36 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2011 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 12/08/2013

Driving on the highway coming off of an exit ramp, the power steering failed and was unable to control the vehicle steering. Turning the steering wheel was like trying to pull on dead weight to get it to turn. This continued and seemed to get worse as I slowed the car to a stop. Upon driving again a few minutes after the vehicle was stopped, power steering returned for 10 miles of driving on the way back to my home, and then failed again. No warning lights appeared with power steering failure, and car is not safe to drive.

37 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/13/2013

At low speeds power steering failed. Need to be accellerating in order for power sterring to work. Seems like a default that should have a recall given that this isn't an uncommon experience. My mileage is really low and I am frankly surprised to have the issue. GMC should probably do a recall before someone gets hurt or killed. Hopefully this isn't a recurring issue after I get it fixed.

38 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

39 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

Power steering failure. At speeds between 0-40 mph the power steering goes out causing a very dangerous situation. Typically at low speeds like turning into a parking spot, but it has occurred as high as 40 mph while going around a sharp turn on-ramp to access the freeway. Even worse yet is when the power steering quits and you are man-handling the steering wheel and the power steering kicks back in causing you to swerve resulting in a very dangerous situation. No recall on this is crazy with the number of complaints filed by doing a simple internet search. What is gm thinking? yet, they will do a recall on windshield wipers that may break when a vehicle is jump started with ice buildup on the windshield. I know around here the Acadia platform is the most popular selling vehicle that chevy/GMC sells. How about recalling something that could potentially kill passengers and other drivers? sure they will fix it if you are fortunate enough to have the failure while still under warranty. If not, the costs are very excessive!.

41 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

During the last few months I have noticed a problem with my 2009 GMC Acadia. The problem occurs with the power steering failing when I am trying to steer or turn. It is as if the power steering stops working completely and I am forced to use manual steering which can be extremely difficult and is a serious safety issue.

42 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

At low speeds the power steering system fails and you can't turn the vehicle. This happens pulling out into the street or into a parking spot. It has progressively gotten worse over the course of a year and the dealerships can't figure it out. They just want to change parts costing up to 2k and won't ensure me that it will be fixed. They are seeing it on many Acadia's and enclave's and this vehicle needs to be recalled due to this before someone is injured or killed. I am worried about my wife and family being in a vehicle that won't turn. Just reviewing the complaints on this website, I can't believe that the government has not done something yet. Take a look at the GMC Acadia blog or owners site and you will see lots more complaints exactly like this one. Please do something.

43 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 04/17/2013

On multiple occasions, the power steering has failed when turning the wheel of the vehicle. This specific instance, as I was trying to cross on coming traffic on a major roadway (posted speed limit 45 mph) to get into a common turn lane to merge with traffic, the steering went out as I barely made it into the common turn lane leaving me with concerns about the safety of driving my vehicle. I have concerns that the steering should be failing so quickly after 3 plus years of the life of the vehicle (bought brand new).

45 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

The vehicle has two problems. The radio works, but there is no sound for the back up warning, turn signals or radio. This problem occurs in the GMC Acadia, Chevrolet traverse and the Buick enclave. The problem is likely the premature failure of the bcm or the amp. When driven in the rain, the power steering fails momentarily and it is very difficult to control the vehicle.

46 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2011 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 01/09/2013

In wet / rainy conditions, power steering fails as belt gets wet and looses all traction. This has occurred multiple times at varying speeds and has twice almost resulted in accidents as we were negotiating turns. Various online auto forums highlight this as a recurring problem with the GMC Acadia. Why hasn't a recall been issued for this safety issue? dealer states there is no fix.

47 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 01/03/2013

On slow speeds the power steering goes out completely on turns this seems to be a ongoing issue due to other reports power steering just fails but not all the time someone is going to get injured badly as gm knows and you know of this problem.

The current mileage was 75,000.

49 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

Power steering is failing, this a wide spread problem across the entire gm "lambda" platform and should warrant a recall. Affected parts are the power steering pump and steering rack, cause of the problem according to gm was use of incorrect fluid from the factory. The fix is to replace the pump and the rack ($2,000) and upgrade the fluid to dextron vi. For gm to expect out of warranty customers to be on the hook for the high cost of this repair is completely unfair and unacceptable.

50 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/27/2012

On the first occurrence I was starting to accelerate to about 20 mph after being stopped at a red light and my power steering went out and I could not accelerate. I was barely able to steer my car off the highway and just missed hitting a tree and going in a ditch and my 2 children were in the back seat. I had the vehicle towed to the local dealership but there were no error codes showing on their computer. I have since had this happen 4 more times and the last time almost ended in a head-on collision with my children in the car. I had the car towed again for the 5th time to the dealership and the power steering finally went out on them while they were test driving my car. However, the computer still did not show any error codes after this happened. As of today, which is 3 weeks later, I still do not have my car and the dealership doesn't know what to do because there are no error codes eventhough the power steering keeps failing on them. I am frustrated and aggravated and after reading online at how many other drivers have experienced this exact same issue I am disgusted that gm has done absolutely nothing to fix this serious issue.

51 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 04/08/2012

The power steering randomly fails at low speeds. This has created several hazardous situations while making left hand turns with oncoming traffic and right hand turns at intersections with waiting traffic on the adjacent street. The car was repaired at a local shop by replacing the power steering pump. I was told this is a common problem and the new pump is a more robust design. The cost for the out-of-warranty repair was about $850.

60 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 01/06/2010

I bought my GMC Acadia in December of 2009. A few days in I noticed a whirring sound in turning. I was told by the dealership that it was normal, a design flaw with brushes in the steering column. June 20110 entire electrical motherboard failed, six months later the water pump failed. Brought the car in 3 times for airbag lights. I sensor was replaced then I was told to just "keep something heavy in the seat". For eight months abs and brake light chimed with nothing wrong. I reported that the air conditioner was not cooling only to be told it was all good, of course until the warranty was out then a repair of $600. Now that so called design flaw and whirring noise has turned into power steering failure an leak in power steering rack , !000 repair not covered by the recall of power steering pump. Unreal. What a bunch of crooks. The worst part is the GMC dealers pretend they know nothing about any issues and accept responsibility for nothing all. I am sure it is a protocol to delay and major diagnosis until a warranty is expired.

61 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

Power and power steering failure- when it rains or I drive through puddles of water the car looses power and slows. Also when I am driving the power steering stops working and there is a loud squealing noise. I had the dealer look at my Acadia and they said they could readjust the belt guard. This did not work and they said just be cautious while driving. Also the cruise control doesn't coast and the speed increases as you go down hill.

64 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/13/2008

I purchased a new 2007 GMC Acadia in March 2007. In August 2008 (21,000 miles) I brought the car in because the power steering would sometimes fail, especially in the rain. Dealer performed new liners per maintenance bulletin 07-02-32-010. Returned car for service of the same problem October 2008 (28,000 miles) - dealer stated that they could not duplicate the problem. Returned the car again in may 2009 (35,000 miles) for intermittent loss of power steering. Dealer replaced the steering rack. Brought the car back the next day because the problem still occurred. Dealer replaced the power steering pump (was putting out half the required pressure).
