Failure Date: 05/18/2011

Purchased a 2003 Envoy in November of 2010 at around 86000 miles in one month the instrument panel went out so no speedometer and affected the oil gauge. At exactly 100,000 miles the driiver door panel went out could smell wires burning. Called dealer where purchased to trade in on vehicle in working order and he was able to find parts from junk yard to repl. Ace. I was also informed the problems I had have become an epidemic for all GMC vehicles and people are spending a small fortutne getting them repaired. Just want to advise anyone reading this to stop buying anything made my GMC because they do not stand behind their faul;ty products nor does the government make them.

4 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

Problems is associated with the instrument panel gauges. Specifically with the rpm gauge. It reflects erratic rpm's when it first started the needle would raise to between 5-6k rpms when at idle, after approx 2 weeks it would reset itself to normal, approx 2-3 weeks later it would register approx 6-7k rpms then reset itself once again to normal. Now it is pegged all the way around and pointing due south, it attempts to reset itself but will not. I am also seeing erratic indications on the fuel gauge. On the edmunds Envoy forum there are quite a few Envoy owners that are having the same problems, some are having speedometer level problems. Was in connect with GMC representative and she could/would not help since my vehicle was out of warranty. I even suggested that they pay at least 1/2 the cost of repairs. I believe this a component failure and could possibly become a safety issue especially with the speedometer and gas gauge problems. The probability of also having speedometer failure in the near future is pretty good bet.

2003 GMC Envoy. The speedometer only works intermittently. It may stick in one spot. Other times it is consistently off by a given speed. The next day it may be working fine. This has been going on for over a year and seems to be occurring more frequently as the vehicle ages. The internet is littered with others all having the same issue. . Read more...

While driving on the freeway, my speedometer said I was going slow, so I started to speed up, when I felt I was going to fast and moved to the offramp to slow down, the reading dropped to zero. It worked intermittently for a month and now doesn't work at all but a flicker every now and then.

The odometer has been malfunctioning for 2 years it will work and sometimes it will not. I would be going in speeds of over 50mph and the odometer would read 20mph. Or I would go about 30mph it would read100mph or over. It will erratically do this. Sometimes it works fine. I have not fixed the problem yet. It is working right now.

10 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2009

2003 GMC Envoy with 65,000 miles I have a speedometer that is erratic in reading speed. Gets stuck at 35 mph as "0" or registers -10 mph from actual speed. This problem varies from one to the other every time I restart the engine. I also have a weird clicking sound that comes from the dash area on occasion.

11 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2009

I own a 2003 GMC Envoy. Two years ago the speedometer started sticking. It now does not keep the speed at all. My rpm (when in park) will rev up to 2 or 3rpm, my gas gauge has now started to sometimes not show I have any gas, the check engine light is on almost all the time, my air conditioner will blow out the back vent and barely come out of the front vent when I have it up full blast. And to top it off my back brake lights constantely burn out. . I have read numerous forums where many people are having some of these same issues but no recall. I don't understand that at all. I definitely think these bad instrument panels call for a recall!! this is a safety issue. I eventually had to cut a hole in the plastic over the speedometer and before it quit completely working when we would go on vacation, we would have to pull over on busy highways every 20 minutes or so to set the speedometer back to zero so it wouldn't show me going 120mph. Of course I can't even do that now. I'm just amazed I haven't ended up with a ticket for my speed or my running or brake lights. We have taken the Envoy in to the shop and they told us we would have to take the car in to a gm dealer. I have to take it back in this week to have air worked on and who knows how much that will cost. I don't believe I should be responsible to pay over $500 for parts and labor in a car that is clearly defective and should be recalled. Please help!!.

15 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2008

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy, and the speedometer is broken. Due to research on the web I'm seeing numerous people having the same issue. I have put a call into gm they are total ignorant (&*(*_*. This is a safety issue and not something I broke on my own or wore out. I have less than 70,000 miles on my vehicle. I called last year when it happened and the lady was one rude !@#$%!! now this is a major problem. I have to get it fixed for inspection and it's not going to pass with it broken. I have no real income both my husband and I are unemployed!! so where is the money coming from? a credit card I can't pay off to begin with. Our taxes bailed them out, the least they can do is provide a safe vehicle, and the speedometer is not safe. I shouldn't have to pay for defective merchandise/parts!!! help the poor folk here!!! this is a safety problem. It needs to be taken care of at their cost not the poor struggling class of people!!!!.
