Purchased the 2005 GMC Envoy xuv used in 2009 with 41000 miles. Within 3 months the Envoy started having rear door latch failures. The rear door and glass can be opened in a traditional side door mode or a truck bed mode. Frequently the electronic latches that operate to let the door function in either way would fail. The Envoy has been in several times over three years to have all the latches repaired and or replaced. Each latch has been replaced several times. When the latches fail, and they have failed in a configuration that when I tried to open the door in a side door way, three latches let lose and the door fell open with only one latch holing the rear door on. I was forced to have to lift the door back into the slots where the door pegs lock into the latches. One time three latches failed and I had to use bungee cords to keep the door closed so that I could drive it to the dealer to have the latches replaced. The dealer charges me 50 dollars per visit per the warranty, however the vehicle has to go in at least 3 times a year to have the latched looked at and repaired or replaced. They replace the fixed latches at no cost but I still get charged 50 dollars for the visit. The warranty is soon to be off this vehicle. Also the gas guage failed to operate correctly within months of owning the Envoy. The gas gauge would show more fuel then what I had, or show no fuel whatsoever even though I had just filled the gas tank up. The gauge needle would bounce back and forth all the time or get stuck full or empty as well. It was found that there was a bad fuel level sensor in the tank. It was replaced. I have also had to replace the front pinions of the Envoy twice during the three years I have owned it because they were leaking. I have also had to have the differential carrier overhauled because the front differentials were both leaking. These pinions and differential repairs were three different visits to the dealer, not at once.

My front differential started to seize up while driving on a major highway. My car would made a grunting noise and slowed to almost a complete stop, good thing it was early morning and the traffic was not heavy. A car or truck could of easily ran into my bumper causing me serious injury or death. I called the repair place right away and they got me in immediately. The diagnosis was the front differential needs to be replaced.
The gears in the front differential got damaged at 41,000 miles. Had to replace the gears.

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. While making a turn at 40 mph, the contact heard a loud boom and a grinding noise. She had the vehicle towed to her mechanic and then to the dealer. The dealer stated that the front driver side differential casing was cracked. The purchase date was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 71,838.
I was driving along interstate 75 at night with my 3 year old, 16 year old, and 18 year old nephew returning to college after winter break on Jan. 2,003. We were left stranded on the side of the highway, after we almost wrecked. The gears were jumping back and forth from 2 wheel to wheel drive. I took to a local gm dealer and they told me that it would costs me 2500 to repair-the problem the front differential. I contacted the 1800 gm service line and they said that they would not be assisting with repairs due to mileage. I asked around at different auto repair and transmission shops and they said that gm knows they have a problem with the differential in Envoys, trailblazers, and isuzus. Even if the problem gets fixed, im told there is no guarantee that the problem will not happen again until gm addresses the actual problem with the differentials. I believe my gear problem caused the differential to fail. Meanwhile I am stuck with a car that I have to pay for another year and a half on. It is really an inconvenience to me. I cannot afford the repair, the car sits in the driveway. Im behind on my car payment, having to rent a car to drive to work. Gm should be held accountable. Other problems include the clutch fan going out, costing me over $500 to repair on my own. Gm refused to help. This went out at 33,000, shortly after purchase. I am really burdened right now and don't know what to do.
The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy. While driving 55 mph, the driver heard a loud noise in the front of the vehicle. The gear shifts from normal to 4 wheel drive. The dealer informed the contact that the front differential was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was diagnosed for a second opinion and the mechanic agreed with the previous failure including that there was no oil in the differential. The contact stated that she has filed a complaint## 71-492693494 with the manufacturer. The contact can provide photos if needed. The dealer advised the contact the vehicle can be repaired for a fee. The current and failure mileage were 55453.
After having several problems with my 2003 GMC Envoy xl such as broken window, 4 wd broken, and many other problems I noticed a humming noise. Took it into the dealership to be serviced along with a bad switch in the driver's side door panel and was told the front differential is bad. It is being fixed now, but was told by several other mechanics that this sort of thing shouldn't happen to a new car and generally the differential should last the lifetime of the vehicle.
I was driving along interstate 69 near fort wayne in my leased 2006 GMC Envoy denali with my boss on company business when a car from behind me pulled along side honking their horn and yelling for me to pull over and get out of my car because it was on fire. We immediately stopped, got out, and saw flames underneath the engine compartment of my vehicle. We called 911 who dispatched fort wayne fire and indiana state police personnel. The car was towed to the local GMC dealership. Both a third party insurance investigator and a general motors investigator concur that the front differential failed causing lubricant to spray onto the catalytic converter and exhaust system igniting a fire. General motors has admitted to me that this is a defect I could not possibly known about nor was it my fault in any way. General motors wants to "repair" the vehicle and put me back in it. I've told them my life and my boss's life were at stake because of this fire which if no one had warned me about as I was driving, the consequence could have been two fatalities as I did not know the vehicle was on fire as I drove along the highway. I've asked general motors to do the right thing, break my lease, and they can have this Envoy to do with as they please. To date, they have refused to accommodate me. I refuse to put myself or my two small children back into a vehicle that was on fire and could have cost me my life!.

While driving at 35-40 mph, after exiting the highway, (I-75) my truck just slowed all of a sudden, almost to a complete stop, no warning. And started jerking. I was almost rear ended. My truck started rattling, and clanking, and I had to have it towed. I was told by the dealership that my front carrier had thrown a bearing, (font differential) and the housing was broken. I was also told that it would be 3,286. 53 to have my truck repaired. Upon further research, I learned from a friend that the same problem had occurred with his truck six months after he had purchased it, and that over 450 of these same parts had to be ordered in 2004 alone.
Steering failed when in 4 wheel hi also front wheels locked there was a rubbing noise under the vehicle. Sounded like the transmission was falling apart. Had this problem before and told by the dealer can't find anything wrong. Had this vehicle only 4 months. Major problems with 4 wheel drive.
When my vehicle had less than 200 miles on it the check four wheel drive light came on. Whe had only had the car for less than a week. I asked the dealer and they said that as long as it was running fine the would put it on the computer at my 3,000 mile checkup. A few weeks later I started hearing a rubbing noise. I brought it in and they took it for a test drive. They told me that they had swiched it from 2 wd to 4wd high and the noise was gone. It was not. The next day I switched it into awd and there was no noise. That afternoon the front wheels locked up on me when I was going about 30 mph. We had the vehicle towed back to the dealership. They told us that the front differental was litteraly falling apart and have now said they are going to replace the transfer case. The milage on our Envoy is 1263. Needless to say, I am not happy. I purchased a new vehicle so I would not have problems. I have only had it for a month.
We purchased a $33,000 new vehicle in October. We immediately noticed the passenger front seat seatbelt locks then starts to tightening and never unlocks. I brought the issue to the service department, the new car sales manager, and Gmcs attention. Dean cloud in bentleys service department told me that the seatbelt is designed to lock so a childs safety seat can be put in the front seat. I showed him that the visors in the car and the users manual say never put a car seat in the front with the air bags. He said that the passenger must unhook the seat belt every few minutes then reconnect it. I find this unacceptable. The dealership is putting the passengers in the vehicle in an unsafe and illegal situation by telling them the only solution is to disconnect the seatbelt while the vehicle is in motion. The seatbelt in its current condition is choking the passengers, which is also unsafe. The seatbelt needs to be repaired or replaced. The differential unit had to be replaced. The bearings did not have enough tourqe (that is wht the dealer told me).
