Brake Electric Antilock problems of the 1998 GMC Sierra

1999 GMC Sierra. Called GMC, and they told the consumer that the truck was made in canada, and the consumer would have to go to canada to have the truck fixed because the recall was issued for canada. Was not aware that the vehicle was made for canada. The consumer would like to have the vehicle fixed in the united states. Found out about the recall from the newspaper. The consumer felt that if there had been a recall on vehicle he should have received a letter. Ithe consumer bought the vehicle through a GMC dealer in the united states. Should have been told from the GMC dealer that vehicle was imported from canada. The consumer just wanted brakes fixed and the recall completed.

During low speed breaking my antilock brakes kick in causing the my truck not to stop when intended.

Anti-lock brakes pre-mature activation--1998 GMC Sierra failed at 45000 miles removed fuse from panel to DE-activate anti-lock system as the system is an unsafe condition on the truck with an inability to stop properly.

Consumer states: have problem with abs system. Had front brakes replaced twice by gm. When got vehicle back drove it home, and took it right back. The brake pedal felt low, and dealer said it was normal. When ycoming to a stop abs system kicked in, got worse and worse. Coming to a normal intersection abs would kick in, took vehicle back dealer, kept vehicle and dealer said it was known for having low brake pressure. Took back again, replaced left and right side abs sensor. Still haing same problem.

I have had a anti-locking brake problem for the last 12 months. I have to have one side repaired already. I am going to have the other side fixed shortly. I read a aricle in the local paper that this was a gm problem. I contacted the service center at the dealership that I bought the truck. They told me to call gm customer support that they could not fix this problem without gm approval. I called gm and was told after reviewing my situation that the truck was to old and had to many miles. This is a 1998 GMC Sierra pickup with 93,000 miles. It had 78,000 miles at the time this was discovered. I would like to have this paid for by gm and reimbursed for the repair I paid for already.

When the consumer applied the brakes, the pedal went to the floor which resulted in extended stopping. The dealer was notified. Please provide further information.

Abs will not engage at low speeds on slippery surfaces.

Consumer states vehicle's abs pulsates and there is an extended stopping distance, especially in cold or damp weather.

When consumer used brakes and was going at least 30-40 mph and ran over a seem/pothole, or manhole the abs brakes completely shut off. Took the vehicle to a GMC dealer, and was told they couldn't find anything wrong.

The contact states there is a NHTSA recall campaign 05v379000 concerning the anti lock brakes. This vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to VIN. The contact repaired the vehicle at her own expense. The abs engaged at low speeds which resulted in a rear end collision. There was only minor damage sustained by both vehicles. A police report was taken at the scene.

Anit lock brakes grab, and sometimes they don't work. This could cause an accident because brakes don't hold when applied. Contacted dealer, connot find cause of problem.

Front brakes heated up, melted wheel weights off and burned abs wires. Truck would not stop. Was there a recall on brakes on this truck. Please let me know and is there anything we could do to keep this from happening again. Thanks.

Ongoing / intermittent problem with abs system. Rear wheels permaturely lock up, causing extended stopping distance. Dealer notified, but unable to correct this problem. Seeking help from NHTSA tin this matter.

While driving on a dry pavement at approximately 30-40 mph, and when applying the brakes, they went to the floor and vehicle did not stop. Consumer hit another vehicle, and the other driver was injured. Dealer cannot duplicate the problem.

While applying brakes pedal felt soft and traveled to the floor, causing extended stopping distance which could have resulted in a crash. Dealer could not determine the cause of the problem. Dealer said it was characteristic of vehicle.

At approximately 25mph in town with traffic lights and stop signs, brakes began to grab. Consumer took vehicle to ideal Buick of frederick maryland. I was driving on a dirt road ( luckily) the ground was wet and it had been raining, another vehicle appeared and I applied the brakes. There were no brakes. I kept trying but nothing happened until a few moments later. To avoid the other person I turned the truck and the rear end hit a tree. I paid for the repairs myself. There was a recall on the braking systems of my truck in that time period, but GMC said my truck was not included. ( the same exact problem was occurring in the recalled vehicles. ) this is not the first time a recall has excluded us. Both of our vehicles have had problems identical to defects on recalled autos, but for some reason they will not check our vehicles. I believe the problems are the same, but due to financial implications the manufacturer is trying to limit the known autos as much as possible.

When applying the abs brakes on wet pavement the rear brakes locks up, causing extended stopping distance, cause unknown.

While driving under wet conditions only, when applying the back brakes, they react as if they are going to lock up. But the anti-lock sytem reacts, and prevents lockage. Also, causes the back brakes to go out. Dealer has been contaced. Vehicle has been to the dealer three times.
