I have a problem with the right side seatbelt on my 2001 GMC Sierra pickup for the third time since I bought the truck the seat belt stoped working it pulls tight in the seat making itunuseable without warning my wife was in southdakota with her daughter and it tightened up they had to finish the trip without it . I know there was a recall on thr 2000 trucks for seatbelts . My truck was made in mid 2000 and put into service in August 2000. Could I have gotten one of the old seatbelts . Now for the second time I have to pay for a new seat belt . The second time it happened was covered underwarrenty as it happened only six months after the first time now almost 2 years to the day it happened again. I am a firm believer in wearing belts so now for 2 weeks no one can ride in my truck. I still have not got the new belt.

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for voicing these concerns but I hope and can be enlightened about these problems. I am not sure of the exact mileage or dates of any of these incidents without further study. The seatbelts on this truck will lock up intermittently while driving down the street with no braking. The right windshield wiper has broken free from the mechanism twice. The daytime lighting does not work though the lamps and fuses are in working condtion. The power steering pump sheared a shaft in two and was replaced under warranty. The engine clatters and was fixed once by the dealer however the fix has never lasted more than half of an oil change(1,500 miles. ) the headlight and rotary dimmer switches and surrounding trim on the dash get extreemely hot to the point of burning. I know I have missed something, it's hard to believe that so many things have gone wrong with this truck.
The driver side seat belt works properly and restrains driver during quick stops. The passenger side seat belt catch mechanism has never restrained the passenger during quick stops and the passenger lunges foreward each and every time. Noticing this problem I intentionally attempted to make the seat belt catch by making numerous quick stops. The dealership told me that nothing was wrong because all the GMC trucks were like this on the passenger side and only restrained on impact. I was told that the reason for this was to make it easy to install a child car carrier. Does this sound reasonable to you. I thought seat belts should operate the same regardless of which side of the vehicle.

Driver's seatbelt system malfunctioned. Consumer needs to pull hard in order for the seatbelt to come out of the housing. It retracts "too hard," and not enough slack in the seatbelt system. Dealer said seatbelt system is used for child seat protection.
Seatbelt retractor gets jammed and will not move on the track . Dealer says vehicle needs a new belt.
Driver's and passenger's seat belts squeak when seat belts go in and out of the retractor. Also, seat belts are too sensitive. Consumer has to move very slowly to avoid seat belts locking in place.
The passenger side seat belt fails to retract back into it's holster. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the mechanic had to replace the entire retractor mechanism. The problem was caused by a failure in the system.
