3 Brake Light problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

To whom it may concern. 8/29/2012. I bought a used 2003 GMC Envoy xl sle/slt and purchased the vehicle from sherman of skokie IL. About this vehicle. The third brake light piece that covers the top of the rear window basically fell off the car on a windy day. The plastic piece that holds the third brake light broke leading to the entire piece falling off hanging by the 2 wires that connect for power. I live in algonquin IL and recently have seen three other Envoys with the same missing third light piece in a period of two weeks. I have looked up recalls for this vehicle but surprisingly have found none. Knowing I have personally seen several Envoys with the same missing third light piece I think there needs to be a recall. Not only is this a safety hazard but it's the law to have a third brake light in illinois. I have not brought to a dealer since there was not a recall and I do not have the out of pocket cash to pay for this to be fixed. Respectfully I would like this third brake light piece replaced and fixed at no cost to me. I do have the third light piece that fell off to give back to you so you can inspect it. I would like this fixed within 30 days of receiving this letter. I would appreciate your prompt response to this safety hazard and thank you for your time. This is the letter I sent GMC and they said there is nothing they can do!.

4 Brake Light problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 09/29/2011

I purchased this vehicle 10 months ago and have to replace the headlights 9 seperate times not including the brake lights 5 times. After the 3rd time the man at the auto parts store stated this is a known problem with GMC> the lights get too hot and burn up the bulb and the connectors. I have had 2 buy now 4 rabbits connectors and they make the bulb last a little longer but the exspense is sad. If this is a known problem and it is posted all over the interent from customers with the same issues why has not recall beem placed for these lights. If it is heating hot enough to melt a connector that is a fire hazard and needs to be recalled. Now my speedometer stoped working and to my surprise I wass advised this also a common GMC problem with the cluster repair being required to fix it.

5 Brake Light problem of the 2007 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 02/10/2011

I took my vehicle in for an oil change and the shop noticed that my brake lights did not work. I left the shop and decided to investigate the problem myself. After replacing all of the bulbs and discovering that the problem was elsewhere. I took the car to a dealership and they found that the problem existed under the dash, they determined that every time I braked, the wires were being stripped and caused a short.

While driving @ 35 mph I noticed a very loud rattle and heard a noise looking in my rearview mirror a saw the whole plastic top that fits over the hatch back and houses the third brake light, fly off into the air and land in the other lane of traffic. It ripped the brake light wire right out. Luckily no one was coming around the turn at the time. Had to stop traffic to get it out of the road. This is a busy side road that comes to a stop light.

In March of 2009, when the consumer stared the vehicle, it sounded as if there was something metal tumbling around under the hood. Upon inspection of the vehicle, it was determined the engine needed to be replaced. On June 10, 2010, the vehicle would not start and had to be towed to the dealer. An inspection revealed a starter was needed. Also, an alignment was done and the rear brake light was replaced. On June 12, 2010, the vehicle would not come out of park. After 25 minutes and over 50 attempts, it finally came out of park. The consumer drove to the dealer, but they were unable to find a problem. September 2010, the consumer noticed the rear of the truck was sitting very low. The rear end air suspension needed to be replaced. The air condition randomly worked. There were times where the air would just start blowing and no buttons were pushed. Also, the defroster stopped working. The consumer continued to experience problems with the vehicle not coming out of park.
