1 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2013

I went to get my vehicle smoged and the smog tech let me know I have a leak from a clamp. When I got home I went to replace the clamp and saw that the neck on the gas tank was completely broken and that was where the actually leak was coming from. Apparently this is a big problem with other peoples GMC Envoy's, it is very dangerous, and the neck is made out of plastic. Now I am at a loss of a car until I can afford to fix it. This defect should be replaced by the manufacturer not by the owners.

9 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2011

2004 GMC Envoy leaking gasoline. I was told my car was leaking gasoline. I contacted GMC corp. Office to request assistance for the repair and was denied, reason given local service provider said consumer caused crack in gas tank. Also asked for assistance at least a percentage off from local dealership also denied. I called the local service repair while on hold with GMC and was told they did not tell GMC that I caused the damage. The local service repairman said they can not detemine how the damage was caused. He would not advocate nor deny a faullty part by GMC. We just want our vehicle fixed. My family and I cannot afford to pay $1300. For this repair. This car has so many problems that we cannot keep up with them financially. Currently the air conditioner does not blow, it has worked in several years. The passenger window chooses when it wants to roll down, the cd player just stopped playing after the two years. Often when I put gas inside the car I have to roll the windows down becuase the fumes are so strong in the backseat where my children sit. We have to put gas inside the car every two days. This car is dangerous to me and my family. I read on th NHTSA website a investigation was conducted and was closed due to GMC willingness to assist the consumer. I mentioned this to the GMC representative and her supervisor that I was aware a investigation was conducted. They indicated they are not aware of a investigation and to thier knowlege I am the first GMC consumer to report such a problem. On behalf of my family I am requesting your assistance in this matter. I cringe everytime I have to drive my children in this car. We cannont afford the repair and we cannot afford another vehicle. Please help us in this matter. Thank you, tiffany brown.

10 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2011

2004 GMC Envoy , I received a recall notice for a fuel tank problem. It said do not bring the truck in if you dont smell gas. Now a year later I smell gas and the dealer told me the recall expiered because of the mileage (195500).

11 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2010

I had a 2004 GMC Envoy xuv and had several things going wrong. The speedometer was radical, some days it would work and other days not. The back window of the vehicle would be down for no reason at all when I was not even in or near the car. The engine light would come on and go off. Like a fool I just purchased a used 2004 GMC Envoy xuv, only owned it 2 days and smelled gas. Looked under the vehicle and the entire rear of the underside of it was covered in gasoline. There was a small puddle on the garage floor. Took the vehicle back to the dealer and they took out the gas tank and there is a leak in the filler neck. Still waiting to get the car back, can't find parts. This will be my last Envoy.

12 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

2004 GMC Envoy. Consumer requests reimbursement for fuel module replacement in October of 2008, the consumer received a notification that some 2004 model year GMC Envoy vehicles operated in one of the corrosion areas such as new york. The fuel tank modular reservoir assembly, which contained the fuel pump, could develop corrosion of the fuel fee/return pipes after an extended period of time. The consumer stated she kept the letter in case she had a problem in the future. On August 10, 2010, she started smelling a constant strong gas smell inside and outside of the vehicle. When the consumer went to the dealer for her scheduled appointment, the manager pointed out that the notice stated that GMC would only provide an extended coverage within 10 years of the date the vehicle was originally placed in service or up to 120,000 miles. The consumers vehicle had 124,979 miles on it at the date of service. The consumer contacted several managers at GMC to see if she would qualify for reimbursement for the known issue, but was denied on each call.

13 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

I have a 2004 SUV XLT. I bought my car with 400 miles on it. I had the gas tank replaced early on. Went back to GMC b/c they had not installed it properly. I've had both front and rear sway bars replaced and both knock sensors replaced. My middle window decided to quit working and I haven't gotten it fixed because the guys at the GMC service center said they couldn't imagine what it could be and they would have to charge me $100 for a diagnosis!! my radio/cd player is only half lit up and stops working when it gets too hot from playing a cd. . . I am currently having issues with the fan clutch, thermostat and a leak in my front differential. Meanwhile the guys at the dealership wanted to charge me $1,500 to replace my knock sensors again and didn't even find the leak when they were "diagnosing" my issue. I truly do love my car, but I am super mad about the middle window and super mad about all of these issues. I take care of my car and do all of the routine maintenances. I think I know why it was only on the market for two years. Please help us get our middle windows fixed. I didn't do anything to cause it to stop working.

14 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2010

The gas tank or hose is leaking. This is only 7 years old and it is going to be very expensive to fix an feel this should be a recall. Several people have told me that they have had recalls on trailblazers for just this reason.

15 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2010

2004 GMC Envoy xuv dies when in drive and stopped for stop light, stop sign, etc. When the gas is applied, the car dies and I tie up traffic while having to shift to park, restart the engine, and then shift to drive and proceed through the intersection. It never dies while driving, only at a stop. I have had this car to the dealer numerous times and, because there is no "code" , they don't know what to do to fix it. The car also has a gas tank that is cracked at the neck and causes the check engine light to be on all the time. The dealership assures me that this is not a safety concern nor does the gas tank crack have anything to do with the engine dying. There is no gas leak but air does get into the tank causing the light to stay on. The throttle body has been cleaned and the entire emission system has also been checked and no one can figure out what the problem is. Dealership also says that the gas tank problem is quite common but that there is no recall. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Why not?????? the main computer module was replaced and this has been happening since then.

16 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2010

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy xl. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph as the fuel gage displayed an incorrect reading. The failure recurred at any time. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where they replaced the fuel tank yet the failure continued to recur. A complaint was filed with the manufacturer regarding the fuel tank but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 84,000.

17 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2010

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. The contact was having routine repairs made to the vehicle when the dealer stated that there was a small leak in the fuel tank. Although there was a safety improvement campaign for the failure on his year, make and model, his VIN was not included in the campaign. The manufacturer would not offer any assistance. There were no repairs made to the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 67,800 and the current mileage was 67,800.

18 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2008

Smell of gas inside of vehicle, check engine light on and notice of gas on garage floor. Took vehicle to a mechanic and found out that the gas tank was leaking around the neck of the tank where the refill hose connects. Found out that Chevrolet and GMC had a special coverage adjustment # 07099a on this problem. I took my vehicle to the dealer and I was told that my vehicle is not covered on this sca because of the VIN number. I called GMC customer service on recalls and I was told the same thing. The dealer agreed to pay 2/3's of the bill and I will have to pay 1/3 of it. On the sca sheet it list the following for my vehicle. The last 8 digits of the VIN starting with 46100001 to 46116824. My vehicle is leaking so badly that I can smell gas inside of the vehicle all the time. It is very dangerous to drive. Also I park my vehicle in my garage all the time and this is dangerous. I think that all of the 2002 to 2004 Chevrolet trail blazers and GMC Envoys will have this problem with the leaking gas tanks. The problem is with the design of the tank. I was told by the service tech at the dealer that they use to have a lot of problems with the gas tanks. He said that since they have changed the tanks out on the covered vehicles that they have had none of the vehicles back in with leaking gas tanks. This is a big safety issue that needs to be corrected. Some people would not notice this problem and if they have an accident this could cause more injuries and possible deaths. This could also cause an explosion around sparks or static in someone's garage.

19 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2008

Received a special case 07076 letter from GMC. Took 2004 GMC letter indicated if you were not seeing symptoms you are not to take it to dealer. I already have regular maintenance service scheduled and brought this sc07076 letter to dealer to inquire about case. Dealer service advisor recommended to have this sc07076 service performed as preventively maintenance eventhough the vehicle was not exhibiting these symptoms. The service was performed and immediately the vehicle began to show symptoms in the exact nature that was described in the sc07076 letter, fuel fumes, fuel leak when filling, ses light on. . . Took vehicle back and dealer indicated that they will not perform free service eventhough it should still be covered under stipulations of sc07076 letter as well as their warranty policy. Currently this is a health and safety issues since my children and I get headaches from gas fumes when needing to use the vehicle as fear for our safety since fuel leaks from gas tank now. I am trying to prevent any injury or death, mine, a passenger or near by person. Apparently GMC and dealer are aware of the problems but now ignore the situation due to their current financial situation.

20 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2008

Fill fuel tank with fuel. Drive around. Smell gas odor when stopped/parked. Did not fix.

21 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2007

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy xuv and when the oil was just recently changed the mechanic noticed that the gas tank was leaking at the point where the filler met the main body of the tank. He said since the tank was plastic the gas was causing the deterioration and the entire tank would cause a major issue. After checking with our local GMC dealer I discovered that the vehicle is just out of the 3 yr warranty period and since it was purchased in arizona and not California it is not covered under the extended GMC warranty. This should not be part of a replacement plan the consumer should be paying for, not like a regular maintenance item (changing tires, oil changes, spark plugs, etc. ) cutting corners to make the vehicle lighter and then not supporting the change is not the best way to be popular.

22 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2007

Check engine light on and taken to advance auto parts was told that there was a small leak. They advised that hoses are to be checked. Hoses were checked and check engine light remained on. Taken to the dealer and found out that there is a leak in the fuel tank. Was told that this was not a recall item. But this is a very dangerous defect. Now waiting for part to be replaced.

23 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2007

Vehicle's "check engine" light came on 2 days prior to failing a vehicle emissions test for fuel tank leak. Dealer stated that there was a "special policy" in place as the manufacturer recognized this same defect on other vehicles. The VIN number was not included in the "special policy" but was the same defect. The dealer is advising not to continue to drive the vehicle until repaired. The dealer opinion is that due the "special policy" there are no fuel tanks available so the vehicle IA located at the dealer until repaired. Old part can be made available.

24 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2007

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy xuv. On September 3, 2007, the check engine light illuminated and the contact smelled gas fumes in the passenger compartment. He discovered a small fuel leak coming from the neck of the fuel tank. The dealer stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty due to the mileage, therefore they could not provide any assistance. The purchase date was unavailable. The current mileage was 45,200 and failure mileage was 45,100. Updated 10/09/07.

25 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2007

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy xl. The current mileage was 61,000. The check engine warning indicator light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the fuel tank was cracking and had to be replaced. The failure mileage was 57,000.

26 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2007

Starting shortly after Envoy was bought I noticed that the fuel gauge would show quarter tank one, then after shutting off and starting again it was out of fuel and the light was on. In July 2011 the oil pressure gauge went high and it is now pegged and doesn't reset. I asked dealer about it and there was an outrageous price just to diagnose. Jan 2012 and now speedometer gauge does not reset, it is stuck at 30 mph and goes up to 85-90 when driving. After researching today I see a service bulletin about the instrument cluster, I never received the instrument cluster letter from gm, because Envoy wasn't included, but it is the same issues as other vehicle on the service bulletin. Please hold gm responsible for these defects.
