Eight problems related to service brakes have been reported for the 2001 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I pulled into my driveway and aproched the garage, applied brakes and all they did was vibrate and make that pulse noise. No mater how hard I pushed the pedal, the truck would not stop and I went through the garage door and also knocked over my harley that was in the garage. I cant believe the amount of common storys about this brake issue. There should be a class action lawsuit.
The contact owns a 2001 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the brake pedal was entirely depressed and the vehicle rolled into an intersection. The contact stated that the emergency brake was applied in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 227,570.
Three weeks ago noticed low brake fluid. Filled reservor and didnt see and leaks. Yesterday I was in town shopping and when I came out of store and leaving brake peddle went to floor when I tried to stop had enough brake to stop before hitting car in front of me. Bought a quart of fluid and refilled tank and cautiously made it the 25 miles home after refilling twice. Looked under truck and saw leak above the fuel filter. The whole line under truck is terribly corroded and will need replacing. I live in hawaii and have had the truck for 5 years so no salt damage here.
Stepped on brakes approaching yellow light ,sailed right though light.
There is a current recall for an abs problem on my vehicle. I had this recall completed several years ago. Recently, this recalled part failed again. Gm denied my claim when I had this recall fixed for the second time. Gm claims that a recall is a one time deal. I find this hard to believe.
At low speed the abs malfunctions regularly.
: the contact stated while driving at any speed a noise was heard, upon inspection the contact discovered the vacuum plates of the rear brakes were rusted through. The braking ability has been affected by this problem. The dealer has been alerted.
Sirs/madam; since new the brakes have been spongy. They work but, I am always on alert. The abs has never worked properly. I have replaced the front rotors with grooved and relieved with drilled holes. I have replaced the brake lining all around. With no difference. My pickup is equipped with rotors. I have complained to the dealership where I bought the pickup. Was told the is/was no warranty implied for braking systems. I have had the brake fluid flushed, still no difference. I am very easy on the braking system. I have an automatic trans and I use it like a standard. The only problem with the brakes that I could think of, might be the equalizer valve. I am only a novice with these brakes even though I am a mechanic by trade. Pertaining to the park brake. After a fashion and $246 spent at the dealership where they said I had left the park brake on, which I did not, I figured out what the problem was. The contact surface for the park brake lining was egg shaped. I had it machined, re-installed the components and my park brake was now functional. From new, I was unable to use the park brake because it never worked. Now the park brake holds my pickup. To wit a few years past there was law suit which I joined because of this very problem. I did receive compensation which made up for the cost at the dealership for "repairs". I understand this 12 years in the making but, the braking problem persists. Thank you for your time and working on keeping the highways as safe as possible.
