36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

Speedometer is staying on100 miles per hour, will not move or go back to 0. Are all GMC like this.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

Tl-the contact owns a contact 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that while making a stop, the vehicle would stall without warning. The contact was able to get the vehicle restarted. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000. Ne.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2013

At lees than 1/4 tank of fuel the gas gauge is close, after refueling, the fuel gauge goes way past full and will stay like that until fuel is below 1/4 tank. Last time the truck took 19. 85 gallons in a 20 gallon tank until it started working correctly again. One tank it worked fine and next fill up it was way beyond full again. At the same time when fuel gauge is wrong, the speedometer will be off. Many times freezing at 35mph while traveling 65mph. After many resets of ignition, the speedometer will come back. Also when all of this is happening with the speedometer and fuel gauge, the radio has no audio. Every now and again, the radio will come back and work on one speaker. Most of the time it is out. When weather is warmer, all 3 functions seem to work regularly. Below 50 degrees, all malfunction.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

This piece of crap vehicle in which the entire instrument cluster has completely failed starting with the fuel gauge. This failure then led to the failure of all the gauges minus as of right now the speedometer. The tac works when it wants to. GMC now has went back and wants to "fix" the sending unit only to the gas tank (gee. . . . Thanks for the rush gm considering this is a 2005 vehicle and the year is now 2013. . . And people have been complaining for darn close to 10 years about them now!! nice job stepping up!!). . . . . Thus correcting the gas gauge . . We hope (which I have been told will probably last for approximately 1 year. . . If we are lucky. . . . Oh joy for us!!!) yea. . . Thanks gm. . . I now know I will have 3/4 of a tank of gas when my freakin vehicle overheats on the side of the roadway since the rest of the gauges do not work because you people will not back your g. D. Products. Maybe if we are lucky enough it will overheat and melt to the ground and we will be rid of this piece of crap. No wonder everyone is going to foreign cars. . . Why buy these piece of [xxx]. I will never own another GMC as long as I breath air as soon as I am able to either sell, trade or hopefully someone will come and steal it. 40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2013

A recall has just been issued for GMC Envoy. Driver side door panel shorts out and may cause a fire. Recall for 2006 and 2007 model years. My car is a 2005 and the driver door controls have been shorting out for about a year. I have not yet had a fire but why was my model year not recalled and what steps can I take to have this model year included in this recall?.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2013

Upon filling gas tank to full, fuel gauge indicated empty and low fuel light illuminated. This indication now comes and goes and is erratic and unreliable. Note: I received a letter ( not a recall ) from gm last year saying if my vehicle experienced this problem to notify my dealer for service. Appears to me, gm knew it was just a matter of time before I experienced this problem. I have read numerous compaints by gm Envoy owners since then with the same problem. My local gm dealer says that gm will fix the problem and pay only half the cost. This well known problem is of epidemic proportion. Why has this not been upgraded to a recall.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2013

We started noticing after a fill up at the gas station the gas guage still showed empty. The guage took over an hour of driving to move up to full. In the middle of the week last week the vehicle ran out of gas and stalled. We added half a tank, but the guage still showed empty the next few times it was driven somewhere. Last weekend I filled up again and the guage showed empty still with warning indicator on. Again it took over an hour of driving for the guage to register the tank even 3/4 full.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2013

While traveling on the interstate in the evening, the speedometer became "stuck" at about 30 mph. We pulled off at a rest stop and turned off the engine, hoping that the speedometer would reset itself. Upon restarting the vehicle, the speedometer sat at 60 mph, even though we were still sitting at the rest stop--not moving. We tried turning off the engine again and this time when we restarted the vehicle, the speedometer needle "stuck" at over 120 mph--again we were not moving. The speedometer needle stayed past the 120 mph mark for the entire trip home. Fortunately, we were able to follow some friends home. A few days later, we took the car to a mechanic. He indicated that he had seen the speedometer problem before with other Gmcs and he then replaced the "instument cluster" in our vehicle. We also did a little research and discovered that several GMC models had been recalled due to problems with the speedometer, but the recalls did not appear to include the 2005 GMC Envoy.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2013

2005 GMC Envoy bought in February of 2011. A few months later the fuel gauge only registers as empty regardless of how much fuel was added to the tank.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2013

Electrical fire appear to have started under dash on the right side where thr blower motor is located.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2013

The contact owns 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated while driving, the speedometer failed to display the actual speed. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the entire instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. The current mileage was 118,000.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

This is a recurring problem with not just my vehicle, but after a very simple web search a vast number of these GMC Envoy vehicles. When traveling normally the speedometer decides to either drop its speed by 20-30 mph or raise it even as high as 120mph. When traveling in the city or hwy where the speed limit zones vary rather frequently and in heavy traffic, the driver naturally reacts to the needle unaware that the speedometer is actually faulty. I have therefore braked hard to reduce my speed when in fact I was going the speed limit. That can result in an instant to a rear end crash based on normal reactions. Gm obviously are aware of this issue as there are multiple on line complaints for this same issue and indeed they issued a recall for similar gm trucks. They however continue to ignore the Envoy problem and leave the owners "live or die" with the problem. How this cannot be considered a high priority safety issue is a mystery to me. Even 10 mph variations in heavy traffic mean potential accidents from bumper hugging drivers behind. This issue is more common in the extreme cold weather and thus I am of the opinion that there is a definite testing validation problem.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2012

The fuel sensor on this vehicle fails prematurely.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2012

In December of this past year (2012) my 2005 GMC Envoy began to have issues with the speedometer. I would be traveling down the a busy road at a traffic light barley moving and the speedometer would read 80mph. The needle would fluctuate anywhere from 20 mph all the way up to 120 mph and peg there. One occasion the speedometer would go back to normal 0 mph and work normally, but now that is an extremely rare occurrence.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds the gas gauge would jump around and she would not know whether her tank is fuel or empty. The contact also noticed that the check engine light has been illuminated for a while. The contacts speedometer has also failed. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised her that she would have to pay half for the repairs. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 119,224. The current mileage was unavailable. Tb.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2012

Instrument cluster stopped working. I can no longer judge speed. Tires cracked and dry rotted on sidewalls and had to be replaced at early mileage.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

The gas gauge went crazy. I filled up my tank but the gas gauge is showing incorrect readings. It jumps left, and right at random times, and sometimes reports that the fuel tank is empty even though I know it's full.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Fuel gauge registers empty after filling tank. Light & sound sensors indicate low fuel level. Fuel must drain slowly into tank or gas pump shuts off. Electrical dash indicators do not work for a time after fueling so cannot set the trip indicator to gauge the mileage to a tank of gas. Fuel on occasion does not shut off at the gas pump when tank is full.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

As reported by many other gm customers my vehicle has experienced the same fuel gauge/sending unit failure. It began slowly with minor inaccuracies in fuel amount. Then it quickly and steadily got worse until the fuel gauge doesn't work at all. I understand that gm acknowledges the problem, but refuses to pay the full price. I believe the NHTSA should force them to fully repair their faulty equipment which renders the driver blind as to how much fuel they may have. This could be very dangerous.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

Air conditioner quit working on level 5, would work on level 1-4, level 5 would keep turning off. Shortly after this within the same day I could smell something burning coming through the air vents. Mechanics noted and showed me that the resistor plugs on the back had burned and melted together, that's what was causing the burning smell. Needed a new resistor, pig tail, and blower. Also my fuel gauge and rpm are broke, have not been working for the past 3 years.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2012

The contact owns 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that while driving, the speedometer failed to display an actual speed. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic and the mechanic stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 85,400.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2012

While driving on the highway noticed that the speedometer was pegged at over 120mph. When I stopped it was still pegged over 120 mph. I also had to have repairs to the gas gauge. I had just filled up and the low fuel light was on.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2012

Fuel gauges is showing empty when the vehicle is full of gasoline. Odometer is not reading the correct speed. Temperature gauge is malfunctioning. On google several complaints about this is widely known. What is GMC doing to resolve these issues? the tax payers help bail out GMC and now we are not being treated unfairly where is our justice? please help, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Headlights began to dim, then brighten repeatedly, as to appear to be "flashing" other drivers. Shortly after, the oil pressure gauge malfunctioned. After the oil pressure gauge, a few days later the battery gauge malfunctioned. A few weeks later, the gas gauge stopped working right. Now, the engine continuously jerks, like it is missing due to lack of fuel. Contacted GMC on 11-09-2012. No solution.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

I received a letter from GMC approximately a year ago stating that there was a recall to the fuel gauge on my vehicle. I didn't think anything of it since I had not experienced the issue and the letter stated not to take it to the dealer unless you currently had the problem. As of a week ago the fuel gauge stopped working. I fueled up until the tank was full and the gauge reads as if the tank is empty and the low fuel light is on. In addition the speedometer has is having issues now as well. It sticks at highway speed and then just goes to zero and stays there. If it weren't for my gps I would have no clue what rate of speed I am traveling. I have contacted GMC customer service as well as the dealership and the repair for the fuel gauge will cost me $240 with GMC paying the other half. It seems to me that they were aware that there was an issue before I did so why am I now stuck with the repair bills? why was this not fixed before the vehicle was sold to me since I purchased it used from the dealership? something should be done about this. I should not be held accountable for GMC's errors! in addition there are recalls on the other GMC models for the cluster gauge that affects the speedometer. The Envoy was not included because there were not a sufficient number of complaints. Once again why should I be stuck holding the bag on faulty equipment? what can be done to get this resolved?.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

While driving speed control goes back and forth. Also when come to stop it stays stuck? fuel gauge does not properly display correct amout of fuel in tank.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2011

I have had a problem in the past with the fuel gauge reading empty continuously as I have read from many other complaints. Recently I experienced a problem with the oil pressure gauge. At first the check engine light appeared intermittently and then the oil pressure gauge dropped to zero, at which time the message in on the lcd reading said "stop engine" and "oil pressure low". I immediately went to my gas station and checked the oil, which was only down a 1/4 tank. My mechanic stopped the car and started it again and the oil pressure gauge reset itself but once I started to drive the car again, the oil pressure dropped. My mechanic believes it is another sensor problem like the fuel sensor but is not completely sure. I only started with this issue today but it is more worrisome to me than keeping track of how much gas should be in my tank. I am curious to know if others have started to experience this problem. I have had the car since it was brand new and have drive 79000 miles. I also had a major issue with the suspension system with I believe is common in this vehicle.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2011

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the speedometer began to malfunction. After some time, several of the gauges on the dashboard malfunctioned as well. The head lights also began to flicker on and off independently. The vehicle was scheduled for diagnosis by an independent mechanic. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 94,000.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

The speedometer fails to represent true vehicle speed. Using a gps we can monitor the inaccuracy in the gauge reading. The speedometer reflects a speed of 25 when actual speed is 45. This becomes worse as the vehicle is driven as the speedometer completely fails to register speed. An identical issue was pr3esent on a 2003 cheverolet truck we own which was repaired by gm under an in-house program resulting from a lawsuit. Gm has declined to repair this same problem on this model. If a driver cannot accurately determine his/her spped at any given moment the possiblility for safety related instances are increased for the driver and others.

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

Service brake lights stay on even after repaired , gas gauge goes crazy, tachometer doesn't work properly lights dim and flash, windshield has recall needs replaced , gas gauge quit working electrical system keeps failing. Three recalls need to be replaced GMC admits fault to electrical problem, noted on website safercar. Gov. Want to know what dealer to bring my car to for repairs. I am a cancer patient with metastatic liver cancer I have thousand of dollars worth of medical, I can't keep paying for this car to be repaired when GMC owns up to the fact that these defects are their fault please tell me where to take this Envoy for them to fix all these problems thank you.

66 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2011

Gasoline and oil pressure gauges stop working suddenly on a GMC Envoy 2005.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

One incident where the door malfunctioned in a position where the door came completely off three of the lacthes and the door was only being held on by the non-elcectronic latch, the door fell into my arms and I had to hold the door up and manually place it into position so I could get it to close. Had I not caught the door, it would have fallen to the ground. It would have been damged. It could have been possible that the door fell out onto me, causing injury. On October 1st, 2011 the door came open while sitting at a red light, as the vehicle pulled away at a green light the door flung open in a tailgate fashion(truckbed style) and slammed against the stops causing the window to shatter on the road. Prior to this happeneing, we were loading groceries into the back with the door opened in the swing door fashion( to the side) when we attempted to close the door, it just bounced back and did not secure. We kept trying to secure the door and finally the door secured, but it would only secure with one electronic latch and the manual latch, the top left latch would not close. It showed ajar on the dash. As stated above when we pulled away at a green light, the door flung open like a truck bed style with the window up. The door is not designed to open truckbed style with the window up, the window needs to be in the open position before it will open truck bed style. Even if you were to activate the truckbed latch opener, the door would sense that the window was up and default to the side swing method. The tailgate door is a safety hazard due to the poor design of the door which allows water and dirt/sand to infiltrate the latches and cause un-wanted operations which could cause injury or death.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

I purchased this car used with approximately 24,000 miles in 2006. Within a year of purchasing the car the cluster panel (gauges) stopped working. I took the car in to have it checked and was told that there was no recall and that it would cost approximately $700 to repair as the entire cluster panel would have to be remove and replaced. After talking with CO-workers with the same vehicle experiencing the same problem; I later discovered that there had been a recall on this issue but you had to be the first owner of the vehicle. After having the cluster panel repaired, my gas gauge has stopped working and I am told that the entire tank has to be removed for repair and that there has not been a recall on this issue either. The window and door lock system on the front passenger door also is non-operational. This vehicle seems to have several minor electrical issues but I am most disturbed by the fact that after spending the money to have the cluster panel fixed my gas gauge is still not working properly.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2011

The speedometer does not accurately record the speed while traveling for my 2005, GMC, Envoy, slt model. It will indicate that I am traveling 20 mph or even 0 while on the highway and seems to increase my rpms while malfuntioning. This has caused seveal tickets as I can not personally track how fast/slow I am going while driving. This malfunction happens everyday. My oil gauge is also unable to read, it never moves and reads under the start of the meter (south) at all times, even when the vehicle is not started.

70 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2011

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Envoy. The contact stated while driving 78 mph the speedometer malfunctioned. The contact was unable to identify the speed of the vehicle which caused the contact to be cited by a police officer for speeding. The contact took vehicle to the dealer who stated the entire instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The instrument cluster was not replaced; however, he noticed numerous complaint regarding the speedometer for his year, make, and model and other gm vehicles. The failure mileage was 83,500.
