2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 02/24/2026

Upper radiator hose connection to radiator is faulty causing leak of coolant. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. Truck began to run cooling fan at full speed in the middle of winter with no warnings of high heat or low coolant. After two weeks, check engine light finally cut on to indicate low coolant flow. Coolant reservoir was subsequently checked and found to be completely empty. It is apparent this reservoir had been extremely low / empty for at least two weeks with no warnings. Without proper warning and leaking coolant, truck could have overheated. Should this had happened in dead of summer, truck could have very well overheated with no warning. The problem was investigated and confirmed by dealer as leaking coolant at the connection of the upper radiator hose to the radiator. Was quoted $983 to replace the hose. No warning lights appeared until issue had been ongoing for over two weeks. A quick search of "GMC Canyon upper radiator hose" will reveal many identical occurrences of this issue. This is a safety hazard / design flaw that gm is not acknowledging and is putting the burden on the vehicle owners for their own issue.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 01/19/2026

There are widespread reports of the o ring seals on the radiator and heater hoses failing and causing coolant leaks. These leaks are significant enough to render the vehicle inoperable and with no cabin heating or cooling. This could lead to life-threatening situations in adverse weather conditions. It could also create dangerous roadside failure situation in heavy traffic, particularly on interstate highways. Dealers are aware of the issue and are currently repairing vehicles under warranty. However some dealers are telling owners that the cooling system is not part of the engine and drivetrain, and therefor is not covered under the original factory warranty if the vehicle has exceeded the initial bumper to bumper warranty limits. Dealers are also telling owners that parts are on backorder due to high demand, and that repair wait times could take weeks. The vehicle is unsafe to operate with a known coolant leak. Video of leak (another owner) here. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 01/15/2026

The upper radiator hose on some huge percentage of these trucks fail (mine has failed at just over 37k miles). You can check the colorado chevy and GMC Canyon forums, youtube, facebook, etc. , et al, and find plenty of instances where this has failed. As this is the cooling system, it can cause the engine to overheat and potentially ruin the engine. The flaw seems to be an engineering issue with the rubber seal they use (instead of a high quality o-ring) to seal the upper hose to the radiator. Additionally, since this can cause engine failure it should be addressed immediately. Instead, my local chevy dealer, since its not a recall item, said they could schedule a time next week for me to leave the truck and that I am responsible for the repair. This is extremely unfair to the consumer who depends on these vehicles. This should absolutely be a recall item. You can find 1000's of examples online and if you can pull gm repair data, I'm sure you'll find 1000's more.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 01/02/2026

Upper radiator hose attachment is leaking due to faulty rubber gasket. This comes up across GMC Canyon groups on facebook 10 times a day. It is happening to all of them mainly pre 2025 on 3rd gens. Part is on back order at all GMC dealers due to so much volume of issue. Happening as early as 10k-20k miles on brand new trucks causing over heating issues due to coolant leaking out. Hopefully a recall for the part is done before engines start blowing.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 12/30/2025

Truck began idling very rough. Went straight to the dealership. They shut the truck off and it would not restart. No cel or messages on the dash. Tear down reveled a failed exhaust valve in cylinder #4. Truck has 10,000 miles. A replacement engine has been ordered under warranty. Luckily, we happened to only be a few miles from a dealership when the failure happened. There was no warning, no prior symptoms what so ever.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 12/16/2025

Noticed a coolant leak on drivers side and took to dealership was told was the upper radiator hose but was unable to make repairs due to national backorder and only suggestion was to drive until parts come in and keep a check on the coolant level, my truck only has 28,708 miles and shouldn't have to keep an eye on coolant level I feel that is very unsafe.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 12/02/2025

The upper radiator hose on a significant number of these trucks is failing prematurely. In my case, the failure occurred at just over 35,000 miles. Numerous reports on owner forums (such as the colorado chevy / GMC Canyon forum), youtube, and other platforms document the same issue, indicating this is not an isolated incident but a widespread defect. Because this hose is part of the cooling system, its failure can quickly lead to engine overheating and potentially catastrophic engine damage. The root cause appears to be an engineering flaw in the sealing method: gm uses a rubber seal instead of a durable, high-quality o?ring to connect the upper hose to the radiator. Despite the seriousness of this defect, my local GMC dealer informed me that—since it is not currently a recall item—they could only schedule service for the following week, requiring me to leave the truck with them for 7–10 days before repairs would be completed. This is unreasonable for consumers who rely on these vehicles daily. Given the safety implications and the potential for engine failure, this issue warrants immediate attention. It should be classified as a recall item. Thousands of examples are already documented online, and gm’s own repair data would likely reveal thousands more instances of this same failure.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 12/02/2025

Upper radiator hose leaks where it connects to radiator. 40k miles and my truck has no coolant.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 11/06/2025

I've noticed an issue since I picked up my vehicle from its last service where the rpms stay around 1,000 when I let off the gas and should be coasting. The vehicle will continue to accelerate at 11 to 13 mph, and I really have to mash the brake pedal to stop. There is an update notice that popped up starting yesterday, but it will not install. Looks like the update is for the issue I am having. The update was supposed to be installed already per the service bulletin. Update number is n242452130.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 10/14/2025

Upper radiator hose o ring defect causing all 2023+ chevorlet colorados and 2023+ GMC to leak coolant in a brand new truck.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

2024 GMC Canyon elevation trim 4x4 with 31,000 miles on it always had maintenance every 5k interval. I noticed an upper radiator hose leak significant enough to require a decent amount of coolant and decided to take it in to GMC to get it repaired. Mind you this repair is almost $1,000 to get repaired with the hose itself only costing $148. It's disappointing to have such a new truck and have these kinds of problems and upon research there seems to be several others with the same problem relating to an o ring in the upper radiator hose. Considering the truck is routinely serviced more frequently than required I see this as an issue for someone to run out of coolant and possibly be stranded on the side of the road if gone unnoticed and needs to be properly addressed ASAP.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

The contact owns a 2020 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while her son was attempting to park the vehicle in a parking garage, there was a loud screeching sound coming from the vehicle while depressing the brake pedal. The contact's son used excessive force to depress the brake pedal, and an unknown warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where the vehicle was diagnosed with a vacuum pump failure, which caused the end of the cam shaft to fracture. The contact called several dealers and was informed that the cam shaft was on backorder. The contact stated that one of the dealers stated that the failure was a common issue resulting in the part being on backorder. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The contact was informed that only the NHTSA could place a recall on the vehicle. The cam shaft and vacuum pump had been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The VIN was not available.

The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,263.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 06/11/2025

Propulsion of vehicle. Truck lost power as I was trying to pull into traffic at an intersection. Yes, it was confirmed by the dealer; truck was returned after 3 incidents. Gm has been inspected the truck. Yes: check engine light immediately came on, and a comment then stated onscreen: "caution. Your vehicle has lost power and is operating at a reduced capacity". First occasion, truck was approx 6 months old. Second was 1 month later. Third and dangerous incident occurred June 11th 2025. Dealer keeps saying the truck is ok. Failure to propel keeps happening. Service supervisor tells me truck needs a new module, but gm won't approve it. Truck is still at the dealer, and issue has been escalated twice. Truck still at dealer.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 02/06/2025

Vehicle whole system was non existent. No interior lighting, no door chime when opened, no response. Mechanic took a look and found alternator not good. It’s not charging the battery and advised me to tow it to warranty repair shop. Advised me if I were driving and vehicle died I would not have power or control of vehicle and cause serious injury or death. Lucky I was parked at home and attempted to start vehicle to leave home. No repairs done yet, vehicle is still at home waiting for an appointment.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 12/20/2024

Our 2023 Canyon at4 we bought on June 28 2023 had the same problem as this current VIN number of the 2023 Canyon ( covert GMC in bee caves TX bought back the first 2023 Canyon due to this same exact transmission problem. The vehicle I’m complaining about that was replaced by covert GMC in bee caves texas on December 20 2023 still has a unsafe issue with the transmission. I’m 68 years old and I am handicapped. Almost every time I pull into a handicapped designated parking spot, from right or left approach, this vehicle lunges as I get close to the sign post. It occurs at red lights occasionally. This current replacement vehicle has been in for warranty several time . . Only to the same excuse that they can’t duplicate. Common denials don not fix the safety issue with this truck. It’s dangerous.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 11/07/2024

On 2 occasions the battery was drained and a tow truck had to jump the battery. On one occasion after the battery was jump started it took several hours before the brakes were able to be used and the car driven safely. Had to drive very slowly (under 50 mph) per note that appeared on dashboard. After nearly an hour of waiting engine light stayed on and dealership ran diagnostic and found nothing wrong with the battery nor anything else. Have to start and run engine everyday to keep battery from dying. If not started in 24 to 36 hours, battery will die.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 10/30/2024

Where to begin. . . As I bought my first truck, literally within 10 days after buying the GMC Canyon 2024, the car is shaking uncontrollably on the highway. . . 35 mph max speed, extremely dangerous situation, 8 am on a busy watterson expressway in louisville, ky. I was so scared I was going to crash and potentially get hurt or worse. They told me "they had never seen this happen to a Canyon before" which is obviously a lie. The car was serviced for 21 calendar days, and now my lights are spotty and I can't drive my car at night. I got this truck [xxx]. There was no communication on when it was to be ready. There are issues with a lot of minor things as well like the navigation systems. I have logged every call with the dealership, courtesy Buick GMC in louisville as well as summarized every point of contact, and with very spotty responses and the manager, frank, wont respond to my emails and was extremely uncooperative as I asked to trade it in as I was genuinely concerned about my safety and he told me absolutely not. 29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 10/22/2024

My 2018 GMC Canyon just underwent repairs due to a crack in the head gasket. A serious issue which resulted in having to take said GMC Canyon to a mechanic before further damage to the engine could be suffered. My truck only had a measly 76,000 miles. Definitely, something GMC should take a look into. I however was fortunate enough to notice abnormal loss in the coolant reservoir before suffering excessive overheating or potentially an engine fire. At such a low mileage as well as the nature this issue GMC should take pride in ensuring reliability and care for the customers that experienced this manufacturing defect.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 09/27/2024

Since I purchased this Canyon in 2019, I've had many occurrences (at least twice a week) of the truck not starting. Through my research on line, I've found other Canyon owners experiencing the same problem. Long story short, the ignition locks and the truck cannot be started unless I wait 10 minutes. This problem interferes with my daily life. I believe GMC should correct this problem.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 07/27/2024

On [xxx] at approximately 5:30p, I was driving normal highway speed when I saw what I thought was exhaust trailing behind. There were no dash warning lights, engine temperature showing normal range, car was performing normally. I pulled over to shoulder, turned off car, released the hood latch. My husband tried to open hood but it was too hot. We then realized it was smoke coming from under hood, not exhaust. Smoke began to come inside car through vents. I quickly exited the car, and within a minute the entire front end engine area was engulfed in flames. 911 was called, fire, police, highway patrol responded. Fortunately there was no injury to myself or husband. There was also concern of starting a brushfire risk here in socal, but it was all extinguished thoroughly. Truck was towed to al’s towing, 475 w vermont Ave, escondido CA 92025, ph 760-745-5933. A report has been filed with our insurance usaa, inspection by adjuster is pending. I also notified temecula GMC, where I purchased vehicle from, of the incident. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 02/01/2024

At approximately 92k miles the diesel high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) failed, all internal seals were disintegrated (technician's verbage). This is apparently a common problem (but no recall was ever issued), which can lead to premature engine failure due to sending foreign material into the engine. This pump was replaced, however the new pump failed, after 2 days, and required replacement again, may 2023. The total cost for this was $6200. At 100,450 miles my engine blew up while driving, 01 Feb 2024. There is a very good chance that when the hpfp pump had failed, 10 months earlier, it in fact send foreign material into the engines cylinders which might have led up to this catastrophic failure. Fortunately, I was on a rural street travelling at about 20 miles an hour, and not on the highway travelling at 70 miles an hour, like I was 10 minutes before this happened. When the engine blew it sent pieces of cast iron flying out the bottom of the truck, on a highway this could have seriously damaged vehicles travelling behind me. When it blew I also lost all 'propulsion', the truck immediately began coasting to a stop, had this happened at high speeds it would have been extremely dangerous because without the engine running the brakes lose pressure, plus the oil leaking out could have caused a loss of traction. From what I have found, while researching online, these 2. 8l diesel engines have a fairly high failure rate (often being referred to as "a bomb just waiting to explode"), especially the hpfp, which might be part of the reason the general motors discontinued using this engine in 2022. I feel that a recall should be done on all current 2. 8l duramax engines to do a complete inspection and replace all suspect components, as well as to reimburse those of us who were placed in harms way when our engines blew up on the road, due to gm's neglect.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 01/29/2024

The truck smokes constantly, dash board faulty frame has a problem I suspect the engine head gasket is blown radio constantly needs adjusting seats look as if they may be separating from the floor terrible fuel consumption gear shift sticks and more and battery charging problem.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 01/18/2024

2 weeks ago I was driving on the highway doing 65 mile per hour and suddenly my truck started shaking and. Suddenly completely shut down lost power brakes stiffed and steering wheel as well. I safely pulled over to try to restart the vehicle and on my dash board light came on engine, tcm light and a light with a little car with hash marks called dealer the technician said it was a ecm. Problem and that am looking at a price of 7,000 dollars which is not in my budget reaching out to see if is maybe a manufacturing issue.
