Alternator/generator/regulator problems of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Six problems related to alternator/generator/regulator have been reported for the 2003 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2018

The electric wiring for the windows and side mirrors will start making a clicking noise and when I put the key into the ignition and turn the key just one turn the front passenger window goes completely down and will not go back up until it is done clicking and turning the heated seats on and off. The regulator is not broke. Also the side mirrors even though they are programmed will sometimes just start moving and act like it cant move anymore and make a noise. The music and or radio will go out while its turned on, it will cut in and out and then after driving a while it wont cut in and out. For the window to just roll down it usually happens after it sat all night. Wont go back up for at least 2 minutes and you can see the door lights flicker and click.

2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2018

The lights come on by themselves and drains the battery. Two batteries have been installed. The car has had road service jump starts 3 times in 2 wks. The lights come on themselves when they'r'e off. The alternator was checked and is good. The vehicle was parked in a garage when this occurred and 1 time in a parking lot.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

Car dies when driving, car wont start sometimes and hour or 2 later starts mechanic said alternator and battery are good, in parking lot and driving in the city.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

My gm provided replacement battery (replaced at 80,000 miles three and 1/2 years ago) failed with another dead cell. The warning signs were random: a "security" warning light on the dashboard, the window safety lock became inoperable, windows wouldn't sometimes open or close, alternator wouldn't charge and the radio was locked, etc. . My golden retriever/dog could have been choked by the electric window control as she stands on the armrest with her head out the half open window. Instead, we were very lucky in that the window opened all of the way instead and she didn't fall out. This window control is the toggle type, pre the safety ones. The original equipment battery also failed with a dead cell.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2009

I purchased my 2003 GMC Envoy xl in 2008 from a NY dealer with 60,000 miles on it, the car didn't register any accidents with carfax. The day after I purchased the car my battery went dead and I was stranded at 7am with my kids. The dealer paid for the tow and replaced the battery. A year later while driving to my sons basketball game at night, the headlights completely shut off. I pulled over and used my hazards, my son inspected the lights and could smell something was burning. . The driver side headlight wire was burnt badly. We replaced the light and the wiring. The next day not only did the lights shut off again while driving at night, but I couldn't put my window up! the driver side window panel did not work, but the other windows worked fine. I paid $400 to have the panel replaced. (now the seat adjustment panel is not working on the driver side) the battery has been replaced 3 times in 3 years! when ever I would use the window, or the heat vent, or the charger inlets in my car the headlights would flicker dim. My mechanic did a amps check while my phone was plugged in,car was running, radio on, and heater on and stated the amps were fine, until I hit the window button, then the amps went way down. Cost to replace alternator $350. 00, that was in 2010, so far in 2011 I have awoken 3 mornings in a row to a dead car. I sat in the car with car off, doors locked one night to see what goes on over night. . Well the alarm sensor button didnt stop blinking red, the seat adjustments kept moving every 4 mins, the rearview mirrors were moving non stop, and the horrible beeping sound inside the car was non stop! the radio dash didnt shut off either, it was piping hot after a half hour of sitting.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2003

We have had several problems from the rear windows in the rear of the vehicle. The regulators have broken allowing the window to fall down into the door. This usually happens a bad time such as in a storm. The dealer has replaced the regulator. The brake light has been replaced several times for failure to work properly. The dealer has replaced the circuit board twice. The four wheel drive switch would shut off after you tried to put it back into 2-wheel drive. The dealer replaced a faulty switch. Several times the engine would stall and the instrument panel would go crazy. Now, the car is sitting in my yard and will not start. When you turn the ignition, the instrument panel shows that there is 40 pounds of oil pressure and the mph is 90 and the car is not even running. The dic says that the brake system needs servicing.
