38 Equipment problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

On 12/12/14, my husband came home at approximately 2:00 pm and approximately an hour the garage was on fire and fire appears to have started in the truck. Gm came out and investigated with usaa but since there is nothing left of the truck the cause is undetermined. The entire house is a total loss. There is no roof left to truck. Gm trying to blame on a refridgerator cord or cord in workshop or sprinkling system.

39 Equipment problem of the 2010 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 11/06/2014

On 10/29/2014 I filed a complaint with odi number 10650997 about the outside door handles on my 2010 GMC Sierra since three of them had broken off since December 2013. Then on 11/6/2014, the passenger back door handle came loose & is pulling out of the door. This is the only one of the door handles that has not been previously replaced. All of the door handle failures have occured since decembe 2013. This presents a potential hazard. It has been my experience on the doord with broken handles that if the door handle comes complete off, it is hard to get the door to latch properly causing it to pop open which could easily happen while the vehicle is in motion putting anyone sitting by the door in harm's way. It is very disconcerting to me that all four door handles have now failed. I would definitly think this is a serious design flaw with these vehicles. Two of the handles were replaced under warranty however, the cost to replace the remaininw two is $200+ each. To date GMC is not willilg to address the issue.

41 Equipment problem of the 2010 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/25/2014

On or about that date, driving about 25 miles on rural roads at speeds from 45 to 55 mph, the dampness in the air caused condensation haze to form on the inside of the window. I turned on the defrosters which cleared off the drivers side window so I could see but the passengers side never cleared and I had 0 visibility to anything on the right hand side of the road or pulling out from driveways or roads on the right hand side. I took it to the dealer to get repaired to be told gm had a service bulletin on this that showed them how to reprogram the system to correct this issue. Also this vehicle is equipped with a rear camera system that is intermittent in its operation, sometimes blurred images or sometimes blank completely. The dealer disconnected and reconnected the camera systems thinking the connection might have an issue by being contaminated, oxidized, or loss. Not sure if related but the dealership has replaced my right rear speaker several times claiming that the speaker is seeing shorts and/or higher power or shorting internally. Being this is multiple times (3 or 4 times for this same repair) what other electrical system problems will I be seeing and will any of these lead to fires of additional system damage. Even with these know issues and service bulletins issued on the blower system as documented on the repair invoice, while knowing that loss of vision through the window is possible, gm has not initiate any campaign to proactively fix this. Only after the problem occurs and if the person is lucky to avoid accidents will they address this when you come into complain about, but by that time they hope it is out of warranty so they can charge you. After all it is unsafe to drive the vehicle without this system working properly so people will pay to get this fixed.

42 Equipment problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra

43 Equipment problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

My son and I were driving my GMC Sierra 2014 to his friends house before we crashed. My son was driving and has his learner's permit, however, had been driving for 4 months. At a fork in the road I told my son quickly to make a right rather than left and we crashed into an improperly grated wall of dirt causing the truck to go from 40 mph to 0 with my son having his seatbelt on, but I did not. Neither airbags deployed and both of us sustained serious injuries. My son broke his nose and I am suffering from a broken nose, concussion and a bursted vertebrae. Neither airbags deployed which could've made a huge difference on our injuries.

44 Equipment problem of the 2011 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 08/03/2014

The front bumpers plastic fog light assembly becomes lose and falls off. This can cause crash and accident because of falling off parts from car. This seems to be a known issue with the plastic bumper parts for the fog lights. The suggestion is to replace this with a chrome or metal bumper so that plastic peaces do not become warped and break off. This happens at the bolt points for the front bumper fog light holder entire plastic peace.

45 Equipment problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

The lower steering shaft is making a noise. Took to a repair center and show the shat needs to be lubed it makes a creaking noise when driving over humps and also the slip yoke in the rear of the truck when coming to a stopped position the drive haft moves and back and it feels as if you was being bumped from the rear of the vehicle. The two issues are found all over the web reporting these issues and GMC as not identified or resolved these issues especially on these models.

46 Equipment problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/13/2014

I was driving down route 24 in lewes, delaware approaching a yellow light when the car in front of me stopped. I applied the brakes and they completely failed despite putting the peddle all the way to the floor. I was forced to veer onto the shoulder then into a farmers field in order to slow the truck down enough to force it into park. Apparently the hydraulic brake lines on these trucks are completely exposed to the elements and have a history of failing. Once that happens, the rear calipers lock up and there are no brakes at all switch can cause a crash. There is no warning given until the hydraulic line snaps and the fluid is released. My truck has never been in an accident and has low mileage for its age. It has always been well maintained and is not a work truck but merely a personal vehicle. In addition, I am on my third transmission do to the poor selection gm made of putting the s-10 pick up transmission in a substantially heavier truck.

47 Equipment problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

Excessive corrosion on frame of vehicle. May not pass yearly safety inspection.

48 Equipment problem of the 2007 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/04/2014

When stop feel like somebody hit me from the back one guy told me that my transmission.

49 Equipment problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/19/2014

2005 GMC Sierra z71. I am the original owner. This vehicle has 18k miles, yes 18 thousand original miles. This truck does not get beat on at all, no off road etc, and it has been well taken care of since new. There is a rust issue with these trucks. On 5-19-2014, on my way to the car wash my brakes started to feel very soft and the truck was not stopping. I changed routes to my mechanics shop, and while en route lost the rear brakes. I thankfully arrived (driving very slowly) to the front of his shop. I got out and saw a puddle of brake fluid leaking out of the rear end brake lines rear lines were completely rusted. He inspected the vehicle, and as if this wasn't enough, informed that the transmission lines were also leaking (rusted). Mechanic added that I should be prepared for the fuel lines to rust through next. This line replacement job will cost me about 2k. Not to mention the issue with the lower rockers and cab corners rusting. That estimated is for another 2k. I purchased this truck to last me, and apparently gm does not build a quality product anymore. There a numerous complaints about this issue, and gm refuses to acknowledge the problem. Very unhappy!.

51 Equipment problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 03/15/2014

The lights on this vehicle are unsafe in that they only project for a short distance and don't allow any light to the sides on corners or on upslopes of highway dips.

52 Equipment problem of the 2011 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/21/2014

Three out of four tires had separation. The tires are goodyear wranglerlt265/ 60r20e1. Two tires were replaced on 2/21/2014 due to separation of left rear tire. We chose to replace both rear tires. On a recent vacation to florida from texas, the front left tire, same goodyear type tire, separated. Our spare replaced the front left tire. On the return trip from florida back to texas (same vacation), the front right tire began separating when we were on the east side of louisiana. We were unable to locate an open tire store, as it was a Sunday. So, we drove home slowly the remainder of the trip. After returning home, discount tires (where we purchased the two new rear tires in Feb. 2014) ordered us two new front tires. The tires were shipped from chicago, due to the unusual size of the tire (we were told). Is the goodyear wrangler tire a safety hazard, since three out of the four tires failed? was it the 'lot' that was bad? we were told by discount tires that there wasn't a recall on this tire.

53 Equipment problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

I purchased new in 2014 a GMC Sierra 4x4 I take very good care of my vehicles I park inside a heated garage an wash once sometimes twice a week, including undercarriage. In January while washing undercarriage I noticed the coating on the frame is completely coming off the frame with just the spray of garden hose. I notified the service department at upstate Chevrolet in attica at my last service March 16 2015. The dealership will also verify how well I maintain my vehicles. I am now waiting for a response! in the mean time I went on line to see if anyone else is having same problem and to no surprise alot of GMC truck owners are complaining of this existing problem as well. Please contact me. My family an I have been dedicated gm owners and I am asking if this falls under the lemon law. Thank you for your concern.

54 Equipment problem of the 2010 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

In December 2013 the passenger exterior door handle came off & a few days later exterior driver back door handle came off. The dealership did replace both handles under warranty. However, while we there another man came in with the same problem on his GMC Sierra. In October 2014, the exterior driver door handle came off. Dealer replacing but charging customer $200+. Service person indicated they have had numerous issues with the handles on GMC Sierras breaking, as recent as the last month or so. In internet search this seems to be a prevalent problem with the GMC Sierra. Other car dealers have told us that they have heard complaints on this also. Although it may not be a critical safety issue, when the driver door handle came off our vehicle, the door would not latch properly without some effort. This could cause an extreme issue if the door does not latch. If the driver or any passenger sitting by a door on which the handle broke does not get the door to latch properly it could easily fly open while the vehicle is moving and could be catastrophic.

55 Equipment problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/10/2013

Headlights are a safety issue with this truck. Can not see the sides of the road and the roadway is very dim. I have contacted gm many times with no answer to the problem. One time they said, turn on the fog lights when you are about to turn a corner.

56 Equipment problem of the 2005 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/04/2013

Speedodometer does not return to zero when you stop if itgoes down to40 and you drive off doing 40 it reads 80.

57 Equipment problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

Vehicle goes into reduced engine power mode at interstate speeds without warning and increases risk of being rear ended, does not have enough power to safely get the vehicle off the road when in the left lane with other cars behind. More instances of this same scenario over the past few months than I can count. Throttle body has been cleaned. There are too many internet forum posts detailing many different parts having been replaced by dealerships and other mechanics and the problem still existing to just start replacing parts because the costs too quickly is unsustainable.

58 Equipment problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

2012 GMC denali. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle steering problems. The consumer noticed a very bad problem with the steering whenever he slowed down to turn, he would loose control over the ability to turn. The wheel locked down when he applied the brake and tried to turn at the same time. He was not able to turn until he pressed on the accelerator or released the brake. The dealer said it was caused by the power booster taking all the power to the brakes and leaving very little to the steering. Also, there was a problem with the back-up screen. The picture was extremely dark, and it was hard to make out the images on the screen. The dealer tried to lighten the screen, but to no avail.

59 Equipment problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

When we took our new truck for a test drive we noticed a vibration. The dealership supposedly checked it out and took care of it. When took delivery of the truck and drove it home the vibration was better at a slower speed but increased as the speed increased. We returned the truck to the dealership and they checked it out and said that they balanced the tires and rotated the driveshaft 180 degrees. It seem to be a little better. Because we take this truck to florida for the winter and it is loaded my husband decided that he would put some weight in the back of it to see how it would affect it. The vibration was better at a slower speed and worse at a high speed on the highway. The truck has now been back at the dealership for a week and we have not heard anything in regards to it. They are supposed to be doing an electronic vibration analysis on it. My husband has researched this problem on the internet and there seems to be a lot of complaints about this problem. Hopefully people are registering them on your website.

60 Equipment problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

After exiting interstate lost steering and brakes briefly in parking lot. Pumped brake and both returned after a hissing sound. Recurred a few times in next 6 months or so. Then, in the fall of 2013, lost steering and brakes on I-49/us71b heading south from joplin, missouri. You could pump the brakes and briefly regain, but for the most part all steering and brakes were out. Took truck to GMC dealer where purchased new in bentonville. Dealer confirmed no steering and brakes and damaged bumper while vehicle in its possession by bumping into parking lot barrier. Dealer diagnosed power steering pump problem and indicated that brakes and power steering are tied to same pump/system. Dealer replaced pump but said that even though it was a two or three part system could only replace the pump. Truck continued to have problems and was taken back to dealer following similar episode where lost both steering and brakes. Dealer refused to do anything to replace the other components because could not replicate the problem. Dealer claimed no notice of any other complaints of this nature form gm or any other source. We pleaded with the dealer about it being a safety issue and asked that the dealer replace the other components it identified as possibly related. Dealer took no further action claiming without gm telling them to look further and pay for it they could do nothing else. Truck continues to have problems intermittently. It is nonsensical for a truck to have two significant safety systems tied together with no secondary support or fail safe system to guarantee that operator still have brakes and steering at all times. Truck also has rattles consistent with the service letters / issues noted on this website.

61 Equipment problem of the 1993 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/25/2013

I went out one morning and started my truck and heard a rattle noise coming from the engine. I got out and opened the hood. Almost instantaneously the engine backfired and the cooling fan blew apart and fragments of metal came through the plastic shroud and into my face and head causing serious and would have been fatal injury to myself. If it were not for the fast response of the paramedics who flew me to the hospital by chopper. I am now blind missing an eye and my face and head are scared along with possible brain damage. Please do whatever it takes to keep this tragic accident from happening to anyone else.

62 Equipment problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 04/11/2013

On the morning of April 11 we had a severe thunderstom at approx. 3:00am. Later in the morning at approximately 6:30am I found my 2008 Sierra truck running in my garage with the garage doors shut. The headlights were flashing and the garage was extremely hot due to the engine running. There was a lot of water condensation on the floor indicating that the engine had been running for quite some time. The temperature guage was at running temperature. My keys were in the ignition so I opened the garage to air out the carbon monoxide and took my wife's keys and tried to stop it remotely but it would not stop. A few minutes later I went outside and came in thru the garage door trying not to breath the fumes. By then the truck was not runnung. I found the check engine light on. When I touched the key in the ignition the check engine light went out. The seat presets were messed up and the clock was several hours off. There was absolutely no way the truck was remote started. Even if it was it should only run for 10 minutes. This was a very serious and dangerous situation! continuing on with a similar situation a year ago, there was a severe thunderstorm coming thru. Our neighbors had come to our house during the warning since we had a basement. We were all standing in the garage with the garage door open and our 2010 GMC yukon started up like someone turned on the ignition. There were no keys in the ignition. The electrical storm was on-going when this happened. We saw our neighbor leave in her yukon so we thoguht maybe she remote started hers so I followed up with her to see if she had remoted started her car and she had not. She tried to remote start her car and it did not affect ours whatsoever. It appears that both incidents seem to be storm related. It is a very serious and dangerous situation knowing this could happen while we were asleep or away for a few days.

63 Equipment problem of the 2008 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

The drivers side interior door handle will not open the drivers side door. The window has to be rolled down in order to open the door from the outside. . . . Based on the GMC forums I have read this happens to a lot of people. The replacement costs can run from $200-$800 due to plastic pieces and cables being used that melt and break easily. This is very dangerous because if someone were to ever get into an accident and they need to get out of the vehicle quickly they will not be able to open the driver side door if that is the only option to be able to get out. They will have to kick the window out in order to open the door with the outside handle. I am the original owner of the truck and am very disappointed this has appended at such a low mileage.

64 Equipment problem of the 2007 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

Heater motor continues to run after the switch is turned off, the blower only works randomly. I under stand there is a recall for this issue but my VIN is not included. This seems to be a problem in a number of different gm vichicles. There is a chance of electrical fire with the being able to run with the switch off also the report would not pull a list of parts nor would it permit me to type in the parts: heater motor blower resistor, and wiring connectors.

65 Equipment problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra

70 Equipment problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 09/21/2004

The heating and ac controls were replaced 2 times in 2007. And are still not working properly today I was driving home with the ac on because it's 99 dreges in los angeles county and like it has been doing for years it started blowing hot air on its own. I have see other gm vehicles with the same issue. So I believe gm is responsible for correcting this issue.
