pump, front struts, and now the solenoids are being replaced as well. When I purchased my car it had right at 54k miles on it and I had an extended warranty, that covered my power steering pump issues, but I have had to deal with the rest. I will have now put almost $3k into repairs that seem to be very typical with this car, based on what I have read on the internet.

5 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

My family and I were traveling on I-20 back from columbia in my 2007 GMC Acadia. I noticed a whining noise, tighten in the steering, told my husband that we need to stop for gas and check the fluids. Yielding at the next exit I could not turn the steering wheel. I finally with all my strength turn the vehicle into a hess gas station. We check fluids and called onstar for a diagnostics report. The customer service rep told us that they did not see anything in the major parts but did try to call a gm dealership (king Cadillac). King was not open and would schedule an appt on Monday. My husband drove the vehicle to the dealership, which we left for early drop off. Received a call from technical on Monday pm, which stated it was the power steering pump. Asked him about if there was any complaint or recalls on the pump because the power steering pump was replace back at 14,000 miles. This would be the 3rd pump that has been put on this car. I have been researching and noticed that there was a technical service bulletin on sept. 10, 2008 for this problem and many complaints since 2008.

6 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2008

Bought a brand new 2007 Acadia in July 2007. After several times of having it in the shop for a leaky sunroof, I thought all was well. About a month ago I noticed a very loud whining, especially on turns. Turns out that the power steering pump is going out and dealership said I would have to have it fixed pronto! said it could be very dangerous to drive. So after paying over 36,000. 00 for this automobile, I now have to pay 800. 00 to replace a power steering pump on a new car that I have had for a year and a half. What?! the dealership said they could probably fix it soon. I hope since this is my only source of transportation for me and my family.

10 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2008

As I was driving on a major highway, I hit a water puddle with the right front wheel during a rain storm as I was about to make a right-hand turn into a parking lot. As I began the turn the power steering stopped working. Had I not slowed down to make a turn, I would have hit a car in the parking lot, but I was able to avoid it, because I was going so slow at the time. I had all I could do, to turn the wheel and keep from hitting another vehicle. I called "onstar" and reported the problem. They asked if I wanted roadside assistance. I said I would wait awhile and see if it would work later. About an hour later it worked, but was whistling and groaning. I was able to make it home. The next day (Sunday) I took it to the dealer and they didn't see anything wrong. They advise me to call the next day for an appointment, which I did. It went in to the dealer at 10:30 am that day. Apparently there as a service bulletin about that problem and the fender liner/splash guard has been re-designed. A recall or letter notifying owners may prevent a serious accident.
