5 Fuel Pump problem of the 1997 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 11/15/2004

Transmission failure / replaced transmission - upper & lower ball joint failure / replaced upper & lower ball joints - rear window wiper failure / inoperable at this point - extremely expensive replacements with no old parts available at this point. Events leading up to failure I can only attribute to severely poor manufacturing of products, there was no operating misuse or abuse. Also other parts that have failed and have since been replaced are the: alternator, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and cooling system failures.

10 Fuel Pump problem of the 1997 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 11/22/2002

Fuel pump on 97 GMC replaced at cost of over $600. This is second fuel pump for GMC Jimmy that I replaced. . . First at crawford GMC in el paso, TX at cost of over $400 back in 1997. The design flaw of this fuel pump is that it is located inside the fuel tank and the gas acts as a "cooling" fluid for the pump. . . GMC nor chevy ever mention that fuel tanks must be maintained at a minimum of 1/4 tank of gas or the pump will over heat & eventually fail. . . This item should be a recalled for poor design, faulty engineering, and potential for "over-heating" inside fuel tank! I can be reached anytime to clarify this matter at 915-593-5144. . . Cpt burgess.

13 Fuel Pump problem of the 1997 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 02/14/2002

Please be sure and cross-reference GMC Jimmy with chevy blazer!! this is the 4th time the fuel pump has failed. I've had related trouble with the fuel gauge and system with no further info from the dealer. The last time it occured, I was driving when the engine failed. Good thing it was a side street and not the highway. This time, it was stopped and failed to start again. This situation is not only ridiculous but also dangerous.

15 Fuel Pump problem of the 1999 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 11/11/2001

I purchased a 1999 GMC Jimmy for my daughter. All through the warranty period, there have been problems that still have not been fixed. The brakes have never worked properly, parts inside the vehicle have fallen off, the antenna has fallen off,the electrical system (heating and cooling) has not worked properly, the outside mirrors and windows have not worked properly, the electrical system has buzzed when the radio is on, there has always been a banging noise underneath the vehicle. The left front hub assembly was replaced-didn't correct the probelm-had it replaced again 2 weeks ago-same condition still exists. They finally found the lower and upper ball joints on the passenger side were coming apart-replaced them-but noise (loud sometimes) is still there. Have been taking this vehicle in for repairs since I bought it-have been without the vehicle over 30 days in the warranty perioid. Now-after breaking down twice again in the last 2 months (a condition I've been trying to have them fix since 11/01) due to no power when I press on the gas-it's going in again. It is 2 hours one-way to the dealer (silviera, healdsburg, CA) for me. I believe they have been trying-but I think this vehicle is really now, and has always been a lemon. The vehicle has only 50,000 miles on it, and it is not dependable (never has been). After all these times in for service-taking a day off work every time to get it to them, I've had it. My daughter (college student) who I bought the vehicle for (I wanted her to have something reliable for college), now uses my car-so she won't get stuck all the time. I am ready to put the lemon law into effect with this vehicle.

Fuel pump was replaced by dealer on oct. 26, 1996. Since then, the gas leaks out when filling up tank. Told by dealer that this was under recall and to bring vehicle in for repairs. Fuel pump replaced under recall, service engine light illuminated after repairs, consumer took vehicle back , dealer stated problem was a loose gas cap, again the service engine soon light illuminated again, took back to dealer who stated the filler tube was split, repairs were made, about 2 weeks later the filler tube had split again causing gasolone to leak, dealer made repair again, that same day it leaked again and this time dealer stated that two sensor tubes were leaking, consumer is requesting a new vehicle.
