Eight problems related to service brakes have been reported for the 2004 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2017

While at low speed I press the brakes to stop it goes to stop but then its like the abs kicks in and releases the brakes then I have to repress the brakes to get it to stop.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2017

While driving on a city street the car started lugging and not driving smoothly. When I needed to brake shortly after this happened the brake pedal went to the floor and I had no brakes. I pumped the brakes and was able to stop without hitting any one. I continued about 5 miles continually pumping the brakes not knowing if they would work . During this time the pedal would sometimes go to the floor and other times almost go to the floor. Then as suddenly as it started it stopped. Brakes were back to normal. This happened previously and the GMC mechanic found nothing wrong. So I'm put back on the street risking my life and someone else's because the mechanic said "it sometimes happens". That's not acceptable!.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2012

I have owned a GMC all my adult life. This Envoy has been nothing but problems . . . . Now the gauges seem to be all screwed up and after reading post from online. . I will need to put more time and more money into this SUV. Nothing like driving late at night worried about what's happening now. I go from sitting at a red light and my car losing pressure and turning off, to now every time I get into it and leave my house I hear the door bell and all my panels symbols flash and shows no gas to no battery life. . I am not pleased and will never purchase a gm again. . So sad.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2010

The front brake shoes on an 2004 Envoy has been replaced every year since 2007. Will not wear evenly and causes the front end to vibrate when applying the brakes.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2006

My 2004 GMC Envoy xuv had at least 12 failures to stop. This issue began occurring as soon as I bought it new in 2005. Description of the issue: 1. While applying brakes, brake pedal becomes soft for a period of time (shortest 1 second, longest 3-4 seconds) causing failure to stop. 2. Issue is very intermittent and occurs at any traveling speeds (example: 75 mph, 15 mph). . . What was done: 1. First complaint to service department in 2005: no issues found. 2nd complaint at 2005: dealer replaced brake booster. 3rd complaint in Jun 2006: dealer replaced brake booster again. Conclusion: since this issue is very intermittent and I do not drive this vehicle very often, it may take some time to verify the fix. I do not feel safe to drive this SUV.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2006

I bought my GMC Envoy in January 2004 for approx. $42,000. This car has everything. After about 2 months of the purchase, my gps went out and had been fixed twice. My brakes do not always work --sometimes they slip especially when I need them most -which is scary. GMC said that they have heard about this problem before, but did nothing to resolve the problem. The engine stalls periodically. GMC said they do not know why. The gas gauge and odometer do not work properly. When I brought my vehicle into north county GMC dealership in san diego for repairs I mentioned my gas gauge did not work along with many of the other issues. After they repaired the odometer by replacing the cluster, the gas gauge still did not work. Every single time these problems happen I am forced to pay a $100 service charge just so they can look at it and because I am in sales, I am also forced to get a rental car. After all this, I am still quite displeased with GMC. I hate to say it but they are supposed to be the best american car ã‚??professional gradeã‚?? and if this is true I will never buy an american vehicle again. GMC said they would be checking on all these problems and every single time I picked my Envoy up after they supposedly fixed the problems, I found several issues still unresolved. They suggest I need to set another meeting to bring my Envoy in and of course will cost another $100.
