Tl- the contact owns a 2000 GMC Jimmy. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and attempting to complete a turn and utilizing the turning signals, the contact would hear an abnormal clicking noise after the turn would be completed; as thought the turning signal was still engaged. The contact stated that he was an independent mechanic, and diagnosed that the vehicles multi function switch had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 08v231000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Wh.

The head lights keep shutting off as you are driving at night time then it will switch over to the day time running lights, this occurs every time you drive at nighttime with the lights on, we do not know what to do to fix this problem so we have not brought it in.

On 5/24/05 caller was driving at 40 mph on level ground on the highway and the spare tire fell out from underneath the vehicle. The cable that holds the spare onto the vehicle broke and allowed spare to break away and fell onto the highway. The windshield wipers have caused many problems in the past as well. The wipers would start and stop unannounced and had to be repaired and the blinkers would come on and go off on their own. The consumer believed there was a general problem with the electrical system. The car was regularly maintained. Each time the consumer filled the vehicle with gas, the inside of the vehicle would smell like gas and for a couple of days, the gas gauge did not work.
My 1997 GMC Jimmy is on its third multifunction switch. I replaced it once in November 2001, and again last week. My Jimmy only has 54,000 miles on it.
Upper & lower ball joint snapped while driving had to replace both along with idler arm pitman arm & tie rod ends , had received notice about possible failure on these when I called GMC they reported my car was not included in this possible recall. Cost of 1500. 00 also fuel pump failed cost of 700. 00 now driver side door is defected will not close , probems with electrical system locks ,windows, lights interior & exterior,wipers will only work occasionally, fuel gauge sticks.
Abs light keeps coming on, and has already been replaced once. Dealer cant find cause. Driver window would not roll up all the way while driving due to it was misaligned. Underhood light bulb broken, dealer replaced bulb. Air bag light illuminates intermittently.
There are no safety security devices to let consumer know if interior doors are open. However, there is a warning light if hatchback is opened. She said that the back passenger side door was open, and she didn't know.
Without warning multi-function switch has been replaced 3 times. Vehicle was unable to use communication components.
