31 problems related to other fuel system tank assembly have been reported for the 2006 GMC Envoy. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
At every fillup we can smell gas like there is a fuel leak. I had a shop do a fog test and they confirmed a leak "somewhere from the top of the tank". The tank would need to be dropped to visually inspect at a cost of $400-$500 just for the dropping of the tank. Then there would be added costs to repair whatever is causing the leak and smell of gas. After hearing that I came home to start my searching for recalls & safety notices to find that gm had a notice issued as well as the NHTSA, but it seems they cut the year off at 2004 & 120,000 miles. According to the thread below, it appears this was extended to vehicle under 150,000 miles which we are well under, but we don't have a 2002-2004 model. . Read more...
The vehicle shows that the fuel tank is on empty shortly after being filled up. Also the engine will die at randoms times driving down the road. Also the head lamps fail at random times.
Investigation # dp10001: the petitioner alleges that the fuel tank level sensor is defective and could result in a subject vehicle running out of fuel, stall, and being rear ended by another vehicle. Odi will evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. Gm will fix till 2016 my 2006 Envoy has only 75,000 miles on it.
Hi, I have a problem with the gas meter on my GMC Envoy 2006. It has 38,000 miles. The gas gauge shows that the gas tank is empty even though I fill it up. When I start the engine the gauge goes shows that the tank is full, after a few minutes of driving it goes all the way down to empty and I get the signal that the tank is empty. My concern is about if there is any recall on that because it only has 38,000 miles. I was also checking online and found a lot of complaints for the same problem. I believe gm should be responsible for this matter because it is a sign of a defected part. This problem started happening on January 30, 2016; my main concern is getting stuck in traffic and possibly get in an accident due to the gas gauge is misreading. Thank you for taking the time to read my complaint.
The gas gauge has completely stopped working. It consistently shows as empty even when tank is full.
The fuel gauge stated that I had 300 miles till empty. While going down the road, it went all the way down to empty. I stopped and turned it off and waited a few minutes and turned it back on. It took about 5 minutes but the mileage and gas hand went back up to where it was supposed to be. This morning I filled the tank up and now the computer is reading low fuel and the gas hand is below the red line. Also the check engine light is on.
Tl-the contacts owns a 2006 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that although the fuel gauge read a quarter of tank of fuel, the vehicle ran out of gas and stalled. The dealer was contacted who stated that the fuel tank lever sensor might need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle had surpassed the statue of limitation for a manufacturer customer satisfaction campaign. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 138,775 and the current mileage was 138,963. Bt.
Fuel sensor/guage reads empty even though fuel tank is full. Needle continues to fluctuates while driving providing an inaccurate read of duel state.
My fuel gauge keeps fluctuating. Even when I have a full tank of gas, the gauge fluctuates, and goes to empty and the low fuel light comes on. This happens when I am parked, stopped at a light, and going down the road. It doesn't matter what speed I'm going, the gauge goes to empty and the light comes on. It happens when I have a full tank, half tank, quarter tank. Please help!.
While driving the vehicle the air will let out of the shocks, also happens when vehicle is parked. Ssometimes air will not even elevate shocks when vehicle is turned on. Also randomly while vehicle is started whwther the fuel tank is full or empty or inbetween it will go from accurate level to empty mark on fuel gauge.
Filled fuel tank, gauge read full, as I was driving the gauge went to empty within 2 minutes. The gauge will sometimes read half, but as soon as I start driving it goes to empty.
Fuel gauge has stopped working properly, reads different levels while driving, says there's no fuel and we just put fuel in the tank.
I filled up my Envoy which was at 1/4 tank. When I started the vehicle the yellow low gas light came on and the bell. I shut off the vehicle and restarted it and the low gas light came right back on and the gauge remains on e.
Filled the gas tank with gas and it moved up and down for a few hours then went down to empty where it has been since then regardless of how much gas is in the tank. It has cause the engine light to come on and not go off.
I had just purchased my Envoy a few days prior and was on my way to get gas. The fuel was low but the fuel light was not on. When I stopped at a red light, my Envoy died. This happened at every stoplight until I put gas in it. This has happened multiple times since then. It happens anytime my vehicle is between 1/4 tank & empty. The fuel light is not on when this occurs. It almost seems as if there is not as much gas in it as the fuel gauge reads. It has only stopped one time while I was actually moving (as I was coming down a ramp to get on the interstate). It did not start back up immediately when I attempted to restart it that time, but took several tries before it started. It will literally die every time I stop until I put gas in it. There have also been a few times where I have slowed for a red light, then the light turned green so I went to accelerate and the vehicle either sputtered and felt like it was not getting gas, or died completely. Luckily, most times I can put it in neutral & get it to start right back up without having to pull over. However, I feel that his is a serious safety issue for myself & the other motorists traveling behind me as I travel very busy roads on my way to and from work. I have learned to keep the fuel above 1/4 tank but the way this thing burns gas, it does get low from time to time before I get to the gas station. I don't know if it's a fuel system issue or if the gas gauge is incorrect but this needs to be recalled because it is definitely a hazard for myself and others. Additionally, everytime I start my vehicle since it has gotten cold, it idles very high - like a loud high pitched whirring noise. It then goes very low and almost sputters. It does this several times before leveling off and sounding 'normal'. Again, I don't know if this is a gas or engine issue but I feel like it is not getting gas.
The fuel tank level sensor is defective and could result in the vehicle running out of fuel, stall, and being rear ended by another vehicle. When doing a google internet search for "2006 GMC Envoy fuel sensor", I found that this is a very common problem with this vehicle. Called GMC call center at 800-462-8782. They have recognized it as a problem, and are paying for half of the repair cost (10 years or 120,000 miles). Repairs must be performed at a gm dealership. Nhtsa has had other reports of this same issue with the GMC Envoy.
Ran out of gas with the fuel gauge reading half full (vehicle had approx 50k mileage). After putting a couple of gallons in the tank went to the gas station and filled the tank. When the vehicle was started the gauge bounced to full and then to empty. It began bouncing up and down continuously, sometimes settling at half full or at empty. It continues to do this today (9/16/13) but mostly stays on empty with the fuel gauge light on all the time regardless of how much gas is in the tank. We now use the trip odometer to gauge the distance we travel so we know when to refuel. We were told by our dealer that it was the fuel sensor and would cost around $600-$700 to repair.
Fuel gauge has stopped working properly. When tank is filled, the gauge reads empty and fuel light is on. When the fuel level begins to decrease below the full level from driving the vehicle, the gauge fluctuates between the completely full mark and the empty mark. This fluctuation can occur during a trip that is less than a few miles.
The low fuel level light has come on, and the tank was filled within 25 miles. Researching, I find this is a current issue with my vehicle. The fuel gauge shows empty almost all the time, and the check engine light has come on. The fuel gauge does not show correctly at all.
Fuel gauge stays on empty even when the tank is filled. Check engine light comes on occasionally. I found countless others with the same problem on other sites. . Read more...
I have a 2006 gmac Envoy - 49,000 miles - one month ago the gas gauge started moving on it's own, I would fill up and will show full as I am driving it will go all the way to empty and then slowly move to full and then back to 1/2 tank and the empty which makes the light and bell come on. When I turn off the car and restart it will then go back to full or stay on empty. This is a safety hazard I never know if I am running low on gas and will be strandard in the middle of the road or is it about to stall out which could cause a wreck.
With no apparent cause, the gas gauge on my 2006 GMC Envoy began fluctuating wildly. It first happened after I filled up with a full tank of gas- the gauge immediately went to empty and the warning light came on. Ever since, the gauge does not give accurate fuel readings- it will read full when empty, empty when full, and the needle will spike all over the place. . I consider it to be a significant safety concern- running out of gas in the middle of heavy traffic can cause serious accidents. Was diagnosed as a faulty fuel sensor in the gas tank and would cost $700 to replace.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy. While driving approximately 65 mph, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate fuel level reading. The vehicle then suddenly stalled due to the lack of fuel present in the fuel tank. The roadside assistance dispensed the required fuel into the fuel tank and the vehicle resumed as normal. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the fuel tank sensor was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. There was an open investigation under NHTSA action number dp10001 which closed and a preliminary evaluation had been opened. The approximate failure was 81,000. Sm.
I have a 2006 GMC Envoy which has a faulty gas gauge. When I fill up my gas tank, the gas gauge shows the tank as being "empty" with the orange light on indicating an empty tank. As some fuel burns off the top (after approximately 20-25 miles), the gas gauge then moves to the "full end of the gauge. While driving, the gas gauge continuously shows that it has more fuel in the tank than it actually does. Because I was concerned that the gas gauge was inaccurate and would result in running out of gas, I started resetting my odometer and tracking mileage after each fill up. Based on the mileage tracked thus far, I estimate the gas gauge to show that it has approximately 1/4 – 1/3 more gas than what is in the tank.
With no apparent cause, the gas gauge on my 2006 GMC Envoy began fluctuating wildly. It first happened in March of 2011 after I filled up with a full tank of gas- the gauge immediately went to empty and the warning light came on. Ever since, the gauge does not give accurate fuel readings- it will read full when empty, empty when full, and the needle will spike all over the place. Just recently (may of 2011) the gauge stopped working all together. It now constantly reads empty. I consider it to be a significant safety concern- running out of gas in the middle of heavy traffic can cause serious accidents. I notified gm of the problem and just today, 6/3/11 was told "not enough information exists to indicate a problem or warrant a recall. " they offered no assistance to help fix the issue, which was diagnosed as a faulty fuel sensor in the gas tank and would cost $600 to replace.
The gas gauge will read empty right after the tank is filled. The gauge will then slowly go up, then go up and down randomly, resulting in never knowing how much gas is in the tank. Running out of gas is a real possibility at any time. The local Chevrolet dealer has diagnosed the problem as a defective sending unit, but no repair has been made yet.
Fuel gauge is erratic causing the driver not to know when the level may be dangerously low and leave him/her stranded. Gauge will register "empty" when the tank is full. The 'check engine" light sometimes comes on after 50-100 miles the gauge will register "full". It may or may not begin to read some level after that. The check engine light will go off. This is the second GMC vehicle I have owned to have this problem.
Faulty fuel tank sensor in my 2006 GMC Envoy. Filled my truck up only for the gas gauge to read empty. Then my check engine light came on! took it to the mechanic who told me the fuel tank sensor failed and he noted it a common problem in the Envoy. Its costing me 800. 00 to fix this. I have done some web research and it indeed looks to be a common problem, I find this very disturbing. Gm should recall all of them regardless of warranty or not?.
Beginning in 2009 my 2006 GMC Envoy began having problems with the fuel tank sensor. It would show empty when in fact it was full. Now the problem is continuous. I must use to odometer to guess when I need to refuel the vehicle. I do not know when I may run out of gas. If this happens in a high traffic area if would definitely cause a safety hazard to myself and to other drivers.
Gas gauge goes from empty to full repeatedly, regardless of fuel level. Very common on all gm SUV's manufactured in 2006. Leads to vehicles running out of gas when drivers believe they have a half or quarter tank of gas, etc. . .
A few months after I purchased my 2006 GMC Envoy, my gas gauge started to act crazy. I took it into a repair shop and they told me it was going to cost around $800 to fix because they had to drop the tank. Since my car was out of warranty I could not afford to fix it. After some internet searching I noticed that hundreds of people have had the same issue with their gm product. Now my check engine light keeps turning on and I can't pass my emissions inspection to renew my plates until it is fixed. I have been keeping track of my gas via tracking my mileage, but have run out on a busy street. It is very expensive to fix and unsafe to keep in the condition it is in.
