Back seat arm rest bracket welds failed. Not enough penetration. What else doesn't have enough weld penetration on the seat frames? working in an automotive seating facility I know the importance.

In a rear end collisionanother car hitting us, we were just beginning to move when the light turned green, he was coming behind us at a high rate of speedthe passenger seat came forward almost throwing me into the dash, then flew backwards, collapsing into the seat behind it. I did not know about this being a problem until I saw it on tv about child safety in the rear seat. If anyone had been in the seat behind me they would have been seriously injured. Surprisingly, I was not injured. The car was totaled because the rear was so damaged it could not be straightened.

This is in regards to the center row, middle seat belt. My 9 year old was sitting in this seat using the seat belt. I was driving down a hill at roughly 40 mph when the light at the bottom changed so I stopped. My son was leaning a little forward and the seat belt locked up. I told him to lean back and it should unlock. But it did not, it kept clicking like when using a seat belt for a car seat. At which point he became stuck up against the seat and couldn't move his chest. He started panicking so I had to pull over to assist him. I unbuckled the seat belt and let it go in and it locked, completely inside the seat. After pushing in what little slack there was I got it to release and was able to pull it out, but only about 6 inches and then it locked again. I then had to move my child to another seat while on the side of a busy road. The seat belt has remained locked in this position for about 3 weeks. I took the car in last week for an oil change and the recall on the airbags so I asked if they could look at this too. They misquoted us on the price and then proceeded to tell me the only way to fix it was to take the whole seat apart and it would cost roughly $400. 00 and insisted there would be no way for this to be for a recall, as they didn't see it as a safety concern. I have to adamantly disagree. A seat belt locking and not locking could be a very dangerous thing in an accident, or even in a sudden stop.

The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph when the middle row seat began to fracture from the base. The contact was able to reattach the seat to its base. An occupied child restraint system was secured to the middle row by the latch system during the failure. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was advised that the child restraint system was the cause of the failure and that she should purchase a different model. The contact purchased a new child restraint however the failure persisted intermittently and only when the child restraint was secured to the seat. The vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer numerous times where they were unable to diagnose the failure. There were no repairs. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 30,000.

The contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that the middle bench (60/40 split) had an issue where the 60 part would constantly "pop" up towards the driver seat. The issue was noticed every-time someone sat in the vehicle. A 164-lb man was sitting in the seat and was lifted while the vehicle was in motion. She had to sit her child seat on the 40 part to avoid injury of her child. She took the vehicle to two different dealerships a total of seven times. The dealership could never find anything wrong with the vehicle that would indicate a cause for the failure. The manufacturer told her to take the vehicle to another dealer which she had an appointment set for 11/06/09. The current mileage was approximately 29,000. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000. Updated 11/17/09 updated 11/1/8/09.
