GMC Jimmy owners have reported 20 problems related to engine belts and pulleys (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I bought a 2000 Jimmy from oak motors. I have had it for 5 months. In the last 5 months I have replaced the alternator, 3 pulleys, serpentine belt. The brakes are going out, power steering is going out, engine is tapping. I took it back after having it for 10 days because the service engine light came on. They wanted 175. 00 to look at it. I was told at the time of purchase that I had to purchase the warranty for 995. 00, I thought this was to cover any problem with the vehicle. It doesn't. They now want 540. 00 to fix it. Please help.

There was a recall of 96 GMC Jimmy's for independent front control arm upper: ball joints. We were advised that ours was not included in the recall. We experienced this problem at 53918 miles on Jan. 8 2002. The lower ball joints were replaced along with 2 front tires that were worn and very dangerous because of the ball joint problem. Also replaced were: the belt tensioner, oil cooler lines, water and belt - at 54,000 miles. We received a 168. 98 reimbursement from pontiac GMC as a "goodwill adjustment"(half of the ball joint replacement charge). They never acknowledge that this vehicle should have been included in the recall. Please include this complaint on this vehicle for problems which should have been included in a recall. Documentation of repairs available if needed. Thank you. *dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut-over to artemis**761991.

Pulley mount broke completely off and caused engine failure. Dealer notified and made repairs. The cast aluminium arm and pulley assembly breaking caused power steering and water pump falures.
The serpentine belt tensioner is an item requiring no maintenance. When it fails the vehicle is completely disabled. The transmissin cooling line failed where it connects to the transmission. This connection point is directly above the exhaust system so when it fails transmission oil is spewed all over the hot exhaust pipes/catalytic converter.
