I am requesting a recall on 2008 GMC Acadia's (throttle body). I have a 2008 GMC Acadia that is experiencing major issues. These issues include speed reducing in the middle of a busy intersection with my 16 year old son in the car. The panel displayed a red message "service traction control". Went a few blocks further when the car shut off completely on a busy street; police pushed me off the main street to a less populated side street. Messages displayed on panel "'traction control reducing power". I'm concerned not only for my safety but concerned about the many other customers of GMC who have experienced the same issue (similar issues found on the internet/blogs). My son and I could have been seriously injured if not killed because of this faulty part. I trust that GMC will do the right thing and recall this item before someone is seriously injured.
2008 GMC Acadia. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle transmission problems. An inspection revealed a broken wave plate and a damaged clutch.
Drove to pick up someone at the airport noticed that the car was shifting weird. After parking in the airport parking lot for about an hour wanting to leave tried to pull out of the parking spot in reverse I had no response in reverse. Called tow truck because I felt unsafe driving not knowing what else could be wrong. Next day had it towed to the dealer they called said need more time to find the issue. Dealer called the following Monday claiming 3/5/reverse are gone that I have an internal failure in my transmission $4500. 00 repair. Since then I been trying to communicate with GMC customer service they pretty much told me the car is too old and over the warranty. But they considered helping at first since I didn't reach 100,000 miles yet but once they spoke to the district manager from my dealer her said no no assistance. GMC has been knowing about the issue since they manufactured this car and has not done anything to stand behind their product. The parts on the inside of the transmission are breaking apart because of faulty material. Why is the customer held responsible for something the customer has no control over. If I do something illegal I get held responsible a manufacturer should too. Just because I was lucky enough to make to 83000 miles and over the 5 year warranty why should I endure the full cost of something that should have been fixed by the manufacturer. I hope more people file a complaint so action can be taken against gm.
2008 GMC Acadia. This year/model has had a lot of issues with the wave plate & tranmission. The truck was brought in with 58k miles and had the transmission replaced in 2011. This past week, the transmission has started to malfunction again. Same symptoms from 2011 when the transmission needed to be replaced. The car delays as it goes in and out of gears. The car now has 98k miles and will need to have the 2nd transmission repaired (3rd transmission in car if you count the one it came with). The vehicle is less than 6 years old. Looking at repairs, the cost will be over $3500. Lots of owners are running into these issues with the 2007/2008 Acadia models. I don't understand how gm is not doing a recall on these vehicles to address the root issue.
I just purchased a 2008 GMC Acadia one month ago. We live in washington state and it rains alot. The first couple days of driving the vehicle, we experienced water dripping all over our seats, floor, and in corners of windows when we drove it getting my 3 children and myself wet. I didn't think it was such a big deal at first since I figured it was a minor leak I could easily fix. Over the next 2 weeks, I noticed my front headlight would flicker on and off and sometimes not work at all. I also figured it was a typical vehicle issue. Up until a week ago I tried to start up the vehicle and it wouldnt start, I knew it was the battery. I took it to get checked only to discover the battery, which is located under the floor board on the passenger back side , was submerged with water. The batttery was taken and checked out good out of the vehicle. I researched online that there plenty of others experiencing this same issue and there are no recalls in place now. What am I supposed to do? this is a definite safety issue as its affecting the electrical system. I have a 2 year old,4 year old, and a 5 year old. My 5 year old has health issues and my husband and I bought this vehicle in hopes to have a reliable and most importantly safe vehicle because he is in the u. S. Navy and is away alot on deployments and underways. The rain draining inside also causes mold which is dangerous for my children. The dealership wants to charge us almost 1,000$ to repair this. They were unsure how to fix this permanently so they referree me to the body shop.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle stalled and did not restart. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The technician stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 129,000.
Transmission went out (wave plate) which caused the engine to rev. Up. Because of this I now have to have the engine rebuilt as well. I see that there are a lot of issues with the transmission from searching online. Why hasn't gm recalled this and made it right.
Driving my family to grandparents house for the weekend to visit. The trans started to rev between gears and then just quit. No forward or reverse just nothing. Now big bill to fix for an issue that gm knows they have. I'm not going to ramble on because a lot of people with same issue had spent a lot of time writing novels of what has happen to them. Simply will be put this way. Tranny stopped working,gm knows of issue and they should pay to fix.
Transmission went out car slowed to 10 mph.
While driving my 2008 GMC Acadia on the highway, the car started shifting hard, jumping, slipping, etc. This caused a very dangerous situation as this could have potentially caused an accident. I was able to get to a parking lot and then my car would not go in reverse, so it had to be pushed into the parking space. The 3-5-reverse wave plate is broken and will need to be replaced. After doing some research on the internet I have found that this is a major problem with 2007-2009 GMC Acadias, not to mention several other gm vehicles with the same transmission also have this issue. If there are that many vehicles having the same issue, this proves there is a major defect with this part and gm should be held responsible for this. This problem created an unsafe driving experience for myself and my family while on a busy highway that potentially could have caused a serious accident. Please do something about this and hold gm accountable for their defective part.
My GMC arcadia 2008 constantly stalls on me the issues started August 5 and has continue up to last night August 17th. While I'm driving the car would shut off on me and the check engine light would appear. I wont be able to restart the car so I had the car towed to the nearest GMC dealer. After paying for a diagnostic report the mechanic told me they could not find any codes indication the check engine light even came on. Last night I was scared because I left work at midnight after driving about 10 minutes the car started jumping then turned off and the check engine light came on in the middle of the street . I called on-star and they were dispatching a tow truck because the car would not come on. After 45 minutes I tried to turn the car on and it came on so I cancelled the tow truck service. This is a issue that's been happening for the last 2 weeks. I cant get the issued fixed because the last 2 diagnostic reports that were ran states no issues. I also had on-star run a diagnostic report right when the issue happened and they also told me they don't see any issues. I took a picture with my cell phone when the check engine light came on but no one seems to know the issues the SUV is facing. Everything stays on the radio the lights just the car shuts off and wont start for like 45 minutes to an hour. I've looked on different GMC arcadia forums and it seems I'm not the only person having this issue with this same make model and year car. Someone on the forum suggested I make a compliant at the ntsa.
I was on my way to my kids school with my 12 year old son in the car with me, when I eased over a speed bump I applied gas and my car would not accelerate. My car came to a complete stop in the road. Fortunately no one was behind me at the time. I immediately put my hazards on and my son and I tried to push the car off the road onto the side but could not. The engine continued to run. I put car in park then tried drive and reverse even low but nothing happened. A nice man stopped and helped push car out of road. My car is a 2008 GMC Acadia. We waited for the tow truck to arrive. It has 81,487 miles on it. I am told the transmission is crap. I am shocked and upset. This should not be happening. I do not appreciate putting my life and especially my child's life in danger. Thank goodness we were off the major highway!!!! and that my entire family of seven was not in the vehicle at the time. GMC needs to recall and fix the issues. Please don't wait until there are fatalities. Thanks!.
Started from a red light, car dropped in gear and jolted. Tach revved up to 3000+. Finally caught a gear and slowly made my way off the road. Parked and waited for a family member to come tow my car. Reverse and 3rd gear definitely out. By looking at the other threads, seems to be the ominous 35r waveplate. Need to replace transmission now. Luckily I can do the labor myself and save some money. I'm astounded how any other people experienced the same issue. Haven't seen any injuries yet though so I doubt this will become part of the numerous amount of recalls gm is sending out.
I was driving home from work at 2am and the transmission went out on my used Acadia after I bought it only a week before. I'm filing this complaint because after much research I have found countless other 2008 Acadia owners who have had the same issue. I feel the transmissions for this vehicle needs to be reviewed and possibly recalled. I have three small children and feel this vehicle is unreliable for them.
I went to accelerate and when I pushed on the gas the engine revved and the truck did not respond. I thought some how that it slipped in neutral but when I looked it was still in drive. After that happened the truck would not go over 20 mph. I got home and went to park and had no reverse. I called the dealer and they said it was out of warranty and there was not a recall on the transmission.
2008 Acadia purchased in 2007, transmission intermittently slamming into gear for high speed up and down shift. On dry pavement the SUV will change several mph well within a second. My concern is that this is potentially dangerous while driving in inclement weather. Especially on snow/ice! I am taking the SUV to the dealer on Monday for a diagnosis. I suspected an internal clutch problem or valve control problem couple of weeks ago. The problem is progressively getting worse. After reading online I found that this is a common problem with this series of transmissions starting after 47k. I wanted to add my concern. My car just passed 63,000 miles. I truly believe this is a potential safety hazard. Several things would have to happen at once (ie let off the accelerator, accelerate, brake, and be on wet or ice roads). The shift is intermittently hard during any of these changes in acceleration causing a potentially dangerous condition.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the transmission was replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 83,700.
Needed to replace the transmission due to wave plate failure.
Our 08 Acadia has been one problem after another since we purchased it. The latest issue is the transmission going out while on a family vacation going 65mph down the interstate. The stability track lights start lighting, the engine light comes on and then the transmission just stops working. We get the car pulled over, shut it off, turn it back on and it resets itself. It starts going, but then goes back out again. We've had towed it to our final destination. We are now more than $4500 out of pocket and ruined our family trip, we couldn't go anywhere. A transmission shouldn't go out with only 72k miles. We see this is a very common problem with GMC Acadia and nothing is being done by GMC. This is a major safety concern and this should be addressed along with the power steering issues. Many families can't afford these major issues, and shouldn't have to after paying so much money for this vehicle. Please investigate this issue and get relief for Acadia owners!! GMC is aware of this problem and continue to ignore this problem.
I pulled out to merger with on coming traffic and my 2008 GMC Acadia transmission stopped working. The only reason I didn¿t have a crash was because I was able to pull back on the merge lane. No warning light came on dash. I my car was towed . When I called a repair shop (gm dealer was booked with recalls) and told them I had a 2008 GMC Acadia I was told they had 4 others and this was only Tuesday ! my issue is that gm has known about this transmission issue (3,5,r wave plate) for years and not sent out any alerts. This is a safety issue . If I had been hit I am not sure anyone would have guess why I pulled out in traffic and just stop. The owner of the shop said he has called gm and ask them to send out something to gm car owners about this transmission issue for the safety of the car owners. How many cars have crashed as a resulted of this transmission issue and were not reported ? this transmission was uses 2007,2008,2009,2010,2011 and changed in 2012. Gm needs to send out alert about this now.
The transmission had been hard shifting from 3rd to 4th for about 200 miles. At 25 mph while turning through a very busy intersection the engine revved shifted through what felt like every gear, the car lost acceleration power; going from 25 mph to 10mph. Parked the vehicle. Restarted to find that only first and second gears worked and the check engine light illuminated. During the 200 previous miles of concern; I had heard a faint whine during acceleration. The first time any trouble occurred the vehicle was stopped behind a school bus loading and while I applied the brake (still completely stopped) the car lurched forward. I immediately shifted to neutral, not wanting to rear end the school bus.
Tl - the contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while getting maintenance performed, she was notified that the brake booster, rack and pinion, and wave plate were defective. As a result the transmission, brake booster, and rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 39,000. Pm.
I was driving through a residential area and pulled to the side of the road and left the vehicle running when I got out. A few minutes later I got back in and put it in drive and when I tried to accelerate nothing happened. I had no gears at all. I eventually got it towed back to the dealership where I bought it 4 months earlier. They said the 3-4 reverse wave plate failed and filled the transmission with debris. Had to replace the transmission cost about $4200.
I was pulling out into an intersection from a stop sign and check engine light came on and vehicle no longer moved forward when I pressed the gas pedal. Engine was running, so I put it in neutral and pushed it out of the intersection and oncoming traffic. Turns out transmission died and had to be replaced. Mechanic said it was a known problem and that the wave plate failed.
I bought the GMC Acadia used in 2014. It had about 80k miles on it, from a dealership. They assured me it has been inspected and I had an extended warranty on it. The transmission went out with my 5 children in the car on the freeway. I'm a special ed teacher and drive only 5 miles from my home and occasionally to los angeles to visit relatives. After 3 weeks of having the car, the transmission went out. I was horrified!!! the warranty covered the majority of the parts. But they charged almost $4000 for a transmission that they told me would be new, I found out later that it was rebuilt with new parts. Fast forward to 3 years later, the water pump, the fuel pump, the axle and the transmission and computer has went out again. Another almost $4000, this time it has to come out of my pocket as the warranty is expired. It is bleeding me dry. I have the car serviced regularly and keep all of my service records, this makes absolutely no sense. As a parent of 5 children, (2 special needs), I was excited about my purchase, now I wish I would've never done it. --.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a traffic light, the vehicle failed to move. The contact stated that the check engine warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 48,700.
The transmission again is going out on it for the 3rd time. This last time there was snow on the road and when it kicks down because of the wave plate failing again this time I was going around a corner and it kicked down and made me slide off the road I was able to get out and almost hitting the guard rail.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly failed to respond to acceleration attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Transmission wave plate issues. . . . The car shifts into different gears and about caused an accident. Took it to a mechanic and it is a transmission wave plate that needs replaced. Going to cost us around $4000. Just spent 1000 dollars to fix the power seats that quit working also.
While traveling a busy highway going uphill, my transmission began to have what felt like slipping clutch issues, and finally failed - leaving me stranded on a very busy stretch of highway 80 east bound. It was very scary to be just barely off the roadway (was lucky to make it all the way off the road) with huge trucks whizzing by. I have had it diagnosed and the clutch waveplates on these Acadia Gmcs have a well known and common failure issue. A $3500 bill is not what I need right now, it's going to really hurt. This transmission needs to be recalled before someone gets killed on a busy freeway. The problem is there was not much warning of an eminent failure before it basically left me dead in the water - I was just fortunate this time that I was traveling in the right lane. If I had been in the left lane or middle, I am not sure I would have been able to get over before it would just leave me in the middle of the road. It's definitely a safety issue. Who could make an argument that it is not unsafe?.
Wife driving along and transmission dropped out. Car is vary well taken care of. In 5 years and ten months of owning the vehicle the tranny goes? car only has 49000 miles, and apparently there is a none problem with the tranny. Vehicle repairs cost 4000, completely unacceptable. Code on vehicle wasp0776. 00, just like every other complaint I have seen on the internet. Something must be done. Would not recommend this car to anyone. My father is a gm employee and he is disgusted with this.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. While traveling about 30 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to increase speed despite the accelerator pedal being depressed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be rebuilt or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000. - ll.
After exiting the interstate while driving my 2008 GMC Acadia, I stopped at the end of exit ramp and while trying to accelerate, I lost power and unable to reach posted speed limits. The car lost power and had to be towed to a GMC dealership and was told that the 3-5 wave plate failed and caused further damage to the transmission. The dealership stated that no signs of operator abuse were observed and it appeared that the wave plate failed on its own. The costs of repair was approx. $4700 since the car was out warranty by 8 months and had 60,400 miles. I have called GMC customer service and waiting for resolution on my claim that my costs to repair should be mitigated since it appears that the wave plate failure was a design or manufacturing issue.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate over 20 mph. The stabilitrac and several other warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle shook violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Transmission went out on turnpike. Causing family to miss a family members college graduation. Car was stuck on side of turnpike for 3 hours with little kids in car while high speed vehicles drive by. When I took car to mechanic for repair they had identical problems with another Acadia. This car is very dangerous and expensive for families.
