GMC Sierra owners have reported 16 problems related to driveshaft (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Brake failure issue at low speed. This happened in two separate occurrences in parking lots. The brake pedal became very still and required grabbing the steering wheel and using it to pull myself down harder on the brake pedal to get the vehicle to stop. This resulted in greatly increased stopping distance. Fortunately no vehicles or people were in my path during these occurrences. Gm has since repaired my vehicle. I have since received a notice that they are repairing this issue only after the owner has a brake failure problem. This is extremely unsafe and is unacceptable. Owners need a solution and do not need to worry that this issue will arise again. If I hit a person or a vehicle, will gm pay for medical bills, vehicle repairs, legal fees? this truck as well as my last 2009 Chevrolet silverado had issues with the drive train that gm classified as normal. These trucks should not have drive shaft clunk when stopping at a traffic light. These vehicles have major mechanical concerns and their quality is trash!.

I have had my truck back the dealership 8 times for the same problem a vibration that you can feel in the seat steering wheel and gas pedal, they have had the factory engineers out three time and looked and worked on it, first time the engineer did a couple of things and said that it was up to factory specs and that was all he could do, I drove it home and before I was a block away I could tell that they did not fix it, when I got home I called the dealer back and told him so he called gm and the next week they sent out the same guy and this time he worked on 5 or 6 other things that he did not work on the first time after telling me they did all they could do the first time. Right there tells you they are lying if there was nothing they could do why come back and work on it again! but after he got done it was just like it was, I will try to list some of the stuff that they said they did, 1) rotated the tires 2) re-torque the wheels 3) balanced the tires 4) balanced the drive shaft 5) shimmed the rear end 6) checked the rear shocks 7) took off dealer installed mud flaps! 8) checked the exhaust system, I know but they did 9) road forced tested the tires twice and replaced two the second time and re-balanced the tires. And I'm sure I have not listed all they have tried, and still I have the same problem, third time the engineer came out he had the regional manager with him and this time they drove my truck and 2 others they had on the lot and said that they are similar to mine and they was not going to do any more to my truck that they had done all they could or would do but if I had any other problems to bring it back.

The pump driveshaft fractured, causing immediate loss of power steering and power brakes. While on the internet, owner discovered that the same year/make and model was being recalled for this defect. Owner later contacted the manufacturer. However this vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.

The power steering pump driveshaft broke, causing loss of steering & loss of power assisted brakes while towing a 2 horse trailer . On this size vehicle it is extremely difficult to steer or stop even at slow speed. This is the second time this has happened. The first was 09/10/2000, also pulling a two horse trailer. The service manager has told me they have had to replace several of these pumps because of the shaft breaking. The pump assembly # is e9050. If this were to happen at highway speed the results could be catastrophic. There is no indication or warning that this has happened untill you try to steer or stop. In an emergency that may be to late.

Automatic transmission makes gear noise in 1st and 4th gears. At purchase, vehicle had bad vibration problem. Dealer balanced wheels, which did not eliminate problem. Dealer tested tires and found one defective tire. . . The other three had to be "indexed" on the wheels. Driveshaft, suspension components/hardware and parts of the chassis have significant rust. (tiresize: p235/75r16).

Rear end vibrates due to misalignment of drive shaft to axle. Can't figure out why tranmission shifts hard. Tried replacing seat belt to fix tightening on bump.
Vehicle experiencing ongoing problem with front end and drivetrain vibration. First incident commenced at 15-35 mph, and second incident started at 50 mph or more. Dealer notified, and unable to correct the problem.
Would be driving and removing foot from gas pedal for a short while. Would then depress on gas pedal, and it made a loud metallic bang. Would sound like metal against metal. Took to dealer & mechanic lubricated driveshaft. Was working fine until leaving dealership. Have been in to dealer ten times for problem , and it's not resolved.
The rear rotors u-joint, carbon build up on throttle, replaced window motor uses 2 qts of oil every 400 to 500 miles , transmission uses 1 qt of oil every 20000 miles , air conditioner fan does not work on high I believe the throttle build up is a safety issue with the gas petal sticking. We have a lemon.
I found 29 pages of the same problems on net lemon law. No safety defect mentioned in summary.

Consumer states he has been to the dealerhsip on several occasions to complain about the transmission slipping, it was finally determined that the differential was put in wrong, and also the driveshaft was replaced to alleviate the vibration.
Throttle body sticks while driving. Had built up dirt and varnish. This caused vehicle to lunge forward when pressing on pedal. Drivetrain makes a clunking noise due to a lack of lubrication. This can cause teeth not to mesh correctly.
Driveshaft experiences thumping, the noise can be temporarily corrected when greasing the driveshaft yoke or spline, however the thumping does come back.
