Other Fuel System Pump problems of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Five problems related to other fuel system pump have been reported for the 2003 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. While the vehicle was in the garage and while driving, the odor of fuel was present. The vehicle would also shudder and hesitate while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 145,000.

2 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2015

Fuel pump module corrosion causing leaking fuel and fuel vapors from the top of the fuel tank. This is due to a design defect as the fuel pump module sits lower than the highest point of the fuel tank and moisture and debris accumulate on top of the fuel pump module. The top of the module is not manufactured with appropriate rust-proofing measures and the materials used leave it prone to rusting and failure, compromising the seal and allowing fuel to escape from the tank. This poses a fire hazard, especially if fuel is able to reach heated exhaust pipes, etc. I took my vehicle into a a GMC dealership and was denied repair of the vehicle or reimbursement for repair. There was a special coverage for this vehicle that has since expired, proving that gm is / was aware of the problem. Given the numerous complaints of this exact same issue, this should be escalated to recall status due to the inherent safety issue and fire risk.

3 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2015

The fuel inlet seal on the top of the fuel tank had separated causing a smell of fuel and allowing matter to enter the fuel tank from the top. . . Possibly causing the premature failing of the fuel pump. We understand GMC has extended the warranty on the vehicle for this issue to 150,000 miles. Our vehicle had over 155,000 miles when the problem occured but we never received notification from GMC of the extended warranty. Had we received this notification we would have taken in the vehicle for an immediate repair. The fuel pump failed and we had to purchase a new fuel tank (as a result of the faulty top seal) and fuel pump. . . Costing us almost $1,700. We have a copy of the repair bill but I am unable to scan and upload it here at this time. . . I am in the military and will be moving to korea in April, 2016.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

I started experiencing a strong smell of gasoline while driving and when the vehicles was shut down. When I first noticed the odor I could not see any visible leaks under the vehicle, after about a week I started noticing drips of fuel under the vehicle. I crawled under the vehicle to find the leak and noticed a very fine spray of gasoline coming from the top of the tank. I then dropped the fuel tank and noticed that tube from the fuel pump was corroded to the point that it was spraying gasoline while under pressure. The fuel pump is located in a low point on the top of the tank which allows for road debris/salt and water to sit and erode these tubes on the top of the fuel pump. This is a very dangerous problem as all it would take is any form of ignition to cause an uncontrollable fire. Gm should be required to repair this under a mandated recall due to the severity of this problem.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2014

Where the top of the nesk of the fuel tank meets the fuel pump it is broken where the 2 meet. Fuel vapors, as well as actual fuel leaking on the ground r both present. Stationary , as well as, in motion.
