The contact owned a 2017 GMC Sierra denali. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, he briefly fell asleep. As a result, the vehicle left the roadway and collided with the exit median, coming to a complete stop after careening into a side ditch. The air bags did not deploy, and the seat belt failed to properly retrain, resulting in head and neck injuries. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. The contact was transported to an area hospital by emt and treated for various lacerations to his head and arms and an unstable fracture of the c7 in his lower neck, later requiring surgery. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider due to a bent chassis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and they inspected the vehicle, concluding that the impact was not sufficient to trigger air bag deployment, estimating that the vehicle was traveling between 1 and 4 mph and that the air bags were functioning properly. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 32,000.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while driving at 42 mph, she was involved in a three car accident after a vehicle involved in another accident ricocheted and hit her vehicle. The driver airbag exploded but did not deploy. Black smoke was released from steering wheel and the airbag fell on the contact's left leg. The driver seat belt retractor fell apart during the accident which sliced the top part of the contact ear; in addition, the failure sent a part of the contact's earing into her ear canal. The driver of the vehicle that was originally hit in the accident died the next day in the hospital; another passenger in that same vehicle was critically injured. The contact was treated days later at a hospital for a severe burn to left leg due to the airbag. Her leg remained infected despite the treatment received at the hospital. The contact's ear was not treated. A police was filed. The contact's vehicle was initially towed to an independent mechanic and then to a friend's home. The contact's insurance had yet to make a decision on the repair for the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 21v245000(seat belts) and 17v437000(air bags, seat belts) which she linked to her failure. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 93,622.

1) rear driver side seatbelt would not retract when unbuckled. Seatbelt had to be manually fed back in so that the belt didn't dangle or get shut in the door. Repaired at dealership on June 18, 2020 at roughly 55-56,000 miles. 2) truck is currently shaking when driving and has tendencies to shake violently at times. I'm currently just shy of 59,000 miles on the truck and has been noticeable within the last 1,000 miles. Researching it appears it has a common name of "chevy shake. ".

Need to get driver's seat belt and passenger door lock fixed under warranty. A bad employee at the dealer in July 2010 committed identity theft and open accounts under a different name "frank" fankhauser. Dealer put me on a gm wide blacklist and so frustrating. Have reported to police, but just want to go to another GMC dealer to have fixed. Gm customer service has not helped and keeps calling the first dealer to request their permission and it has been denied. Dealer that committed id theft: ferguson GMC broken arrow, ok 74011 I really like the pickup, but unfair to hold up warranty/safety repairs because of the id theft.

When I bought my used 1998 GMC Sierra 4x4 k1500 truck in 2003 the front passenger seat belt would not work! I took it into gus paulos Chevrolet to have it repaired. They warrenty the defective seat belt since it would not pull out. Thats a 5 yrs old truck
so now in 2007 it goes out again, this time they are charging me for it? the service rep said "it only has a three year warrenty". I thought it's a saftey part/ saftey issue and they should flip the bill. What if it failes in a collision?
the part is on order so I should be getting the part next week. " I haven't needed it done till now since my daughter is old enough to sit upfront".

2003 GMC Sierra 2500hd crew cab cloth split bench: the shoulder harness seatbelts on all three passenger seats will lock up during normal cruise (no sudden stops or yanks on the belts), and will continue to get tighter and tighter until the occupant must unbuckle the seatbelt and let it completely retract before it can be re-buckled. This will occur on nearly every trip in the vehicle, and has occurred since it was new. This is more than an annoyance, it is a safety hazard since the passengers must unbuckle their seat belts in a moving vehicle. The dealer (jim waldron GMC, davison mi) claims it is simply a design flaw and they can do nothing to correct it. They say that "everyone" with a 2003 Sierra is complaining about it. This problem never occurs on the driver side seat belt. I am seriously concerned for the safety of my passengers in this vehicle that is designed to carry many passengers.
