Three problems related to brake abs warning light have been reported for the 2001 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The antilock brakes engaged at 10 mph while driving on dry road conditions. The problem was repaired on October 14, 2004. The problem was due to internal hub failure in which both hubs were replaced. The brakes never failed at high speeds. The abs light stayed on.
The contact received a recall 05v379000 concerning abs brakes. Had previously the repair work done. When she contacted general motors, they told her they would reimburse her for the repair work, but she would have to pay for half of the remaining repair work. . Since repairs the abs light has been on and it feels as though the brakes do not work. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership , and they found the electronic control module needed to be replaced. The abs remained lit after the repairs were made. Updated 11/29/05.
Dt : the contact stated on October 1, 2004 the abs light was came on and stayed on intermittently. Contact has to increase stopping distance in order to get the vehicle to stop. The abs system will activated when coming to a stop. Contact stated she has taken the vehicle to the local dealers, and they said the abs module needed to be replaced. Also, the contact states that the abs system did not work at all now. The abs brakes experienced the same problem mentioned in the recall. However, when contacting the dealer they claimed that replacing the abs module was not part of the recall.
