2 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/17/2019

While operating vehicle on highway, I experience a shake/shudder when at speeds of 50 mph and higher. Vehicle was taken to dealer stated that the torque converter did shudder. Dealer changed transmission fluid and I was advised to drive for 200 miles to see if problem was corrected. Shudder still remains and now the vibration is constant at 70 mph. I called dealer again who said that it was probably a tire balance issue. I argued with them and stated I had no such issue before first bringing vehicle in. Dealer is setting up appointment for me to take in again. Vibrations have literally caused my 6 yr old daughter to vomit on 3 different occasions when in the vehicle. She has only been in vehicle 5 or 6 times. Vehicle feels unsafe at highway speeds. I have read many forums online stating this issue is on many vehicles gm has made. I am curious as to when gm will be mandated to take corrective action or buy the vehicles back from the owners.

3 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/09/2019

8 speed transmission is dangerous. Under light throttle, the vehicle will make a loud popping noise and lurch forwrward. Like stopping at a stop light, driving through a drive-thru. My truck will shake violentlly. . Dealer says its the transmission. When I try to enter my garage the truck will sort of jump forward. Delear says its torque converter sutter. Transmission has been worked on 3 time. It seems to get worse. Delears says the 8 speed transmission has many issues but gm does not have a fix. These 8 speed transmissions will end up killing folk. . This stuff happens on a daily basis.

4 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/22/2019

Vehicle is shuddering and shacking at speeds any where from 35 to 55 mph. I took it to the dealership and was told it's a known torque converter issue.

5 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2011 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/06/2017

In 2017 before my vehicle completing two years from the date of purchase at (70,000 km) the vehicle start shuddering when accelerating at low speed, when the service was due I took the vehicle to dealer for service & complained about the shuddering issue, after diagnosing the vehicle they said that they have to replace the torque converter, so they did replace the torque converter under warranty after fixing the torque converter issue I found trace of oil in front driver side & again when the service was due I complained about the leak, after diagnosing the found that the shock absorber is leaking, but they didn't replace it because it's not covered by the warranty as they said it's considered as consumable parts, very strange for a shock to leak in less than three years considering that I didn't even drive it in offf road, & this is not the first vehicle I own, all the vehicles I owned didn't leak for twenty years, sorry I know it's consumable part but I am not convinced by these words, there must be a problem with the shocks, anyway I decided to not replace it with the oem shocks I installed four new after market shock, no more problems with the shocks till today. In q4 last year 2019 the transmission shuddering issue started again & when I took the vehicle for service I raised a complain again for shuddering issue, this time they said we don't have to replace the torque converter we only have to flush the transmission fluid with new oil, I think it's mobil 1, & I have to pay for that because again consumables & not covered by the warranty, hey wait a minute yes I brought the vehicle for service plus the shuddering problem but the transmission fluid is not due yet for change if you have to flush the transmission to fix the problem then do it, but don't charge me because of the manufacturer fault.

6 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2013 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 04/04/2014

Initially I felt the problem as a slight "missing" in the engine under very light acceleration between 40 mph and 55mph and more pronounced under constant throttle going up grades on the highway at a speed of ~55 mph (1400-1500 rpm). The vehicle seemed to be "lugging", and then the rpm would increase by ~20% immediately for a short distance and then drop back (all at constant throttle) to 1400-1500 rpm. When driving on the highway in cruise control at 60 mph and going up a grade, the vehicle would show signs of "straining" and immediately increase in the rpm by about 20% with an attendant acceleration. Then the rpm would increase instantly by about 1000 rpm and the vehicle accelerates rapidly until I engage the brakes. My dealer observed the same characteristics and determined that it was a torque converter problem and on 07/25/2014 they installed a new torque converter, which proved to have no effect on the problem. I was informed by the service manager that GMC technical services informed him of a service bulletin (#pip4681d: random bump chuggle or fishbite sensation while cruising at approximately 1,300 rpm- October 31, 2013) that addressed the problem, and furthermore no further corrective action could be taken. On August 6,,2014 I was driving at constant speed of 60 mph on a major highway in "cruise control" and moderate traffic. While going up a long grade following another vehicle at a safe speed, my vehicle immediately jumped ~400 rpm and then abruptly changed to a lower gear and accelerated suddenly putting me at risk of colliding with the vehicle ahead of me. I quickly applied brakes and was able to avoid an accident. I immediately contacted GMC customer services who opened a case number (71-1344392355) and assigned a rep. To my case. I have subsequently been informed of the GMC company line--"the vehicle is operating as designed", "live with it"!!!.

7 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2000 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/13/1999

On 12/13/99 when slowing down to make a left turn, the tourque converter locked up and stalled the truck in middle of traffic while crossing the left lane. With difficulty, truned the wheel back to the right and pull off the road and shifted into park and restarted the truck. Luckly there was very little on coming traffic. On 2/11/00 while coming into a rolling right hand turn and going about 15 mph, I started to brake and the tourque converted again locked up and the engine stalled. Again with difficulty I was able to steer into the corner and make the corner. As the truck was free rolling it just started itself and it contiuned on, almost crached into two cars waiting at the stop sign. If my wife was driving there would have been a collision. In October when waiting for a traffic light to change, I accellerated and truck didn't move. I stepped on the brake shifted to park and then back to drive and it finally went into gear and moved. Have been back to the dealer twice with tourque converter concerns with no solutions. Gm has a transmission problem with there 4l60e transmissions. My 1998 GMC jimmy has been replaced at 19000 miles. Am very worried that this will happen at any time when not ready and an accedent will happen.
