4 Structure problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/04/2011

2005 GMC Envoy xl back rear door window bracket detached the first time, the second time the bracket itself broke and shattered the rear window. This is a design flaw that people all over the the country have experienced. I am trying to get warranty to cover it but they keep telling me they don't cover broken glass, well if the bracket didn't snap in 2 the glass would not have broken. I am very lucky I was not blinded by the explosion of glass. I took pictures which show pieces of glass over 20 feet away. I also read post by other people where children were cut in the face a scarred by this same event.

5 Structure problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/05/2010

First my speedometer stopped registering a speed followed by the gas gauge going out. My radio goes in and out (more out than in), my sunroof started opening and closing on its own when turning the car on and off, and the roof leaks around where the visor is when it rains hard. I have seen many other consumers with these same problems and would really like to have these problems addressed by someone at GMC.

6 Structure problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/18/2010

May 18, 2010 6pm driving home from chena hot springs road at the speed limit 55 miles per hour the rear hatch plastic was rattling as usual at that speed. At about 1 block from college road turnoff while still driving on johanson hwy the right side of the plastic cover broke and was hanging down over back window. I reduced my speed and stopped and tried to place right side back up and seen it was still attached on left side. I drove the rest of the way home very slow. When my husband got home I had him remove from left side. This piece is 3 foot 10 inches by 10inches. It also holds my (chmsl) lamp. This is the third time it has falling off. 2006 local GMC replaced because they sold it to me. 2008 it flew off while driving 55 miles a hour and luckly no one was behind and no one was hurt. I believe this is a factory defect and GMC needs to fix this permanently before someone gets hurt. They state condition cause is a poor bonding of the double-sided adhesive tape between the chmsl applique and the liftegate glass. Quote from GMC 2008 #01-08-66-007c: center high-mount stop lamp(chmsl)a[[lique loose (re-tape applidque)- Aug 27, 2007. I spoke with jeremiah from GMC he states they (GMC) will not do anything and see no problem and that I should not use hatch in the winter time. And by the way I have not used my hatch in the winter months since after the 2008 repair that the GMC local dealer fixed as a courtesy I choose not to take any chances. I also avoid driving over 50 miles an hour. Miliage on my Envoy today is only 31,192 I avoid long trips too. I am not asking for a new car I just want to be safe driving 55 miles an hour. I think it is a defect design the plastic sits up and the force of the wind hitting at over 50 miles an hour it rips it off!! thank you for any help in this matter.

7 Structure problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 04/28/2010

Spare tire hoist secondary latch frozen, 2002 GMC Envoy. Spare tire could not be removed from hoist when a road hazard blowout occurred. Tow truck operator could not remove spare. After a tow to tire vendor, they could not get the spare down. Upon visiting a dealership they could not remove the spare tire and said the mechanism was frozen and had to be replaced for $250, but they didn't have the part in stock. After a trip to another dealership, they cut the hoist cable, removed the spare and replaced the hoist part. One can only imagine the trauma if the family had been on us highway 50 in the middle of nowhere when this incident occurred. This must be a prima-facie violation of the fmvss code that requires a spare tire. Yes, the spare tire is present, but it cant be installed on the vehicle. One would hope that automotive engineers know that the underside of a vehicle is subject to corrosion and design accordingly. Researching this issue, many enthusiast forums and other blogs reflect the frustrations of owners with the same situation. The common grassroots solution is to cut/grind off the secondary latch. Thus defeating the safety system intent. One can only hope they are not behind a moving vehicle with such a modification when the spare tire drops. GMC customer service, while polite, informed that they could not reimburse the cost of the hoist replacement because there was not a service bulletin covering the problem. Yes, the vehicle is long out of warranty, but this is a serious customer safety issue. From the forums and blogs, it is obvious that this is a pervasive problem, and the fix might be more dangerous than the initial issue.

9 Structure problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 03/09/2009

While driving @ 35 mph I noticed a very loud rattle and heard a noise looking in my rearview mirror a saw the whole plastic top that fits over the hatch back and houses the third brake light, fly off into the air and land in the other lane of traffic. It ripped the brake light wire right out. Luckily no one was coming around the turn at the time. Had to stop traffic to get it out of the road. This is a busy side road that comes to a stop light.

10 Structure problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/01/2008

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy, that is rusting badly. Recently this caused the transmission cooler to fail. Also the rear brake shoe backing plates, the spare tire carrier, the tail gate, along with other parts. GMC has recognized the fuel filler neck corrosion, but not the entire vehicle.

11 Structure problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/20/2008

I have a 2005 Envoy that I purchased less than a year ago from a local Chevrolet dealership. On the day of the failure, I did not drive the vehicle to work. When I returned home, I found that the back trunk hatch had somehow opened on its own, causing it to separate from the glass. The trunk hatch was broken in such a manner that it could not have been brought on by another individual or object. After noticing this defect, I contacted the dealership. The automobile was taken to the dealership the next day where they filed a claim with the warranty company. However, the service technician decided that the struts were not the cause of the defect and worked properly and could not hypothesis on why this failure had occurred. He reported this to the warranty company who thus denied the claim because they do not cover the glass on the automobile. I was displeased with the outcome and contacted both the warranty company and the GMC headquarters myself, hoping that this initiative would resolve the situation. It is my belief that there is some type of defect that caused the hatch to open on its own. The company will only replace the struts and are requiring me to pay for the glass replacement and labor for something that I neither caused nor could have prevented.

12 Structure problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 04/18/2005

My son was killed in a rollover accident on 4/18/06. He was ejected through the driver's side door in which the top part of the door was pulled away from the roof of the car during the rollover. By looking at the tire tracks of the accident, he was just entering the on ramp of the road and the tracks show no skid marks, swerving, etc, just a straight line into the ditch as if he didnt have control of the steering or brakes, possible stalling ?? both tires on the driver's side were flattened. Air bags were never deployed.

13 Structure problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

14 Structure problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 09/01/2004

Engine, check gadges light appears, SUV stalls, radio lights and steering lights keeps failing. I have taken my 04 Envoyxl into the dealership over 7 times for the same problem in which they have not yet been able to fix/resolve. My Envoyxl check engine and check gadges lights keep popping on and the vehicle continues to cut off/stall the dealership has not yet fixed the problem, I have taken the SUV in over 6 times for this problem. From 2004 until now 2007 the problem continues. The lights on the dash board keeps going out. They have replaced the lights at least 2 or 3 times but they keep going out. These lights are on the radio part, the buttons which operate the radio and switches the station. The panels seems to get very hot. The lights are currently out now after being replaced 3 times and now the vehicle is out of warranty. The paint on the SUV is very dull and the leather on the 2nd row seat is cracking, completely worn and very cheap. I complained to the dealership 1 year after I purchased the vehicle that the leather is worn out too fast, nothing was done about the 2nd row leather seats. The paint on the exterior is dull and spotty, I complained to the dealership before the 36,000 mile warranty expired and nothing was done about the paint either. This SUV is a lemon, it continues to cut off although many attempts has been made to repair the problem, I think they should buy this vehicle back since it can't be fixed. There is a defect in the electrical system since these lights on the instrument panel continues to wear out very fast and the radio had to be replaced already but the lights continues to blow out on the instrument panel and the steering wheel which also controls the radio and other components.

20 Structure problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/05/2001

While driving at 30mph headwind and topping out a large hill, front end lifts and swerves due to a large air pocket formed by the front of the hood, the top of the radiator and grill 'fins' or 'bars', the pocket is five inches deep, 4 inches high and 4 feet wide. Driver filled the pocket with nylon foam cut to fit and glued into place. The pocket caused the vehicle to lose traction for the front (steering) wheels and pushed the front end by wind gusts to an excessive and dangerous amount.
