1 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

I had been driving for 15-20 miles both on and off the highway and the vehicle stopped fine. I was traveling at about 60 mph and was coming up on highway traffic that was at a standstill . I stepped on the brake peddle and it went strait to the floor, absolutely no brakes at all and no even a hint this was about to happen. I was able to swerve out of the way, narrowly missing the vehicle in front of me, and used the transmission and e brake to get the vehicle stopped on a grassy shoulder. Had a vehicle been next to me or a less experienced driver been behind the wheel, it may have been a much worse outcome . I know at least 10 people who own similar vehicles and everyone has had a brake line failure at some point. Gm needs to step up and cover this before someone else get hurt or killed!.

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

I connected my camper to the truck. Proceeded toward the street driving on the driveway. I applied the brake and felt a thump at my foot that's was applying the brake. The brake pedal went slowly to the floor. I was able to stop, looked under the truck and noticed brake fluid flowing from underneath the truck. Apon inspection my brake lines were totally rusted. The truck is in the repair facility as I write the complaint. The truck body is in great shape except for the brake lines. Better regulations need to be met regarding brake line. Please help.

2002 GMC sierra 2500hd 4x4 4dr complete brake failure when moving vehicle at hunt camp. Brake pedal went completely to floor. Rusted brake lines blew under drivers door location. Local mechanic replaced lines from master cyl. To abs device. My step dad came and got my trailer and we hauled my truck back to his place. My dad and step dad started looking at it and my entire brake line is rusted out? I have noticed several websites stating numerous incidents and recalls? I need help!.

7 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 08/27/2012

I had an unexpected brake failure caused by the rust through of the brake line under the driver seat. It was fortunate that I was in a parking lot and going at a slow speed at the time. I had to replace the entire brake line system as there was rust on all the lines. The repair cost was $741. 89. I have had other gm vehicles, and have never experienced this type of failure before.

8 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 05/02/2012

I was driving my 03 sierra, approaching a stoplight at a busy intersection when I applied the brakes. The truck began to slow at first but then the peddle immediately went completely to the floor. I began to pump it but there was no response. I was heading toward the intersection, the light was red, with busy cross traffic. The street I was on is narrow and steep and I began to pick up speed. I shifted the trans into the lowest gear and stepped on the emergency brake. The truck finally came to a stop in the middle of the intersection, as oncoming cars luckily avoided hitting me. When I went to my mechanic to arrange to have the truck towed, he knew immediately what the problem was. He told me, sight unseen, that the brake line under the driver's side had ruptured. Later, upon inspection, he was correct. He also told me that this was a very common problem with that year. He replaced the line and I thought that had solved the problem; until two days ago. Again, I am driving down a hill and the same thing happened. I was towing a very large trailer this time and the emergency brake had little affect. Luckily, there was little traffic and I was able to ride it out without incident. I have since discovered that this is a problem with not only the 03 year but 4 or 5 years prior also. Another mechanic told me that the entire system of lines should be replaced since gm used a uncoated steel which begins to be compromised within just a few years where salt is heavily used in this area. It is obvious that gm used uncoated steel instead of coated or stainless to save a few dollars. Had my 17 year old son been driving, the outcome could have been disastrous. This is only one of many problems I have had with this truck. Another is erroneous speedometer readings. I will address these in another post.

9 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 09/30/2011

Brake line failure due to rust on lines.

10 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 09/30/2011

On 09-30-2011 as I left my residence I got approximately one block away and started down a small but steep hill that intersects with an other subdivision street. At that intersection there is a stop sign, when I applied the brakes to slow for the stop sign the brake pedal went to the floor. I tried pumping the brakes and still had very little to no brakes. There were no other vehicle in the area, and was able to gear down and ended up slowing going into the intersection where I finally got the vehicle stopped. I was able to get the truck back to the house by going very slow in low gear and using the parking brake. Upon parking the truck and inspecting the system, found the brake fluid level was low. Upon further inspection I found fluid on the ground under the drives seat area. On checking I found the brake lines in the area of the brake controller area were extremely rusted and the line going to the rear brakes had rusted through. I will have all the brake lines to and from the brake controller replaced this week due to the extremely poor condition of the lines from the rust.

Brake line failure.

13 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

Fortunately I was in my driveway when my brake pedal went to the floor. I had it towed and the mechanic replaced a line. He went for a road test and another line blew out. This was fixed and I was told that all of the lines look bad and it would be $700 to replace all and this seemed to be common on the chevy and GMC trucks. This truck is garage kept - why would all of the brake lines be bad? this is a GMC sierra 2500hd extended cab 4wd truck.

14 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 09/17/2010

On 9/17/2010 while on my way to work I was cut off by another vehicle when I applied my brakes and the system went into abs mode the vehicle stopped. However after that stop I lost brake pedal pressure. After checking the vehicle I found that the brake line blew out as a result of the stop. I found that the brake line had split. The vehicle I was driving is a 2003 GMC sierra 2500 hd.

18 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 09/18/2009

Driving in a single lane portion of i80 at the 97 mile post. A tractor trailer made a rolling stop at the on ramp and scared the driver in front of me. The lady hit her brakes hard. I naturally did the same only my pedal went to the floor as I had two rusted brake lines, one front and one rear, blow at the same time. I managed to swerve and get between the other pickup and the tractor trailer only hitting the passenger side mirror on the other pickup. I had to use the emergency brake to finally stop and had to have my truck hauled home. I can not believe that from the number of these brake line failures listed on the internet and after talking with my garage about the number of these gm trucks that have had the brake lines fail that nothing has been done about it. I have two other vehicles both older and with more miles on them with brake lines no where near as bad as the ones on my truck.

19 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

Brake line rupture, 2003 GMC sierra 2500hd pickup. Total loss of braking while stopping for traffic at 60 mph. All lines were rotted and had to replaced. Crash was avoided because other cars realized I had lost braking and moved out the way. Did not report until now(Dec 2010) because I thought it was an isolated incident. Now finding out that it is prevalent, so much, that I have warned friends about it and am finding it to be quite common.

20 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 12/19/2008

I was driving my 2001 GMC 2500 hd truck down the road to lock in the 4wd due to a heavy snow storm in the north east. When I got to the end of the road and applied the brakes the anti lock brakes kicked in (brake pedal pulsing) then the pedal went to the floor. I had to hit the gas to prevent being hit in the drivers door due to going through the stop sign with no brakes. I did call the dealer that I bought the truck from they said that the brake lines are not covered under gm warranty or recalls and would cost over $1000 to replace all brake lines. I find this to be a serious safety issue for a truck with only 97000 miles on it. I would hope gm would step up and cover all cost for this repair.

22 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 12/13/2005

No incident yet. . . Extensive rust on brake lines near engine. . . Also excessive rust pitting on brake rotors. Gm dealer says caused by salt. . Truck is 2000 model with less than 60,000 miles. I am afraid brake lines may rupture prematurely due to excessive rust and pitting. Independent mechanics verify my feelings.

23 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC C2500

Failure Date: 05/08/2003

The brake line failed, which caused the vehicle to experience extended stopping distance. The brake line contained a bend, which was susceptible to being snagged. The consumer repaired the brake line himself.
