GMC Acadia owners have reported 64 problems related to wiper (under the visibility category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Acadia based on all problems reported for the Acadia.
Rear-view camera failure: the rear view camera functions intermittently. While in reverse, the screen goes black, with a red triangle and a circle with a line through it. This safety issue increases risk of incidents resulting in injury and/or property damage while the vehicle is in reverse. I understand there already exists a NHTSA recall (NHTSA campaign number: 22v709000) however, it states that only vehicles equipped with the optional surround vision feature are affected. My vehicle does not have the 360 surround vision (rpo uv2). But is experiencing the same safety issue!.

A few years ago I was driving home and both headlights of our GMC Acadia went out at the same time. I drove home, in the country, in total darkness. We had them replaced by the garage, which was very, very expensive due to extreme difficulty accessing the headlights for this model. Since then, we have had to replace them two more times which we did ourselves due to the cost. We have owned this car since it's been brand new and have always had issues with seeing in the dark. For the last several years, we have had teen drivers driving this car. My son is worried so we recently we had it in the shop to adjust the headlights. They actually made them worse, which we didn't think could happen. They said they had their best mechanic on it but because they were doing it during their office hours, all daylight they never could see it at night. We had to get it readjusted back to where it was just to see again but back to still no good. I started researching to see if others are having similar problems and it does look like there are many complaints about loose wires in the headlights & fuse box, or maybe something related to the computer? some other years may have had a recall for this same problem. I really hope someone like you could investigate this. My husband is a retired state trooper and ready to get rid of this beautiful car just because the headlights!! we live in the country and our son is worried he will get in an accident or hit someone walking down the road at night because he can't see. A mother and son shouldn't have to stress about headlights/seeing at night/crashes when we have a nice car!! how do both headlights need replaced 3 times on the same car?? we are trying to see if they make led lights for this model but were told no. Any advice to have GMC help us with this before something happens? I would feel terrible if we could prevent something but just selling it and passing the problem on doesn't seem the answer to me. Thank you.

Whenever the vehicle's windshield washer is used the smell of the fluid enters the vehicle. This is particularly acute when the hvac system is used at the same time. Since the label on the washer fluid container says the fluid is poisonous and the vapors are harmful and cannot be made nonpoisonous, I feel I should report this. I have had 4 GMC representatives confirm this is indeed happening. One rep was the field engineer supervisor. All of this is documented as I have had this examined 4 times at the request of the gm customer service representative. Case [xxx], status update for your 2023 GMC Acadia concern information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Rear view camera stopped working as I was backing up and ran into a pole damaged my right rear wheel well and panel.
I want to voice my concerns with the windshield wipers, and storage placement. In winter weather conditions the storage compartement at the base of the windshield fills up with snow, even when driving. The wiper blades eventually end up resting on this snow. When wipers are turned on there is a quite often a build up of ice on the wiper blades. This causes the wiper blades to raise above windshield and not clean the windshield (partially or completley) generally you need to stop and break/snow or ice from the wiper as you can not see. Same occures when e get a freezing rain ice builds up at base of windshield then eventually ices up the wiper blades and not cleaning the windshield. The vehicle is not designed to handle winter and freezing rain conditions, after building vehicles for many years we should have a better wiper system. --blades should have electric heat wires in them, --maybe need completly electric windshield to handle snow/ice cond. -- the placement of the defroster vents are very poorly placed, they should be all across the base of the windshield. A couple of days ago we had freezing rain, blades were freezing up, heater defroster was at max heat, and fan was at max, I had to constantly pull over and scrape ice off. This is very dangerous situation be it ice or snow. Design engineers really dont seem to take the winter conditions into consideration in the design of vehicles. I have driven over 5 million kms during my career and used to dealing with many types of conditions. No accidents . Just want to bring these isdue to your attention. Iam extremely dissapointed in this unit because of this. Thanks dale r. Kutz dalekutz@telusplanet. Net athabasca alberta, canada.

The backup and surround view cameras repeatedly fail. I took it in once and they replaced the head unit. The problem reappeared within days after this repair. The design of this truck makes visibility without the cameras difficult at best and dangerous at worst.
Since purchase of this vehicle in Dec 2020, the rear camera vision has been intermittent. I originally thought it to be driver problem however I am now told that there is a module that needs to be replaced and it is not available and possibly not being manufactured at the present time. As a result the entire camera parking assist system is completely out of service with no information on when the module may be available to repair the issue. I believe this may be a safety issue as backing up into traffic be it parking lots or roadways, this equipment is an essential addition to safety to other vehicles and pedestrians.
Head lights are very dim making driving the vehicle at night very unsafe. Took vehicle to GMC dealer, tech said that head lights are within GMC specs. Too insane to drive this vehicle at night an accident or even death can occur. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly; 4 - VIN corrected, error in one position only (indicated by ! in suggested VIN), multiple matches found; 14 - unable to provide information for all the characters in the VIN. #vpic#.

I go through headlights every 6 months this last time, my driver side headlight got replaced and two days later it went out and the glass was shattered. I went and got new bulb and it did not work, after inspecting the the wiring we noticed it was burnt up and need replaced, GMC said it's on us. We have spoke with GMC about our engine burning oil which they are well aware of and the dealership tried to help but GMC refused to do anything my car send a signal telling me to turn off the car or starts miss firing every which way and gives codes saying I need new coils which is not the case. The air bag light goes off saying that there is someone in the passenger seat because the calibration get off, it took mcdaniel's to figure it out the other dealership blamed it on electronics. The windshield wiper fluid no longer comes out properly and needs something replaced so that it will go up on the windshield.

Front blower motor for defrost/heating/cooling system intermittently stops working. Seems to stop working more often in rain, snow, and cold. Has been a safety hazard, especially because defrost doesn't work and windshield fogs up. Very difficult to see. Believe that some older Acadia model years have a recall on the blower motor because it gets wet during rain and snow and no longer works. The 2012 Acadia has the same problem. Potentially getting wet through a fault in the sunroof?? (08312020rear blower continues to work. ).

I purchased my vehicle brand new off the truck in March of 2020 with zero miles on it. Feb 2021 in negative degree weather, the heat on my vehicle stopped working. I called my local gm dealership and they told me they needed to diagnosed the vehicle. They had kept my vehicle for two weeks trying to diagnose the vehicle. It turned out to be the thermostat. They replaced that part on my vehicle. Now Dec 2021 I again have experienced the same problem this time it was in a blizzard. Dealership told me it cant be the same problem, however it will be another two weeks before they can get my vehicle in for service and do not have a loaner vehicles for use. I purchased a new vehicle with warranty as I have two small children and am currently pregnant.
Shift to park is happening on the 2019. When in park, its not being sensed. Keeps saying shift to park. Took vehicle in they said 1/2 a day on 11/22. Turns out they need longer for part. They gave loaner, today is 12/4/19, still don't have car back yet. Also, back windshield wiper making a clicking sound.
Sunroof spontaneously shattered while on highway. No evidence of any rocks or external objects causing the glass to shatter.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased used back in 08/2009 water was leaking onto the passanger side when the vehicle made turns. The contact went to the dealer j & j motor sales 6524 lake michigan dr, allendale, mi 49401 (616) 895-5184 and they could not find any leaks or diagnose the issue. The contact also checked on their own but could not find out the source of where the leak was coming from. Recently the water had been collecting underneath where the blower fan was located on the passanger side and caused it to short out. The contact almost had an accident from the window no being able to be deforsted in the morning. The manufacturer had not been contacted yet. The failure milage was 176,000. Tf.
When you turn traction control on the entire car shakes. Windshield wiper fluid will not come out. Passenger window will not roll up from driver control. Tire pressure monitor system has been out for time. This car is not that old for it to have all these issues.

Tl the contact owns a 2007 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that he purchased the vehicle two months ago. On the first day, the vehicle had transmission failure and the transmission overheating indicator appeared. The vehicle started to slow down and sputter while driving. In addition, the vehicle had difficulty accelerating from a stop. While driving 75 mph, the transmission overheating indicator illuminated again. The contact had to pull over and allow the vehicle to idle for a while. The vehicle was taken to the car store of burley (1001 e main st, burley, id 83318, (208) 677-3800) and they stated that the contact overfilled the transmission fluid. The dealer drained and refilled the fluid. The contact also stated that the instrument cluster stopped working occasionally and was not repaired. The dealer test drove the vehicle and found no failure. In addition, the windshield wipers never worked and the driver and passenger side struts were faulty. Furthermore, the traction control was also malfunctioning. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 128,700.

I purchased a 2008 GMC Acadia and in the winter the wipers won't turn on, I live in eastern washington where we get a lot of snow and ice and I see your recall didn't include any part of wa state and I feel it should include eastern wa state. Our temps here get below 0 at times! I need my wipers to work all the time in this part of wa.

The dealer (moore GMC truck, 84 high st, danvers, MA 01923, (978) 774-0040) stated that the contact would have to pay for replacing the wiper motor since the warranty had expired. The contact claimed to have noticed the failure before the warranty expired. The dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer who offered a $100 credit toward the repair cost. While driving in heavy rains, the passenger's side windshield wiper stopped working on my 2015 GMC Acadia denali. The driver's side so far is still working. This occurred at the worst possible time in my area of massachusetts. We were experiencing heavy downpours and rain due to the remnants of hurricane florence. I contacted the GMC dealer, the associate advised it was not covered. I feel this is an extremely dangerous failure of safety on a vehicle that is only 3 years old. My visibility was diminished and luckily I was close to home. I did not feel safe driving because I didn't know when or if the other wiper would fail. I brought the vehicle to be serviced today.
Driving straight on freeway when rear panoramic sunroof exploded with the sound like a gunshot. The glass is shattered outward still with photos to show the outward explosion.

Windshield wipers won't work.
I have had to replace the headlight bulb and the day light bulbs 4 times since January. Each time I replace one the other goes out and it does't last longer than a few weeks. This is very dangerous and stressful as the headlights went out on me as I was driving home two nights ago and the road that I take to get home is very dark. Also, I had to replace the multi function switch (windshield wiper switch due to it only working on high speed) in January. I've noticed multiple people with the same complaints. Please fix this problem as buying bulbs are becoming expensive as well as the time it takes to get them replaced can be lengthy.
Back windshield shattered when trunk was closed using the power trunk door feature. One month later, the driver's side rear quarter panel window shattered when the trunk was closed using the power trunk door feature. Car was stationary in both instances.
Rear window shattered. And needed replacement. Vehicle was parked at a service station.
I had just picked up 250 pieces of chicken from giant eagle to feed the homeless at the ywca and placed the boxes in the back of my vehicle. As I drove down the street the window began to fog so I turned on the defrost. Within minutes of turning on the defrost, the window shattered into pieces. I ended up having to throw away over 100 pieces of chicken, but luckily no one was hurt. I have called the dealership and filed a complaint with the corporate office, but they say they cannot assist. After speaking with candice at GMC, @866-790-3600 ext 5923331, I was told that the extended warranty I purchased does not cover glass. I bough the car used almost a year ago, purchased the extended warranty to replace the bumper to bumper coverage, so why doesn't it cover glass? what is even more frightening to me is how does a window just shatter? this is a defect that needs to be address and this should be covered by GMC. I have researched and found that this has happened in other GMC vehicles and perhaps this needs to be a class action law suit before it will be properly addressed.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, she would experience intermittent headlight failure without warning. The contact took the vehicle to gold star Buick GMC 1980 n davis rd, salinas, CA 93907 and was informed that the headlight failure was due to faulty connection; she was also informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000 . Jo.
The passenger wiper blade does not cover sufficient area of the windshield to permit the passenger to see the 'right' portion of the road. The unwiped area accumulates dirt and adds to the visual obstruction of falling rain. An unbelievable visual distortion of the road results. I am 70 and am appalled at the lack of wiper coverage in a critical portion of the windshield for the passenger. Most passengers assist the driver in the safe operation of the vehicle by calling attention to impending problems. Their contribution is limited in this vehicle due to the poor wiper coverage of the passenger side. The portion of the car above the bottom of the windshield was moved in on the sides of the car by design change. The normal swath of the passenger wiper for a full width car doesl not work with this redesign. The passenger wiper pivot point should be closer to the front of the passenger and wipe to the right edge of the windshield. Help !!! this wiper situation is really awful, unnecessary, and fatiguing to the passenger. The a, b, and c sections of the windshield were selected for the specifications when we had full windshields going to the right and left sides of car. Now that the edges of the windshield has been moved in, the specification coverage for the passenger is not sufficient. Thanks for listening and hopefully, you can do something . . . . We hate driving this car in the rain.
The contact owns a 2012 GMC Acadia. While driving approximately 35 mph in the rain, the windshield wipers only worked at the highest setting. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
Water leak into the ac- blower fan, the major safety issue here is the front defroseter wont be working simply cause the fan stops working due to it being submerged in water. This issue has been noted by many users and requires investigation, I believe. . Read more...

The chrome trim around the vents above the center navigation screen display are made of a mirror finish chrome unlike the matte trim that surrounds the navigation screen. When one is driving and the sun is approximately directly overhead, the sun reflects off the chrome trim and due to the angle of the trim, is reflects directly into the driver's eyes. As one cannot really change anything while driving during this period to block the reflection the driver is constantly been distracted with the sun reflection of the mirror like trim that is shinning in the driver's eyes.
