38 Air Bag problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/07/2012

Due to the check engine light constantly coming on I was told that I needed a new gas cap. It was stated if the cap is not on properly it affects the emission conrols. I have replaced the gas cap several times nothing has changed engine light goes on and off. There still has not been accurate justification for this matter. Vehicle has faulty / leaking air bags on the rear suspension. Upon research this has been a problem on GMC vehicles from 1994 ~ 2006. Why are there no recalls? GMC Envoy vehicle are sitting very low during freezing tempatures. Upon starting the vehicle it will rasie back up and level itself but it should not drop down low period. Websites are flooded with complaints. I have contacted GMC regarding all these issues and nothing has been done. I was told there were no recalls regarding these matters which I don't understand. I have viewed so many complaints on several websites regarding these same issues. Exterior lights~ lamps have faulty sockets due to moisture getting inside the lamps / back up lamps. Bulbs burning out continuously. Unfortunately when you take your vehicle to a frequent dealer, many times they'll step outside to check your vehicle quickly without putting you in the system if they feel no service is required. I believe this may be why these complaints are not being addressed/ reported / or recorded. It is apparent there are serious problems with these vehicles. Something needs to be done, and we should not have to deal with repeat manufacturer defects/hazards year after year. It is not fair to us (the customer). They can continually contact you to trade in your vehicle or buy it, but they can't contact you regarding defects on the vehicle. I was told they only notify the original owner of recalls. Again they'll contact you regarding marketing and advertising. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

I have looked into this issue and there are 1,000's of people with the same issue I have. My airbags go low over night and under 32 degrees don't pump up at all. I work 26 miles away and travel to work riding on my frame. My body is jarred and my truck is getting beaten because the air ride system is not working properly. You can hear the pump working and I've been told that it's a valve needed to be replaced. This issue is not from age. Others have had this problem as early as 40k.

When local GMC service dept. Was called by owner to inquire about problem, service tech said he had no reports of such situation. The surge happened again on 10/31/08 and there was a passenger in the vehicle who also experienced the sensation. On 11/17/08 while at a complete stop, after turning wheels sharply to the right to go around a road equipment vehicle in the parking lot, upon removing foot from brake, the denali lunged forward enough to bump the tire of the equipment vehicle and then it accelerated as if the cruise control was activated. There were no brakes when an effort was made to stop the vehicle. Steering of vehicle was hard due to power steering failure . Vehicle jumped upon a curb, driver forcefully turned steering wheel to avoid hitting a brick building as acceleration was still ongoing. Vehicle crashed through a steel garage door and continued until it crashed into a retaining column at which time the motor was turned off. The impact of the collision could be felt up to the second floor of the building. The driver was wearing a seat belt. Failure Date: 11/10/2003

My wife was driving around 35 mph during a clear day when suddenly the steering wheel of our 2003 GMC Envoy started wobbling and she couldn't control it anymore. She stepped on the brakes but the vehicle wouldn't stop. The vehicle went over the curb and initially hit a utility pole on the left passenger side, then eventually hit the tree with the front bumper and knocked the two stationary objects down. Surprisingly, the airbag didn't even deploy. The insurance company declared the vehicle total wrecked and unrepairable. As expected, GMC declined responsibilities. They sent a so called independent investigator but they wouldn't give me his phone number. The report they sent contained only raw data about the airbag and nothing about the steering wheel. I will never buy or recommend a GMC again.
