Transfer Case problems of the 2001 GMC Sierra

Three problems related to transfer case have been reported for the 2001 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Transfer Case problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2005

I own a 2001 GMC Sierra. I noticed that when I put my truck in 4 low on my 4x4 (manual shift),and I put the truck in reverse, you can feel the torque. When I go and put the truck into park it starts to grind while engaging in the park position. I brought it to a GMC dealership and they told me that it is normal for the transfer case to do this. If you ask me, if there is grinding noises on moving parts, something is not right or "normal".

2 Transfer Case problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2004

The consumer heard a clunking noise and a pulsating sensation in the steering column while making turns. The consumer was told that the wrong lubricant was used at the factory for the steering column shaft. The shaft was unable to be lubricated because the lubricant would not penetrate between the first and second sleeve. The intermediate steering shaft was replaced and the problem got worse. Four wheel drive warning light came on.

3 Transfer Case problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2003

The contact wa shaving problems with the push button module that engages the four wheel drive. The vehicle is getting stuck between two wheel and four wheel drive. He has talked to gm, and vehicle was not under a recall. This has been happening for three years. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealership for any repairs.
