Nine problems related to accelerator stuck have been reported for the 1999 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Accelerator pedal sticking when attempting to accelerate, the gas pedal sticks requiring more than average force to engage. This becomes a dangerous situation in parking lots or close quarters, such as in traffic as it may lead to a collision with nearby vehicles or woes yet, a nearby pedestrian. This condition started slowly and gradually became worse until it happens at almost every initial accelerate from start up.
The accelerator pedal had become stuck. The consumer had to pump the pedal in order for it to release, which then caused the vehicle to surge forward.
Accelerator pedal sticks after coming to a stop. Consumer will then apply more pressure to pedal and vehicle will surge forward. Consumer found a TSB stating that throttle body should be replaced.
Accelerator pedal sticks at idle takes great pressure to move. When it breaks free pedal goes full travel (to floor) idle to full throttle immeadiately. Very rare occurance starting 2 years ago, beginning to be very frequent when engine is cold and starting to occur even when engine is warm. Very dangerous, as pedestrians and other vehicles are at great risk of collision as vehicle accellerates rapidly. Please look at this as it appears to be a very common occurance from the auto forums I have looked at. Vr/ lcdr robert c buzzell, us navy. Dt.
Accelerator pedal will stick when consumer takes foot off pedal, vehicle will keep going until consumer applies brakes. Vehicle will accelerate during this time.
While applying the accelerator pedal the pedal stuck, and vehicle failed to accelerate. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the accelerator pedal needed to be oiled. . This was the same excuse given by nultiple dealerships and consumer's extended warranty company. Consumer claimed had many cars and never was there a need to oil the accelerator.
Accelerator pedal stickes in the closed position (foot off of the pedal) this was first noted around 20,000 to 24,000 miles. Dealer cleaned throttle body (around 28,000 to 30,000 miles) which corrected the problem for about 6 months. The accelerator pedal sticks about 80 to 90% of the time. The concern I have is that if I am backing up to a trailer for hook-up or backing out of a parking space, that in my efforts to release the pedal, the vehicle could lurch, resulting in property damage or bodily injury.
When vehicle is put into gear to start accelerator pedal sticks. Dealer diagnosed probelm as carbon build up. The consumer stated that the problem was not only dangerous it would get worse with time and wants the dealer to fix it as soon as possible. .
While in motion, the accelerator starts to stick. Consumer has to press hard on the gas pedal to release it, causing the vehicle to lunge forward.
