Failure Date: 10/01/2009

2001 GMC envoy - gas tank neck leaking at grommet. Gm does not offer a fix. The cost of replacing tank with labor is an absurd $600-$800 dollars. This should be cause for recall of all similar models.

2 Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 06/20/2008

I continue to have constant problems with my 2000 GMC Jimmy. First thing that happened was the gas gauge just started messing up. Giving false reading. I ran out of fuel two times because the gas gauge showed I had half of tank of gas and apparently it was empty. Leaving me sitting on the side of the road way out in the country. The second time this happened it cost me my current job. My employer did not believe that my gas gage would give such false readings!.

3 Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

Was driving down highway all of a sudden ran out of gas, car behind me almost hit me because I slowed all of a sudden, gas gauge showed I had half tank, gas gauge bounces back and forth, it was a bad fuel sensor, I feel it is a safety issue because consumer is not aware how much gas they have and could cause an accident if they run out all of sudden.

4 Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 04/08/2003

I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy with 49500 miles. My gas gauge started to malfunction, and was displaying inaccurate readings. I was quite concerned since this was a fuel related problem. It turns out an electrical component in the fuel sending unit gm part number 25314231 had failed. From what I was told by the gm dealer, this component is submerged in the gas tank of the vehicle. I am reporting this to you for investigation as a possible safety related issue.

5 Tank Assembly problem of the 1999 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 07/16/2002

On July 16th at approximately 3pm we were driving on the pensacola bridge and I ran over something as I had no choice but too. I had 2 friends and there 6month old daughter and my 3 yr old daughter in the vehicle. Not thinking anything was wrong I continued to the airport stayed about and hr with my friends then my daughter and I headed back to niceville. When we arrived at home my husband had to leave for softball so we ran in the house for a few and then left again in the same vehicle. After softball we stopped at the store then proceeded home. Later that night at about 11pm I got up for a glass of water as I opened the bedroom door I could smell gas strongly. I walked through the house and opened the garage door where it was heavily saturated with the smell of gas. I went to get my husband who thought I was crazy after some prodding he went and checked and that was when we discovered the gas tank on our 1999 GMC Jimmy was leaking. The next morning he had to be at work at 530 and had no choice but to take the vehicle. When he got home at 6pm wed night we called the dealer we bought it from and they told us to call the service center in ft walton so we did but noone answered. Thurs morning July 18 th I called the preston hood service dept . The vehicle was towed to the service center and I called them to see what the deal ws they said you have a gas leak your gas tank was sliced open by whatever you drove over. I callled general motors to say hey this should not have happend that easy why is there no metal plate covering the gas tank. It should have done damage to my vehicle before it ever got to my gas tank and he was no help he told me if I had not drove over it would not have happend. No kidding. I was trying to tell him it should not have happened that easy and he said you don't even know for sure what you drove over wel l plenty of other cars drove over it too and I am sure it did not split open there gas tank. I wrote them an email and have not heard from . *a.

6 Tank Assembly problem of the 1997 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 05/09/2002

We, as the purchasers, did not know that the part was defective until we went to put gas and were stranded with a dry tank and the fuel guage reading half full. The estimated cost for repair is $1,000. The defect was present at the moment we drove the vehicle off the dealership lot. I have since discovered many other complaints concerning this compenet and its tendancy to easily fail. I feel this is dangerous beacuse if I run out of gas, through no fault of my own, someone could hit my vehicle causing injury to both parties, one of which would be my two year old son. I have had this car for 5 days and it has not worked properly for all 5 days!.

7 Tank Assembly problem of the 1997 GMC Jimmy

Failure Date: 12/11/2000

This vehicle has been a nightmare. . . Unfortunately it was a spur of the moment purchase. Although used, with only 39,000 miles, I thought I would be ok since it had an extended warranty till 72,000. I have replaced both upper and lower ball joints, idler arm, alternator, belt tensioner, ignition switch, 4wd sensors, gas gauge sensor, left rear axle shaft and both rear axle bearings. At least these were all covered under the warranty, but not the rental cars for all the time the truck spent in the shop. Now the vehicle has 90,000 miles and the dealership is telling me that the recall for the ball joints does not pertain to my truck (the VIN # is not included), the transmission dipstick is rusted (I've seen several complaints but no recall), my accelerator pedal sticks severely (also numerous complaints), and I've already replaced (out of pocket cost of $1700) a complete rear end. I owe more than this vehicle is worth. . . But will need to get rid of it soon because I do not feel safe driving my son around in it. Many of these problems could have caused a serious accident. . .

14 Tank Assembly problem of the 1999 GMC Jimmy

The fuel tank was replaced after we complained a second time about the inability to fill the tank to capacity without smelling fumes in the garage (oversized 2 car garage with 12 foot ceilings). After the fuel tank was replaced, we experienced no further fumes, but we would like to keep this car for the use of a new driver and are uncertain whether (1) the repair has been made well; (2) there are other Jimmy suvs with a similar problem. Our belief is that a repaired car is often safer than one that has not been repaired.
