1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2018

Purchased this car Aug 2017 fixed moon roof clogs and leaks on the inside, passenger side window will not go down on drivers controls, stabilitrak system shuts off, making the car hard to steer, check engine lights comes on, codes 700-shift solenoid a stuck; code 752-transmission control system, acceleration is unreliable and goes into "limp home mode" where it will not allow me to go over 40-45mph and rpm does not go down, it will not shift easily from park to drive or reverse.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2018

We got this 2007 GMC Acadia at 100,230 miles on August 2014. Now it has around 133,800 miles. At 115,000 miles it stated to have issues where it said stability track. The traction control turns off by itself and not sure if the stability and this are the same thing. Some electric parts have already failed. The charging outlet and electric windows don't work right. The passenger side can not be put down by driver side. The rear right side can only be put down of up by the driver. The left rear does not work when the driver puts it down or up. The power in the lift gate in the back has gone out. It only opens or closes manually. There was also a recall with the lift gate and we got it fixed. After it was fixed then a while later it would close on us and it almost hit us but we reacted fast. It only closed on us about three times then it stopped working. It was recall 15240. The safety issue is that the steering wheel gets hard to turn when making a turn or u turn. It has happened many times as I am driving. One time is almost made me crash into a car. I have taken it to two mechanics and it has engine and transmission codes. For just the transmission codes it will cost me up to $4,000. According to the carfax records it has had internal transmission repairs at 53,543 miles. I feel like this car post a safety issue because of the steering wheel problem. We have had this car for 3years and we have experienced many problems with it. Gm should pay for this faulty parts.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2016

I was driving home and as I was making a slow turn into my driveway the power steering all of the sudden cut out and I slid off the road and into a ditch. As I have browsed the internet there are thousands of reports of similar happenings.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2015

My power steering is leaking. Some recalls have been made on other vehicles but not mine.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2015

The sunroof leaks and causes electrical problems. Suddenly while driving the power steering gears, rack, and bushings are defective causing the power steering to go out during low speeds. Tried having it replaced under the recall, however, 9 months later the same thing happened and nobody wants to fix it or allows for the dealer to replace it again. This is a major safety feature that should never be acceptable! also, the transmission already had to be replaced and is going out again. The manufacture made a faulty vehicle and should be held accountable for these parts and the labor not to mention the inconvenience of having to fight with the dealer and gm to get the problem corrected.

7 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2015

Anytime I turn thepower steering is gone at low speeds. I have searched the problem and almost every Acadia owner has had this problem.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2015

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. While driving 25 mph and making a left or right turn, the vehicle vibrated and there was a loss of power steering. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Steering locks up when driving down the road causing you to lose all control of your vehicles steering. We almost hit traffic light and hit by a semi on the interstate. Also transmission failed and will loose all power when your driving down the road. This vehicle is dangerous to drive and is a very common problem. This needs to be recalled or a class action lawsuit needs to be opened. This vehicle only has 88,000 miles on it and is a hazard to drive.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

Twice, in a matter of 24 hours, as we were pulling out of our driveway, the power steering stopped abruptly. Fortunately we were moving slowly in our driveway at the time. Following each incident the car was put in park and there was a loud screeching sound when stepping on the gas pedal. Just as quickly as both problems occurred, they disappeared. We have also been dealing with wiring issues. Sometimes the speakers work sometimes they don't. Sometimes the warning systems (I. E back-up alarm, keys in ignition, low fuel level, door ajar, etc. ) sounds and other times they don't.

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2014

While rounding a highway off ramp, power steering got extremely stiff. There were no other problems with the system prior. I got home, checked the fluid, and it was full. The next day I went to my local GMC dealer to discuss problem and repairs. The service writer stated "we know there is a problem with the power steering systems on these vehicles, and they typically fail in the 70 to 90 thousand mile range. " then they wanted $2000 for repairs. Repairs which are getting done cheaper at my local garage. My problem with this, is that gm knows there is a safety defect with this vehicle, but has done nothing to remedy the problem, other than make people feel that they have to spend huge amounts of money to fix. I also understand this is the same action the company took in the ignition issue they are currently going through. Yes, I am angry at gm for not backing their product, but that is not why I am writing to you. I am writing to you, because I am a first responder, and see first hand what can happens with safety issues to vehicles. What if this issue happened to someone who knows little about cars, other than how to fuel and drive them safely? what if it was a family and their children in the vehicle when this happend and they did have an accident? I understand all hypatheticals, but a safety safety issue none the less. Thank you for your time.

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

While driving the vehicle the steering lock up . My wife almost got into a accident this happen twice it also happen to me I took it to the dealer they could not pin point the problem they gave me a paper about intermittent stiff steering I told them this is very dangerous we just bought the truck a year ago for 20. 000 dollars.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

Power steering does not function at all in low speeds or warm weather. Power steering fluid changed by dealer to transmission fluid in 2013 per dealer bulletin and it still does not work.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2013

I was driving to the store, going down hill on the right side of the road. Mid-way down a message appeared on the computer saying "engine failure, power off" and the car just shut down with out warning. No matter how hard I pressed on the gas the car was shut off. The steering went out as well and I had to stand in the seat to use all my power to turn the wheel. Previous to this, the check engine light had not been on, no advance warning of this. I had both of my children in the car at the time. Luckily there was a bp gas station with garage at the bottom of the hill, I was able to coast the car into the gas station where they ran diagnostic testing and repaired my car and reset the sensors. Nine months later I was driving with both of my children again, in north east washington DC when out of no where the same message appeared. I was able to pull the car over to the side of the road and restart the engine one time. I turned around to go home and on the drive home the same thing happened on a less of an incline of a hill. The car shut down completely towards the top of the hill going down. Same as before, no gas and no steering ability. I was too scared to leave the car on the side as cars coming over the hill would not have time to stop before hitting us. I put the car in neutral and tried to glide down the hill to the shell station. The car cut out completely and lost all momentum so I had to push the car into the gas station and wait 3 hours for the tow truck to arrive. It went back to the bp station from February and had a new battery and several other items replaced. I bought this car new in 2007 and have had countless breakdowns and replacements- two transmissions within the first 3 years and repairs. I keep up with car maintenance regularly and do no neglect anything.

15 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. The contact received an unknown notification from the manufacturer that indicated that the power steering and transmission be fixed for free if the failure occurred, but under the accepted warranted mileage. The contact mentioned that the transmission was repaired but the gear shift failure recurring intermittently. In addition, while driving at various speeds, the wheel steering became difficult to maneuver. The dealer did not repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000. Jo.

16 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2012

Driving in moderate rain around a corner at approximately 25mph. The steering wheel locked up for 1-2 seconds almost causing a crash with my two children in the vehicle. This has happened several times since I bought the vehicle 2 years ago. I brought it to the dealer and the put a new piece inside the wheel well but it has not fixed the problem. It recently happened to my wife in the same circumstances which almost caused a head on collision with another vehicle. The children were in the vehicle at the time.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2012

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. When driving various speeds in wet conditions, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2012

In the rain or during wet road conditions the serpentine belt gets wet due to it's location at the bottom of the engine compartment. When this occurs the belt starts to slip causing an intermittent squealing and intermittent lose of steering control.

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2012

On two separate occasions in rainy weather I was unable to steer my car and turn it because water had gotten on the belts and belts were slipping and I had no power steering to control the car. I was told at the dealership that I needed to have both front inner wheel well front covers replaced. This would eliminate water getting on the pulleys and eliminate the slippage of the belts that run the power steering. I later found out that there was a technical bulletin out to correct this condition. I had to pay for this work that was done which I felt should be covered by GMC as I feel it is a safety issue. I almost hit two other vehicles as a result of my not being able to steer my car and that was quite scary. I would not want this to happen to anyone else with this model car.

20 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Power steering stops working for 5 to 10 seconds after making a turn through water often no more than a few inches in depth. Usually occurs during or after rain, when water has accumulated at intersection corners or resident/business entrances. When this occurs, it becomes almost impossible to change the direction the vehicle is traveling in and has almost resulted in an accident twice so far.

21 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2012

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. While driving 60 mph, the contact noticed that the power steering had suddenly stopped functioning. The vehicle had not been diagnosed and had not been repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileages were 100,000.

22 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2012

Wow what a shock another gcm Acadia with steering problems! I was turning a few days ago and my steering wheel locked up and it actually felt like I lost a lot of power when this happened like it was going to stall. I nearly crashed into another car because of this. It isnt a constant problem but it occurs probably 75% of the times I turn and my turns are super wide now. I cannot park on the first try which is ridiculous it takes me now 3 or 4 tries to park in a space at work. I feel like im driving my dads 1965 chevy that didnt come with power steering. Why hasnt this been recalled?? are you waiting for someone to get killed because they couldnt turn fast enough??? thats negligence!! I found hundreds of different complaints about this same problem online and nothing has been done!! fix this please!.

23 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2011

My 2007 GMC Acadia has always had very poor traction on wet roads and sometimes on dry roads. Yesterday I was driving on the freeway in heavy rain when the steering wheel suddenly jerked to the right as though my right front tire had run over a large object. A few minutes later it jerked right then left then right again. Each time the steering wheel would lock for an instant. I found myself partly over in the other lane. A very dangerous situation. I didn't notice any warning lights. This problem occured twice more before I realized that it seemed to be happening only on upsloping parts of the road or when I tried to accelerate. As I had always suspected, the traction control system on this car is faulty and dangerous. Faulty power steering cold also be a possibility. I tried to drive home at a steady speed and had no further problems. About a year ago I told my local GMC dealer that I thought the car had very poor traction and the system should be looked at. They told me they checked it out and there was no problem.

24 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2010

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph and attempting a right turn, the steering wheel would not return to the original straight position. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they stated that the wheel well needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and stated that he needed to the vehicle to the dealer for further diagnosis. The failure mileage was 50,000.

25 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

When turning steering wheel it makes whining and groaning noises. Dealer attempted fix which resolved problem for about 1 month and then sounds came back. Dealer refuses to fix now, stating that GMC has told them not to fix it and is "working on a fix" (which was 3 months ago). Still no fix being offered.

26 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2009

We were driving between jackson hole and thayne, wyoming and got into a heavy rainstorm and started to experience a slight steering problem. It was not until we stopped and parked for a few minutes and then started up that we really experience a serious problem. The steering wheel began to shutter, making it extremely difficult to steer the vehicle to the point that we forced to park the vehicle until the next morning. After sitting over night and allowed to dry out, the steering improved, but there still remained a slight shutter as we start to move and attempt to steer either right or left. It has left us a little concerned over this matter, causing me to take it to our local GMC dealership (harmon's motor, provo, utah). They checked the water shields and found them in tact so they chose to replace the serpentine belt. Otherwise,. There remains a slight lag or pause in the steering on start up when turning the steering wheel, which translates into a slight shutter. Once under way, the steering returns to normal.

27 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2008

Loss of power steering while driving when it rains.

28 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2008

Power steering makes loud humming noise. Issue discussed with service tech during initial warranty period and told noise was due to pressure in ps system. Owner told this is normal, but over the years the noise has gotten worse and annoying.

29 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2008

I was driving on i84 at 65 mph when I started a right bend when the steering froze up. The other time was when I almost crashed in to a hospital because the steering froze up. (just turn your car to acc. And try turning the wheel and thats the same problem I have at 65 mph. No steering. This is a very dangerous car and somebody is going to die or serious injurys will result. There are many complaints of this problem with this car on the internet. Please if you just check the car or I have it stuck in my driveway with the problem.

30 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2008

Power steering whines and groans at above normal pitch and is erratic, sometimes turns easily, sometimes freezes momentarily while driving, have checked all fluids etc. And everything is at mfg recommended levels. Most prominent at lower speeds.

31 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2007

The 2007 GMC Acadia and other vehicles built on the lambda platform are extremely dangerous. These vehicles intermittently loose power steering during the rain. GMC is aware of this aware of this problem and has created a service bulletin, but the alleged repair does not fix the problem. Gm has known about this very dangerous problem and continues to allow these dangerous vehicles to be on the road. Gm has refused to recall the effected vehicles. I have repeatedly reported this problem to the dealer, gm executives, gm engineers and the gm engineers have been aware of this dangerous product defect, but refused to act.

32 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2007

When ever it rains producing puddles the power steering stops making it hard to turn. It has done this since having car. I checked with other owners they are having same problem.
