36 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2012 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

6/18/15 liftgate came crashing down on my head so the struts were replaced at dealership for 116. 72 plus tax. There is a recall #15240 for this repair. But my car was built on 3/8/2012 which is 9 days after the recall dates you submitted. This date needs to be extended. More investigation needs to be looked into this and obviously my car in within the parameters of this recall. Are they waiting for someone to get hit so hard in the head and be killed. I would hope not. On Dec 12, 2014 secondly there is a problem that at 46000 miles the steering pump went out dealership told me to keep the receipt that they are seeing more of this type of repair. This repair cost me 2000. 00. Can this be looked into also. No steering pump should go out with such low mileage. While steering you could hear a whining noise.

Intermittent loss of power steering. Especially at low speeds. GMC knows this is a problem. Extended warranty on 2008 - 2011's but, of course, not for 2012's ("let's see how many people complain before we fix the issue. "). Forced to replace power steering pump, rack and alignment.

40 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 09/05/2014

I was driving the vehicle when I came to an intersection to turn. When I turned the steering wheel it was making a rubbing noise. I notified the dealer, and they said to bring it in. The vehicle was passed its warranty. I was told the issue was that the steering gear was going bad and needed replacing. I was told that if I did not replace it at that time, in the future there would be a catastrophic failure to the gear which would also damage the steering pump and I would not have power steering. The quote was $1,600 to replace the steering gear and bushings. I was told it would have been double that if I also had to replace the steering pump. The steering gear should not have failed at 63k miles!.

43 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

While turning corners, power steering locks making it difficult to turn the wheel. Feels very dangerous as you never know when it is going to occur. I am getting to a point where I am getting nervous to drive the vehicle. Especially with my kids in the car! this occurs even if the vehicle is warm and also after a cold start. It appears as though this is an issue with this model and I cannot believe that gm has not done a recall. I was told by a mechanic the power steering rack needs to be replaced, but I have also seen other online complaints the pump also needs to be replaced. This repair is very costly and my truck is not that old! I have already brought the vehicle in for the previously named recalls.

45 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/09/2014

Incident (first big symptom): braking and slowing to yield sign from offramp/ steering felt as if ignition turned off and car became much less stable in steering with a stiffening and rattling/tapping noise somewhere just left to the center of the steering wheel. Once trying to turn realized there was no power, thought the engine had stopped running and then hitting the gas the steering suddenly pops back into assist. This is a very unsettling first occurrence that I see on multiple internet sites has been happening since at least 2011 in many different versions of this chassis. It would have been nice to have known this before two things: 1. Before I had my four daughters and the neighbors kid in my car to put at risk of killing them ( gm shame on you as you this problem exists for 4 years) 2. Before the warranty was one month out of contract. The dealer states this is "unusual to them', they have not heard of it happening and do not think it is unusual that a vehicle with only 58000 miles on it has the entire steering pump, gear, and rack assembly blow seals. Repair costs are quoted at 2000. 00. Need to replace rack, pump and something else. Additionally, there are 56 posts relating to steering alone. Some of us driving these vehicles feel that being able to have a chance of piloting the car safely may be important. I used to think my dad was silly when he would say something is a poor design, but did the engineers actually do any testing on these vehicles? do you test the problem or just keep saying it's not happening? thank goodness this is all low speed and no one has died yet ( at least that we know of).

46 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

We have had issues that are getting more serious with our 2009 GMC Acadia regarding loss of steering control at low speeds and when turning. The wheel will lock up and become extremely hard to complete the turn. It has gotten so bad that I will not allow my daughter to drive it as the issue could cause a serious accident. Our mechanic has been calling other dealers and nobody seems to know if it is the steering rack or pump. Both will cost around $1000 to fix and we still done know if the issue will be fixed. What is GMC doing about this. Steering issues could cause them more problems than getting this issue fixed.

47 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

I started experienced steering problems with my Acadia when traveling at low speeds when turning into my driveway or when parking. The steering wheel would start to bind and turning became very stiff. I checked the power steering fluid and it was low so I added fluid. However, the problem persisted. Now it has become even worse and occurs more frequently (I. E. When I am making a sharp turn at a traffic light, parking, and at low speeds on any sharp curve in the road). I have taken my vehicle to an authorized GMC dealer and had it evaluated and have been told there is "a gear going bad in the power steering pump" and it needs to be replaced. My vehicle is only 4 years old. I didn't expect a problem like this in my vehicle. I am trying to get the pump replaced as quickly as possible before I have a wreck because of the steering issues.

48 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

The contact owns a 2010 GMC Acadia. While making a left turn at 20 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn without warning. The contact pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and the steering returned to normal. The failure occurred on six different occasions. An independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle as having low power steering output pressure and stated that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the failure was remedied. The failure mileage was 68,000.

49 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2011 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 04/29/2014

I had to have my steering pump replaced because of a loud whining sound. I bought this car new. Also the heating element went out in my heated seat on passenger side where it is rarely used. All repairs over $1100.

52 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 04/09/2014

Power steering pump is making lots of noise when I turn the wheel. Currently am afraid to drive it anywhere due to potential loss of power steering.

53 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/20/2014

Three times in one day my arcadia GMC 2008, steering refused to respond correctly. Each of the tree times it refused to steer. Car on no other time has shown this problem before now. But only purchased used car three months ago. This seems to be a common problem with car that is not being handled under a recall. Steering box and power steering pump on car seem very underpowered. On the three times it happened on 3/20/2014 two where on highway driving conditions in which I was on an on ramp attempting to navigate a circle on ramp in which I almost had to stop car to prevent it from running off road do to lack of power on turn. On another I was attempting to preform a u-turn in which I almost hit a cub. U turn should have been easy do to the fact I had three lanes to preform the turn. In this case I came extremely close to curb and close to damaging car due to impact with 8 inch curb. All three events came on same trip!.

54 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 03/04/2014

As car was accelerating to 30 mph in a lane of traffic into a turn, I heard a loud noise. Then, I couldn't move the steering wheel. I tried to pump the brakes, but the car did not stop immediately. I had no control over the steering, and the car eventually stopped in a parking lot. I was petrified. The radio was still on, and the key was still in the on position, but the key could not be turned. GMC simi valley says the problem was a rod to a cylinder that snapped, and was not due to an ignition problem, or related to a current recall. The whole engine needs to be replaced, almost the value of the car, given its current resale value. I would like to request an investigation into another recall event.

55 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

Potential safety issue - while approaching a traffic light with the intention of turning left, I slowed down to a suitable speed to negotiate the turn. Suddenly the steering was very heavy and required extreme force to get the vehicle to navigate the turn. After this incident I noticed that the steering was extremely heavy at low rpm. If it had been a less experienced driver behind the wheel, or if the driver were to panic I believe the outcome of this failure could be more serious. A panicked driver might hit the gas and crash into the traffic stopped at the light coming from the other direction, or stop in the middle of traffic flow in a no-filter left turn junction. The solution was to replace the power steering pump, and judging by the number of others that have experienced this issue it is a true defect with this car. I believe the solution for this issue is to replace the power steering pump with a know reliable model. Another solution would be to implement a monitoring system to detect a failing pump.

56 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 01/12/2014

Locked up making a turn going slow, pump getting noisy, just got back for water pump replace.

57 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 12/30/2013

Replaced steering pump, two days later replaced steering pump again. The issue is that at all instances of no exceleration the steering becomes uncontrollable. However pressing the excellerator restores power steering. At times there was also cases where the steering would not cooperate when entering a freeway when not excellerating.

58 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

Gm recalled the power stearing pump, but didn't recall the rack. Two dealership quotes indicated that the pump and rack would need to be replaced to fix the problem of stearing going out.

60 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 10/31/2013

At low speed, power steering seemed to go out while in parking lot. The steering became very difficult to manage with a loud clunking noise coming from the front end. Shutting off and back on, steering returned to normal. Took it in for service at gm dealership in evansville, in for diagnosis and response was that the power steering pump, fluid and steering rack needed to be replaced. Investigation online turned up information that this is a relatively common occurrence but gm would not do anything about it as it was outside of warranty.

63 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

At random times, my car's steering becomes extremely stiff, sometimes to the point that I cannot make the turn. Usually happens when turning into a parking space or making a tight turn at an intersection. I've noticed that it usually occurs when applying my brakes while turning. I've learned to make these turns without using the brakes. I had the fluid changed, but didn't help the problem. The service technician stated that this is a very expensive "fix", as he thinks it is the pump. Shame on gm for not recalling this product. Are they waiting for someone to get injured? how sad is that! I'm surprised to read of so many complaints that are very similar to mine. Because of this. . . Gm's turning a blind eye. . . I will most likely never again purchase a gm.

64 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

My 2009 GMC Acadia started to lock up while steering/turning. I took to dealership and was told I needed to replace my rack. They quoted me $1500! I could not afford this, so they told me it's driveable but will eventually get worse. I cannot park easy in parking lots, I can't make easy turns and it's terrifying when I take my kids in the car. I took it other places - some said it's the rack and others it's the pump. So far I had to replace coils every month, my engine had to be remodeled after a rod snapped off into it and now this! please recall this!!!!!!!!! it's a safety issue and way too costly!.

65 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 07/23/2013

Vehicle is hard to turn at low speeds, particularly when parking. Seems as though power steering is not working. Took to dealer and was told that power steering pump went out and that steering gear/rack should also be replaced for $1800+. This is ridiculous on a vehicle that was purchased new and serviced every 3000, primarily at the dealership from which it was purchased. Given the other 23 complaints that have been filed for the same issue, it appears to be a common defect and I am extremely concerned about the safety of the vehicle that my wife drives every day with our 2 young children.

66 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

We purchased our 2008 Acadia in 2011, it had approximately 30,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. Less than thirty days after purchase we had to replace the front rotors. At 40,000 miles we had to replace the front brakes; the air conditioner backed up, which required maintenance to the blower motor; and the head lights went out, which required replacement. At 45,000 miles the rear struts went out, which required replacement; and we had to replace two tires. At 60,000 miles the water pump went out and needed to be replaced. At 55,000 miles the front struts went out, which needed replacing, along with four new tires, and a new set of headlights. At 60,000 miles the rear brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. At 70,000 miles the transmission went out, which also required replacement. The final incident happened on 6/10/13 at 74,000 miles, while I was driving with all three of my children. I was going 50 miles an hour on a highway, and the entire car shut down. The steering console locked with the keys in the ignition, I had no ability to steer the vehicle, the brakes did not function either. I had to use the parking brake to slow the vehicle down, barely avoiding a collision with another vehicle.

67 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2009 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

Was driving our 2009 GMC Acadia and as I was slowing and turning the car became very hard to steer, if I was applying the brake I could barely turn the steering wheel. I then asked my father to test it out and even he could barely turn it when applying the brakes and was tight to steer in general. I am 500 mikes from home, but not sure it is safe to drive back home. Will call dealer but from all the other complaints it sounds like the power steering pump is or has gone out. This is very unsafe and although I was cautious while driving, it is definitely a safety hazard!!!!.

68 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2008 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

2008 GMC Acadia- steering problems!!- 65,000 started noticing power steering loss when slow turning sometimes. . . Off and on. . . Then got more often and much worse. . . Replaced rack ($300). . . . . Problem still not fixed. . . Next trying to replace power steering pump ($$ yet to find out). . . Recall on headlight- socket melted and replaced. . . . Airbag light continues to come off and on. . . Traction control, stability track, and airbag light come off and on randomly. No sound. . . Took to GMC dealership, they told us it was the radio. Replaced radio($450), still didn't work. Dealership stated amp blew and needed new amp ($400). . . Thought it was the amp the entire time due to the cd player working visually, but no sound in entire vechicle for any electronic feature. Shifting randomly when going down highway. Gas mileage horrible-- about 14 to 14 . 5mpg-- much worse than when we first got it at 48,000. . . Love the look and when it works. . . . Why is there no recall will the power steering?? come on GMC step up and do the right thing already!!!.

69 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2010 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

As everyone else is complaining, power steering feels like it's out. Especially noticed in parking lots when turning into a spot at a low speed and pulling out into traffic at intersections. I bought this $40k+ vehicle to haul my wife and 4 kids around and it's litererally falling apart. Serious issues with the steering, the gas guage only woks half of the time, the hot/cold buttons are wore down as you can't even tell what the '+' & '-' are anymore (and we had these replace once already under warranty) and the windshield fluid washer pump is out (and no, it's not just a fuse-already checked). All my kids are involved in sports and we put a lot of miles on per year. Very worried about the steering with my family, trying not to drive it much as we're trying to get rid of it ASAP before the entire country knows that they're junk! it's out of warranty, and I can't even imagine how much it costs to repair it, so just trying to get rid of this headache of a vehicle! we are actually driving around an old 1999 Subaru outback with almost 200k miles, and it's much more dependable than our $40k+ Acadia. Very disappointed! first question is, with all the complaints, why hasn't it been recalled yet? I'm guessing there has to be so many fatalities before a recall is appoionted?? second question, do the makers of the GMC Acadia sleep well at night knowing their product is very dangerous and it's just a matter of time before people start getting killed?.

70 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2007 GMC Acadia

Failure Date: 04/23/2013

After traveling 160 miles and exiting the freeway the power steering was inoperable stopped to check fluid was full. Steering is fine as long as the car is above 20 mph. Stopped at small town shop, mechanic informed me that this is nothing new with this car. And that GMC has plenty of changes when replacing the system both pump and rack as well as different fluid but would not help me with any cost. For what is worth the NHTSA knows all about this problem would not hold my breath on them doing anything about the problem untell this car is fully loaded with eight people and they all are killed then they will wake up!.
