GMC Sierra owners have reported 74 problems related to carrier/rack (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The truck was parked in my driveway when I got in and started the ignition. As soon as I did, the plastic dashboard cracked at the passenger side air bag. One week later, same situation, as I started the ignition, the dash cracked above the driver's side instrument panel. The cracks have continued to grow since initially appearing. I have a safety concern that the passenger air bag will not deploy as intended since the integrity of the dashboard has failed, and further concern that if the air bags do deploy, that the dash has become so brittle that there will be sharp chards of plastic in the passenger compartment as the dash is shattered into pieces from the impact of a crash.

Dashboard has cracked at the air bag. Lifters had to be replaced and now the camshaft is making noises. My traction control keeps shutting itself off and telling me to service it. Really bad wind noise coming from the passenger pillar.

This morning when I got in my truck, I noticed the dashboard by the passenger side airbag had cracked overnight. The weather hasn't been too hot or cold. Days in lower 90s and lows in upper 70s. I have read this is a common issue and I am afraid an airbag deployment will launch plastic pieces through the cabin.

My dash has large gaps/cracks in the dashboard. These range from the windshield all the way the front piece of trip. The dash is completely separated. Right in the center of the dash, around the airbags, and the other smaller parts or the dash are cracked too. I use a sun shield, so that is not the case. My daughter and I have both cut our hands on the dash. She was so surprised when she got in the truck that she asked if I had a wreck, and then ran her hand over the dash and cut her palm ad two fingers. I also cut my hand while trying to clean it so that stuff does not drop down the crack, such as dirt or dust, can't that start a fire with the wires and the heater down there? another thing is my vents don't wok like they are suppose to. The dash is so broken you can hear sounds of plastic vibrating and blowing in the vents. This directly effects the air flow to, it's like its not even connected. This all happened while the vehicle was in the garage stationary not running.
Dash is cracking around my passenger airbag. The crack is in front of the passenger airbag closer to the windshield. Vehicle only has 32,000 miles but is just out of the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty.
Cracked dashboard started at left corner of passenger side airbag then cracked above instrument panel afraid of flying debris and puncture of airbag. Constantly hear popping in the dash my p/u had approx 57000 mi at time of incident.
Vehicle has cracked dash in area of passenger air bag which could possibly cause shrapnel if airbags are deployed. This problem is common and there are thousands of people with this crack in the exact same area as mine. Contacted gm and they refuse to acknowledge a problem.
Dash board in cracking in two places over the speedometer and two places above the airbag. Cracks are continuing to appear on my dashboard which raises a concern of whether it would shatter if the airbag was to inflate during a accident.

Large and noticeable crack by my passenger side airbag on my dashboard. Could see this becoming shrapnel in the event of the airbag deploying. Gm will not issue a recall, nor take any sort of responsibility for their error.
Dash cracking by air bag.
When my 2011 GMC denali pickup was nearly 4 years old, the dash started cracking. The first crack was at the forward, left corner of the passenger air bag. Other cracks have since appeared on the driver's side, over the instrument cluster area. The cracks are continuing to grow. The plastic material of the dash is becoming more brittle with time. I am concerned that in the event the air bags deploy, the broken, brittle plastic dash parts around the airbag area could become dangerous projectiles.
Dashboard cracking in 2 places.
My dash is cracked around the airbag. Passenger side.
A crack has formed on the passenger side of the dash board near the air bag. This should not occur in a vehicle of this age. The vehicle has been to the dealer on numerous occasions without any mention or action to repair. I will be contacting them on Monday about covering the repair. I believe that this is a manufacturing design issue and the dash should be replaced under warranty. In the month of June 2015, I had to have my master cylinder and brake booster replaced. The first occurrence was in January 2015 of this year and I filled the master cylinder with fluid because of the brake warning system came on and the brake fluid in the master cylinder was at the minimum level. The dealership advised tat it could be the result of low brakes and to keep an eye on it and if it loose brake fluid to bring it in. When it occur again in June 2015, I took it into the dealer. It was determine that the brake master cylinder was leaking into the brake booster causing the warning likes on the dash to illuminate. At just over 40,000 miles, this should be cover by gm as a warranty item. I believe I am due a refund.
The dashboard has substantial cracking. The vehicle has been garage kept and has not had any chemicals used to clean the dashboard since it was purchased new. I'm worried about the effectiveness of the airbags if they were to come into contact with the sharp plastic edges of the cracks when they deploy. I'm also concerned about broken plastic pieces becoming airborne in the cab in the event of an accident, as I usually have my 3 young children in the back seat.

The dash panels on my 2011 GMC Sierra have spontaneously cracked in 6 places. 1 directly adjacent to the passenger airbag, another directly above the instrument panel and now in 4 places directly adjacent to the windshield. In any sort of impact I am fearing the airbags deploying will cause the dash to turn from hard plastic to hard moving pieces of plastic and cause additional injury above and beyond in a normal crash. Gm has refused to accept liability for this matter and calls it a cosmetic issue.
The dashboard is cracking across from the drivers side all the way to the passenger side air bag.
The dash is my truck has started to crack. From research on the internet I see this is a fairly common occurence. The dealer said it is not covered although I have an extended warranty. I am unsatisfied with gm and feel this crack dash could be a hazard if an accident were to occur. I would love a compromise from gm to at least offer to pay some of the cost of replacement, if not all of it.
I have owned my 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 for a few years now and am concerned about a safety issue with the vehicle. I noticed recently that the dash board is cracked in several places. I have never been involved in an accident and the vehicle is mostly garage kept. What concerns me is the cracking that is around the passenger side air bag and the possibility of the cracked pieces becoming projectiles if the airbag were to deploy. Once I found out that these cracks were present I did some research and found that this is a common trait among 2007-2013 gm trucks. I have seen pictures online on the gm truck forum and on a dedicated facebook page regarding many other owners who have vehicles with these cracks. Some of them even own vehicles in the 20,000 mile range. I wanted to bring this to your attention, and let you know that this is a common problem which could become a safety concern for many gm truck owners. To my knowledge there is no recall at this time.
The dash board on my 2010 GMC has cracked in several areas, including at the passenger airbag. I have strong concerns that the dash will break apart in an accident if the airbag were to deploy and possibly injure occupants in the cabin. The plastic is very brittle and could easily cut someone.
Noticed front dash was cracked in August 2014. Dealer will not repair. My wife had a 2007 tahoe which had the same problem in dash. My 2 son-in-law have the same problem now, one has a 2011 Sierra and the other has a 2010 silverado.
Crack in dashboard at upper left corner of passenger side airbag.
Dash is cracking in several places.
My dashboard is disintegrating. It started with a few hairline cracks, but now there are fist sized holes in my dashboard, and it is full of crasks. If I was in a car accident, I would have a face full of plastic shards.
The dashboard cracked midways and spread to the passenger side.

The safety during a collision or airbag deployment from sharp plastic exposed due to the cracks in the dash cutting the airbag or shards of plastic becoming projectiles potentially causing injury to occupants. I just had a phone conversation with someone over at gm and they are going to contact the dealership regarding this issue. I explained to them this is a major safety concern. The cracks in the dashboard around the passenger side airbag compartment could compromise the integrity and deployment of the airbag and potentiality, cause greater injury to the passenger(s) in the event of an accident. I also noted to gm that my case is not an isolated incident, and that there are numerous forums and this facebook page where gm vehicle owners have posted pictures of defective dashboards all with similarities, showing cracks in the same general areas, many of whom have been expressing safety concerns regarding this dashboard design flaw.
Crack dashboard there are so many of us facing the same problem dealers saying I have to pay which one cost to me around $800. 00 when same problem with hundreds or thousands have the same problem.
Dash cracked may cause hassarad due to air bag.
2010 GMC Sierra crew cab pick up truck. Dash panel cracked on upper right corner of passenger side air bag. Upper left corner cracked a couple of weeks later. GMC refuses to admit that there's a problem even though the cracked dash panels have been documented on several different message board and facebook groups.
Odd noise from vehicle. Stopped and noticed the center of the vehicle was low (box and back of cab were in contact at the top and separated by several inches at the bottom. Looked at frame and saw that right side of frame was rusted and is cracked almost all the way through, allowing frame to sag and presenting the danger of frame separation which would cause an accident.

Takata recall , dash is cracked in several places, concerned if airbags would deploy the broken dash could become flying projectiles. Major safery issue that g mc will not fix.
My truck has developed cracks on both sides of the dash. The one over the airbag is the one that has me concerned. If the airbag deploys it may then throw shrapnel into the face of my passenger possibly causing disfigurement and or death.
The entire dashboard has started cracking.
The front dash on our truck cracked. It is a very large crack and I am concerned about the safety of my family since the airbag is located inside the dash. There should be a recall since all that is offered is a discount on the exact same dash that will do the exact same thing. Please force GMC into a recall!.
