GMC Jimmy owners have reported 8 problems related to fuel delivery (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The gas gauge does not work once the amount of gas is below half a tank. I have a GMC 2000 model. There are many complaints about this on the internet, yet no recall. The gas needle either sticks, bounces around or shows a full tank when empty. I never know how much gas I have or if I will end up stranded on the road at night. I guess if someone has a deadly accident due to their vehicle cutting off due to an empty fuel tank with a gauge reading full in high speed traffic, someone will look at this widespread problem then. I hope that I am not that person.

Fuel gauge would read full or half full even though tank would be empty. I set my trip mileage for more than a year and would put more gas in about every 300 miles. Dealer charged me $400 to remove the tank and replace a sensor that sits on top of the tank. Had vapor lock problems a few days after that.

I purchased a 1999 GMC Jimmy for my daughter. All through the warranty period, there have been problems that still have not been fixed. The brakes have never worked properly, parts inside the vehicle have fallen off, the antenna has fallen off,the electrical system (heating and cooling) has not worked properly, the outside mirrors and windows have not worked properly, the electrical system has buzzed when the radio is on, there has always been a banging noise underneath the vehicle. The left front hub assembly was replaced-didn't correct the probelm-had it replaced again 2 weeks ago-same condition still exists. They finally found the lower and upper ball joints on the passenger side were coming apart-replaced them-but noise (loud sometimes) is still there. Have been taking this vehicle in for repairs since I bought it-have been without the vehicle over 30 days in the warranty perioid. Now-after breaking down twice again in the last 2 months (a condition I've been trying to have them fix since 11/01) due to no power when I press on the gas-it's going in again. It is 2 hours one-way to the dealer (silviera, healdsburg, CA) for me. I believe they have been trying-but I think this vehicle is really now, and has always been a lemon. The vehicle has only 50,000 miles on it, and it is not dependable (never has been). After all these times in for service-taking a day off work every time to get it to them, I've had it. My daughter (college student) who I bought the vehicle for (I wanted her to have something reliable for college), now uses my car-so she won't get stuck all the time. I am ready to put the lemon law into effect with this vehicle.

Negeligence during GMC factory authorized warranty repairs caused several parts not to be replaced. Absence of parts caused severing of fuel lines. Atomized fuel sprayed across 2/3 of undercarriage & within 6 inches to 1 foot of catalytic converter.

Fuel smell is being released into cab of vehicle. Consumer was told by dealership vehicle was not a part of any recall. Consumer replaced fuel line at his expense.
During a repair of a main seal leak, mechanic removed the transfer case and did not put all the parts back together, a short while later, consumer noticed a strong fuel smell and after examination found that an unsecured fuel line had vibrated against the protruding edge of a body support brace causing it to sever and leak, dealer found 2 support brackets missing and 2 large steel rods missing that are designed to assist in preventing the transfer from cracking during extreme 4-wheel conditions, if mechanic would have put all parts together this incident would not have occurred, consumer is requesting reimbursement for rental car costs and costs of repairs. Vehicle also experienced a power steering leak.
Fuel pressure line clip broke twice, causing gas leak.
