Ten problems related to check engine light on have been reported for the 2004 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Stopped at street like, light went green started to move forward and car goes dead. No lights on dash, nothing showing, just stops abruptly. After a few moments tried restarting car and it came back on with check engine light. P0606 pcm failure code displayed. Could have been rear ended by semi truck behind me or killed if I was trying to turn left at intersection.
I purchased the vehicle March of 2014 from sunset motors in coeur d alene, id. The following day the car died and I took it back to the dealer where they told me the fuel pump needed replaced; which they replaced. I left the dealership after the repair was completed and filled my gas tank when I began to smell a strong odor of gas. I pulled away from the pump and looked under the vehicle to see gas leaking from what appeared to be the fuel tank. I took it back to the dealership and they said that the neck of the gas tank was cracked and they would repair it. I left with the vehicle after sunset motors stated the repair was done on the gas tank. The check engine light came on the following day. The code was reading p0455 large evap leak. I have tried replacing the gas cap as recommended by autozone where I took the vehicle to have the code read. The light continued to come on over the course of months. I recently took it to aamco after my vehicle started vibrating while in idle where they informed me that the crack in the neck of the fuel tank was still apparent and fuel tank needed replaced. After doing research I have found this is a common problem for this vehicle and gm had offered to extend the warranty when research into safety was done previously which was accepted and no recall was done. Gm has stated the warranty has expired. I feel that the leak in the neck of the fuel tank is a manufactures defect as there is no known reason for a crack to happen in the fuel tank. Like I said previously I have found numerous reports of this happening to others with the same vehicle. I feel that it is a safety concern and fear the possibilities of what could happen to my vehicle with myself and young children in the vehicle until I am able to afford to replace the fuel tank. I would appreciate this being looked in to and the safety around the defect.
I will cut the car on and reduced engine power light comes on and the car idols hard then cuts off while driving . I read on internet alit of gm vehicles have this problem just wondering is there a recall? also check engine light and reduced engine power light will not cut off.
2004 GMC Envoy xuv dies when in drive and stopped for stop light, stop sign, etc. When the gas is applied, the car dies and I tie up traffic while having to shift to park, restart the engine, and then shift to drive and proceed through the intersection. It never dies while driving, only at a stop. I have had this car to the dealer numerous times and, because there is no "code" , they don't know what to do to fix it. The car also has a gas tank that is cracked at the neck and causes the check engine light to be on all the time. The dealership assures me that this is not a safety concern nor does the gas tank crack have anything to do with the engine dying. There is no gas leak but air does get into the tank causing the light to stay on. The throttle body has been cleaned and the entire emission system has also been checked and no one can figure out what the problem is. Dealership also says that the gas tank problem is quite common but that there is no recall. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Why not?????? the main computer module was replaced and this has been happening since then.
My GMC Envoy stalls out when I stop at traffic lights. I then have to put it in park to restart the vehicle. Although test meters/equipment have been used to find the cause for the unexplained stall is still unknown. This happens apx. Once every (2) months. When the engine stalls out the "check engine light" comes on and last month the " reduced engine power" light also came on and the Envoy would only move at 3 to 4 mph.
For the last few months the check engine light would come on and go off after a few days; we took it to our mechanic who ran a diagnostic and they said there is nothing wrong, probably a faulty sensor, not harmful. So, last night while driving, using cruise control and on the interstate my speedometer stopped working. When I came to a stop at an exit I noticed the speedometer was reading 42 mph but I was at a complete stop. I do not even want to imagine what might have happened should it have begun to work while I was doing 60+mph while on cruise control!!! this is extremely dangerous! so I came home and did some research to see if this is a known issue with my 2004 GMC Envoy xl and low and behold this is an issue to all GMC suvs from 2002-2005! I am disgusted at the information I found that states GMC isn't willing to take ownership of the recall/repair when this is already a known issue!! please act on this with due diligence and recall this faulty instrument panel before someone gets hurt or worse!!!!.
I purchased an used 2004 GMC Envoy xl in 2005 with warranty. About a year began experiencing problems took to dealer was told engine had to be replaced due to head bolt breaking. At this time I only paid my deductible as it was covered under the manf warranty. Now 3 years later, I began to experience problems. Engine light one took to mechanic (warranty has expired) was told engine needs to be replaced. Seems it's the same problem it had with prior engine.
I was driving in town and my speedometer stopped working at 0. The oil gauge is not working, pegged out at the max and my engine light is now constantly on. These events, particularly the speedometer not working, is a major safety hazard. Not driving at controllable speeds can lead to an accident and death. The parts and labor to fix this problem is $550. While researching this problem on the internet, I've found out that this is a common problem with GMC's in this year. There should be a recall with the cluster unit on 2004 GMC Envoys. GMC should try to prevent deaths that their products may create.
: the contact stated the vehicle started shaking prior to stalling while driving on the freeway at any speed five times. On each occasion, the check engine light illuminated on the dash. The vehicle has been to the dealership each time. On every occasion the gauges were cleaned and the oxygen sensors were replaced. The problem persists.
I own a 2004 GMC Envoy, just purchased in January. I feel very unsafe driving it, for when I try to accelerate it just loses power feels like its gonna die out. The rpms are going up and down when I try to accelerate. It,s gonna end up causing me to get in a wreck. I brought it to dealerhip last thurs, they updated the software in pcm. I had to put it back in shop today for doing the same thing I feel as if they arent gonna find whats wrong b/c the check engine light isnt on and it doesn,t act up all the time. I really feel this is of major concern b/c I,m seeing a lot of complaints posted with this same problem in Envoys and trailblazers. I think its time time for a recall don,t ya,ll?.
