GMC Canyon owners have reported 5 problems related to car stall (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Canyon based on all problems reported for the Canyon.
1. "theft deterrent" illuminates and truck will not start. Have to wait 10 minutes with key in the "acc" position and then it starts. Happens often at least 2 times a week. Also, while I am driving the "theft deterrent" illuminates at least 4 times a week while highway driving but luckily the truck does not stall or stop.

The truck experiences engine stutter at low idle (>1000rpms) varying from 1000 rpms to 200 rpms with felt loss of power steering at low rpms. At lower rpms, typically at stops or low idle turns, the truck will stall with loss of power steering and brake control (tappig the brake equals slamming the brake). Recently, the issue is now becoming more frequent and now occurring while making low idle turns into traffic causing a stall. The only resolution is to drop the truck in neutral, in traffic, and restart hoping the bump start will occur on the first try before being hit from behind. I have called gm service shops, the service center in detroit as well as looked for recalls online and there are no official postings or knowledge of these problems despite numerous individual accounts found in GMC/chevy forums. This issue is a dangerous issue in my opinion and needs to be addressed.

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning while turning at unknown speeds. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times but the failure could not be replicated. The dealer cleaned the engine and fuel wiring system. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer advised that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number 09v154000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was 26,272 and the current mileage was 30,000. Mah.
Notified jof defect by GMC that engine intake valve seats are subject to abnormal wear, possibly resulting in misfiring and rough engine idling. They did not issue a recall, merely advising owners to take car to dealer if problem occurs. I maintain this is a safety issue. What if the misfire ignites the air filter? what if the vehicle stalls in traffic? what about pollution and cafe issues?.

: the contact stated while driving 50 mph on a highway on-ramp, the vehicle stalled completely. The vehicle was able to be restarted after 20 minutes. A service dealer was contacted, who stated that the vehicle would have had to have been brought in before it was restarted in order to diagnose the problem. Subsequently, the vehicle was not taken in for service. Updated 12/5/2006 -.
